Not a bad event although i wish they started in the usual place for the drifting without eliminating cat corner. And the time attack guys should have got longer than 10 mins sessions i thought. Anyway heres a few pics i took throughout the day. Will have the complete gallery up on my site soon. Oh and sorry Franz i couldnt get a two wheeled shot for you. I did notice you kissing the curb on your cool down laps :)

Nice shot

I spoke to Fink after in the pits and he said it was good to run top section only .

awesome shots... saw the shutter speeds and fuck me.. i was stuggling on 1/200 hahaha

I also agree with taking out CAT corner. Takes out the drag race down the straight and makes the drifting that much closer. And closer = better

4-5 corners is all you need.

I'm not a drifting expert by any means and I know it was a bit unusual for the WA folks but I loved the section they ran.

+1 for taking out straight and CAT corner and should have done it a long time ago. The privateers could stick with the big hp sponsored drivers and were allowed to enter later into C-Red if they were the chase car to keep proximity up. It also kept spectators and trade stands together which made it seem like a larger even though it was a pretty sad turnout.

uhhh, I never came off! Only place you could say I was off was twice going around the wrong side of the kerb on the main straight before the actual pit entry and that was only because I didn't want to lose my carbon lip attempting to straddle the outside kerb.

Ps. widening the exit of the corner that way is not faster.

Long track favours horespower!

Evo - awesome in corners, ok on straights.
GTR - good in corners, awesome on straights!

Hey guys, did anyone manage to take any pics of the black ve commodore from the time attack sessions?

If so would I be able to have a look at them, I am trying to assess the cars cornering performance....

67's are bombed in what is essentially a 2 tonne street car!
R-comps or street tyres? Assuming R-comps as that is approaching some of the Evo/GTR times from the day :D

RoarPwr
22-11-2011, 12:22 PM
yeah was running bridgestone r-comps on the factory ve ss rims...
I think with wider wheels and rubber there is definitely more time in it, I have a few ideas for improvements, and as well as more practice...

Weight of the car is a huge factor...

Cheers... the commodore performed faultlessly all weekend...
full credit for that goes to Mitch and Deb from WA performance... The car cops a serious hiding all the time and i have never had any issues with it....
if only it wasn't so harsh on tyres...

Turbo2.6L
22-11-2011, 03:37 PM
Pull some weight out of it & your tyre wear will decrease significantly. Do you run same width front & rears?

RoarPwr
22-11-2011, 04:18 PM
yeah i ran standard ve ss 18 x 8 rims with 245 bridgestone re55's all round. I am currently looking for a set of staggered rims to suit the track better something like an 18 x 8.5 for the front and 18 x 9.5 or 10 for the rear.

Weight will def come out for the next time i get the car out on the track, eg i am currently looking for a pair of light weight race seats and the like.

The drawback is that the car itself is also driven around the streets a lot of the time whilst i am home from work.

Turbo2.6L
22-11-2011, 04:28 PM
The advantage of running the same width wheels is you can rotate tyres. Falcons suffer from being fat pingpingpingpings too, so chew out front left tyres at barbs very very quickly :(

Lightweight front seat, remove rear & passenger seats, lightweight wheels is a good start. Anything above & beyond will ruin the car as a daily/cruiser.

RoarPwr
22-11-2011, 04:32 PM

That was on the last session with the chequered flag already out so it doesn't count! But I do now have an ally bend on the way to replace that piece of shit, it has screwed me a few times now

on another note has anyone heard what the go was with that guys evo that popped a motor?

He was making me angry all weekend with his driving and then managed to park in the middle of the track... hmmmm

RoarPwr
22-11-2011, 05:02 PM
Yeah he was inexperienced and a little in the way, I think he was a bit devo once Sean from Allstar told him the motor was pretty much a dead duck... Would have liked to know what caused the issue though, i know he had issues with the oil breathing system,
he had pissed oil out of the catch can a number of times.

Skipmaster J
22-11-2011, 07:59 PM
He said the tune never felt right on high boost (high being 20psi, low 14psi).
It's a fully built motor so should be capable of 30psi with the right fuel; I was running 26psi myself on the stock motor...

Brockas
22-11-2011, 10:02 PM
Fk! 26psi on a standard motor?? That's epic. What's the compression ratio of a 4G63?

I'm only running 26psi on mine!

FranZ
22-11-2011, 10:27 PM
26psi = 1.7bar.

Evo 8 MR and Evo 9's run 20psi (1.4bar) stock. I'm running 23psi (1.6bar)

Skipmaster J
22-11-2011, 10:33 PM
Yep, 1.8 bars, BP ultimate, completely stock engine except cams (stock valvetrain, studs, etc)
8.8:1 compression

I think it was the red evo that broke. Got towed in off the track on the Saturday morning.

lathiat
23-11-2011, 02:13 PM
which evo broke?

Was an asian-ish-guy (I am the worst at cultures/races.. sorry) with a Red 7-9 evo with NSW plates. Car stopped on the back of long track coming out of the big U.

He seemed a bit green as others have expressed but you know, everyones green at some point in time... no point being macho about it.. from talking to him he bought the car with some variety of built motor and turbo setup. He bought a new manifold and turbo and put it on which he did himself and had the tune touched up at ova boost. He was having a *lot* of oil into his catch can so I'm guessing something was off. It looks really nice under the hood though.

Feel sorry for the guy personally.. love to know what Sean from allstar saw/thought happened. He showed me one of his spark plugs, in 1 cylinder I can't recall if it looked dented or just like almost slightly melted.. bit weird looking. Not sure if that's detonation or what.. me no engine expert.
