Check this out, I think it's awesome... Just zoom in a little and scroll around for many boyhood dreams just chilling in the sun :)

I can not fathom the amount of cash that is just sitting there, god the cold war was expensive!

+1 talk about perfect timing!

The US could wipe out there national debt selling off all the exotic scrap metal in those things!

Warthog and a Tomcat, please.

Chopper flying around just above the 3 white silo's or whatever when you zoom in is bombed. Whole lot has been edited though. Keen to see what was in the empty spaces. End of the day if there was anything really awesome there, we would be seeing empty space.

Forget what the name of the bombers are but how sick would it be to have one of those as your house.

F-117's are apparently in climate controlled hangers, I'm thinking this may be them here...

So are they all still in use? Or do they just sit there until they're dismantled and sold off in years to come??

JBAE
11-11-2011, 12:50 PM
nah not in use but alot arnt necessarily Un-usable from the vague recount i can remember from a doco about it is they essentially work their way through breaking down the aircraft some scrapped and recycled some harvested for parts and some stored up, not sure if there is an order ect or like certain alotments to be destroyed ect but you will see alot of them are wrap up in a like shrink wrap ect and is basically still useable if need be just have to refit avionics ect mothballed to an extent ie some kind of major conflict raises its head that would warrant the extra equipment, they also use them as drones also for targeting crap

most of this stuff was paid for a long time ago, Clinton pretty much paid off the US debt by 2000

from what I understand this place and others were chosen because the air is very dry which stops them rusting to a certain extent

heaps of B52s, thats a shitload of cash!

Apache for me....

I have been to the scrapyard in the Mojave desert between LA and Vegas and seen a mountain of the commercial aircraft that they have stored up there. That was cool but this would be soooooo much better.

They are filled with a foam and sat there, the USAF can remove the foam and re commission 90% of the aircraft in they need to. A lot of the older gear like F4 Phantoms get turned in to remote control drones and used as target practice. Some of the real old gear is scrapped (B-52A's and so on as it's not worth trying to preserve them or update them to current specs)

Serious face off.

I'll take
1x F-14C Tomcat (no flat stalling because of engine dramas)
1x SR-71A (because fast)
1x B1-B (because swing wing = win)

F-16 can go get fucked, too small. :p

I'd love to get my hands on an A10, as long as it comes with the minigun fitted. Endless fun in the neighbourhood.

I love the fact that it's been designed to lose most of its wings and still stay up in the air. It's like a flying tank farken!

My favourite plane by far.
blow off 1/2 its wings, and an engine and will still pour depleted uranium shells through your fucking tank.

Pilot sits in a bathtub of titanium and composite armour, awesome!

designed in the 70's, and not likely to be replaced until 2028, thats some staying power

I used to love reading about warplanes and shit as a kid,

So much cool gear sitting there, personally like the Phantoms, Prowlers and A-10's.

Might be a graveyard for planes, but it's still serious gear!

Like I said before, edited pics. Most likely a mix of a few different passes. Notice some shadows going one way, some another?

I bet there was a UFO or something....
