Rio's Adult apprenticeship intake just ended. Look at the Major OEM's/Dealer (IE Westrac,Komatsu,Liebherr,Terex etc etc) you make less intially but will get better training than apprentices that work for miners/contractors and will be worth more $'s once your qualified and have a couple of years post trade under your belt

I worked for them for 5yrs. usual b/s you get from any big company but the training/opportunitiesare very good(or at least they where when I was there). They are part of the reason im working a 38hr week for a large miner in Assest Managment now.

Would be out of luck with Westrac. They just took in their apprentice intake for next year. Probs won't be hiring again until mid year.

If you know how to plug a laptop into a serial/usb port, then you're already qualified as a Westrac Mechanic. :)
Some of the dumbest fuckers I've ever come across, watch how quickly you're universely hated once you mention you did your time at Westrac or Komatsu :)

So true, and the caliber of apprentices they take in keeps getting worse and worse. I was pretty upset with the quality of my apprenticeship, its why I didnt leave straight away (worst mistake of my life), but at least I know I have brains so it didnt affect me as bad as it shows up on others. That was 3 years ago, these days....... you have summed it up quite well, if you can turn a laptop on and use ET they will give you trade papers lol
