View Full Version : EOI- Powerlines night run in next couple weeks
mr_mike
24-11-2011, 06:33 PM
Powerlines during the day is pretty tame and given the days are now warming up, who would be keen on a twilight/night run along the powerlines?
Would be a saturday evening starting about 6:30-7pm and would be safe to say finish about 11ish depending if there is any major dramas or not.
Must haves
Recovery points and own recovery gear, a snatch strap isnt expensive and every 4wd owner who plans to go offroad should own one.
Also good to have
UHF(either incar or hand held), Spotties, a good torch, tyre deflators and compressor.
You dont need some 6" lifted twin locked monster on 37's to get out there and have fun, a stock 4wd with H/T tyres will do fine so long as you dont expect it to perform like a 6' lifted twin locked monster on 37's.
Keen?
The details are
Date: Saturday 10th December
Time: Meet 6:30pm for 7pm leave
Location: Peak servo Sawyers Valley
Plan is to head straight down Cole Rd opposite the servo then head left along the powerlines track and do the track to Flynn Rd. Then left along flynn rd back to the main road. Its only a short section of the track but its the interesting part and being dark should be more challening.
Will be leaving the servo at 7pm sharp if you are running late just head down Cole rd towards the lines and shouldnt be to hard to catch up to us or can raise us on UHF CH32 and we will wait on the track for you.

Are you sure you havent made a mistake? Most people start from flynn and continue on till the end. Thats where most of the difficult parts are.
Unless you are trying to soften it up for the newer people??

not my idea, pretty common mod for most 4wders who do night runs. The fact i had some small spotlights sitting in my shed and having the night run planned ment i finally got off my arse and done it.
I have another 2 lights in the shed so i might end up hookin them up before the rear wheels if i get time.

NP for the recovery. Brendo's Gu 4by goes alright, was good to get out in it and do some testing. Hopefully he will make it along next time as he had to crew at the sedan muster last night so if he puts a dent in it, wont be my problem. Next for that build is Lightforce HID's there here and il fit them this week, lockers F+R and a biggertop mount intercooler plus more boost and retune diesel and the gas injection.
Apologies for not talking so much as i was well knackered when i got to peak, and the haul back to the sor ghetto was painfully hard to stay awake.
Hope you boys with the lux made it home safe
Should really pull my finger out and start my personal next build so i can go a bit harder and break some shit.
Hopefully will have a pic or two up later this arvo.

After last nights effort I would have thought a LED lightbar may be better? Only draw back with light bars is their cost (for a good unit with 10W LED's, not those cheap shit 3W China units).
Opinions?
mr_mike
11-12-2011, 11:56 AM
If you already have spotties then a HID conversion is cheap as chips and with the right temp bulbs in there they will produce same kinda light as a LED light bar. I got a 55w 6000k HID conversion for my Rallye 4000's for about $60.

Fair point. I'm looking at a set of IPF 900XS for around $375 plus $165 for a 100W HID conversion kit. The IPF's are the only lights that will fit the factory bar. I'd love a VisionX lighbar, but at $1100 the price is too exxy!
mr_mike
11-12-2011, 12:18 PM
the biggest advantage i can see with the light bars is the size of them, i can only just fit 2 4000's in my alloy bar and to have lights up on the roof is just cop bait.
100w HIDs will put out an insane amount of light!
Fozzy
11-12-2011, 12:27 PM
Becareful with the 100w hid kits.. They can be quite unreliable.
LED lightbars are worth the money. I have a 42" and its sweet. I dont even turn my HID spotties on
Butcher
11-12-2011, 12:51 PM
Where i struggled was not with the light output but with the light being directional, what i really needed was a hand held roo light to help spot the different lines +/- 45-90deg as in some places out there it was 50m+ wide in some places with heaps of lines.
