McRae Rallysprint Summer series website is now working.
rallysprint.com.au
First event is on next Thursday evening (10th Nov) at the boganplex. So get an entry in pronto and go get smashed by 4WD type tarmac rally cars while trying to dodge kerbs, walls, fences etc. Well, that's how it works for me at least... Great variety of mostly well-ard cars should be competing and it will sell out quick if past events anything to go by.

quick one franz, the exhuast ive got on my sti is a little louder now, will it cause a significant problem, and alos my vehicle is unregistered (being a race/rally import)
FranZ
07-11-2011, 12:47 PM
Being loud won't. Being unregistered shouldn't cause an issue as other non registered cars have run there before. Scruit will have to sign it off to make sure everything is safe though. Best to check with them to avoid disappointment - try admin@rallysprint.com.au or dieter@konceptind.com.au
Is this spectator friendly?

Usually scrutineering is pretty good, focusing on the real safety requirements, I'd rather them pick on something that will save my life :)

Looking good for this event. Fine weather and cool temperature. Plus my rim is just fixed after I kerbed one at the July event. If only I had some headlights that were more than 1 candle power...got future plans for that though.
You entering Franz?
FranZ
07-11-2011, 05:38 PM
Todd: since cages are not a requirement, they are not going to be upset someone running a cage that is not cams approved - they will check it to make sure its not going to cause more damage than good in an accident. As long as its not exhaust tubing and it doesn't have stray bars that could spear you, you should be alright.
MGR: bugger. This is bad news!!
Julian: yeah mate. Was umming and aahing but last Wed thought fvck it, I gotta see if I can still beat Jamie piloting the Evo!

Don't think he was aware because he eased left a little as I was passing on that side. I wouldn't have put our car in that position if I wasn't confident of making the pass before the next chicane. I've got on-board video if anybody cares to see it.

Franz is right though - run as much light as you can. Only time that can be a problem is when heading towards the main entrance roundabout thingo is that you can have a car coming back the other way if you are catching them up. Then the car with the brightest lights wins. That is, I lose!

Managed to get some yewbewb access last night and got to see videos above. Love the pass in the snakepit by MGR on the commode race car. I had been told it was going very slow, dunno why.
Looking at Franz's speed telemetry on his video inspired me to dig out mine and do a comparison. I only have data from July sprint, so only the last half of the track was the same.
Anyways, speeds are in km/h (max or min) Franz first, me second
Return rd at far end of course, sweeping left then right, max 175, 168
180 hairpin onto drag strip, min 50, 49
Drag strip, max 180, 189 (my only win, as expected, but I'll take it thanks!)
Return rd before 1st chicane, max 132, 129
1st chicane, min 53, 43 (chicanes are too tight for my car, I know it, aargh)
Approaching crossover bridge from North, max 113, 101
Across finish line, max 97, 94
Can't see me making up the 10 seconds I need...sigh. I need to grow a pair, and/or get a car that is not inherently unstable.
Hanging for the next round already!

First time out with new back tyres (Khumo V70A). They had some good grip compared to my previous 6 year old rear R-comps, so wasn't loosing out on corner exit grip much if any compared to 4WD's. But 4WD's can get on the power sooner on the exit though!
Given that Chris' Z06 and I got equal times on our quickest runs, I'd be really interested to see some GPS logs from his car.
Franz - the figures only tell a bit of the story. You're much more confident going hard into corners and also keeping it nailed through the sweepers on the return rd at the far end. Seeing where you're going is part of it, but you also have much more confidence in your car than I in mine in a nasty rally environment. And confidence is what this course is all about, to a large extent.

Just the usual rules apply like a normal circuit sprint. Fire extinguisher, triangle stickers etc. Cage not needed and I've seen other cars running screamer pipes. Although I am lobbying to amend the regs to ban drivers with the first name 'Franz'.

Have the girl from http://antilag.com/forums/showthread.php?40807-vote-for-my-sister-in-bras-n-things-model-shit&highlight= as nav, I'm not going to be competitive at the moment (I have no power), so going to have some fun for now.. might hit you up for the next one though :)
Make note of the concrete barrier on the last corner, it doesn't get out of your way, looks a little like this....

You pass the first test. A hot nav. You can only go foward now. Honestly the course is so basic you wont need notes after your first recce through...

1) Have your nav film the recce lap on their phone
2) watch it a couple times just to get it in your head
3) start the first timed run
4) ???*
5) dominate and profit.
*have the first name Franz.

I need to change my name then.. The course looks simple enough, have been going through previous incar vids and I have most of it to memory. She only weighs 60kg too, so heaps a bit instead of having an 80kg fat mate in the car :)

60 kg eh? Can you share her around...oh, that didn't come out to well. In a strictly navigational sense you understand of course. My co-driver (and I know he reads this - come at me big fella) is just too tall and heavy. Plus he yells lots of hard to understand rallyspeak at me really loud all the time... but once I have the foot down it all just fades away into blissful 8 stack induction noise!
60kg? gotta upgrade and get a 45kg nav matee

I've got one that weighs 50kg :)

hey guys

Cheers Guys

By out of date, what is the date on the harness?
Rb_sil
10-12-2011, 02:16 PM
2010 im pretty sure if im reading it right.
FranZ

If thats the case, then they should still be valid. :) CAMS changed the rules for some classes of motorsport regarding harnesses. I think its now Harness expiry + 5 years I think.
FranZ
10-12-2011, 10:36 PM
Its Expiry + 5 years for non international events. See: http://www.camsmanual.com.au/pdf/10_gen_req/GQ10_Schedule_I_Q411.pdf for proof :)

Chompy

Just says reflective triangles, and I can't find the NCR Schedule H Part 3(i) that has info about the required fire extinguishers

A RallySprint is classified as 'Road" event. Schedule H, Table 1 specifies 2kg of fire extinguisher for a Road event.
You also need 2x reflective triangles, 1x first aid kit. For stickers you just need battery sticker and tow point stickers.

How did everyone finish up last night?
I saw there was a power outage for a few runs?

16-12-2011, 09:32 AM
Well that was fun, I drove much slower than I should have been, but the trifecta of first time on semi slicks, first time at that track and first time with a nav was a bit weird

Difficult night for me at least. Gearshift cable retaining clip busted on the first run and got stuck in 2nd out near the roundabout - revlimiter racing to the finish line! Managed to bodge it eventually and get out there. 2nd run was in the pitch dark for the first half until the lights slowly came on - makes it a bit more difficult for sure!
Anyways, got 3 clean runs in and one fast run in at least, plus just made it home with a failing gearchange, so I'll take that as a win. Plus having spotlights was far better.
206 - it's a weird event for the first time for sure. Very different to all the usual sprints and hillclimbs, but very addictive too!

Yeah its very addictive, came in after our first run out and both me and the nav were giggling like school girls, so I'll definitely be doing the remaining rounds, and hopefully the next one if the car is ready for it.

wow what a night... flying around there at night with no track lights on was pretty daunting as i had never competed at one of these before and only managed to squeeze one rec lap in before the start...
had an absolute ball trying something different made for an interesting night running the car on its usual drift suspension setup made it a bit to loose to set a decent time for a beginner but it was so much fun, scruit pulled me up on a few things that need attension that i had totally forgotten about so thats good, will sort them out n be back out there for the january event hopefully.
Cheers to everyone involved n sorry again if i held anyone up (the silver Evo that caught me by half track !!! awsome driving man that car is quick)
ill also get in and ask for Pics as hopefully the photographers got me almost cleaning up the container at the bottom of the drag stip where we transition back onto the return road hahaha drifties are awesome :D
Anyone know who was taking pics at the end of the drag strip? we got some mint slides with my arm out the window (full bogan style) down there....

How did everyone go last night?
FranZ
18-02-2012, 10:04 AM
1st Mark Greenham Evo 7
2nd Franz Esterbauer Evo 8 MR
3rd Jamie Lister Evo 6
4th Will White Evo 8
5th JP Van Loenhout R35 GTR
6th Richard Bennet 997 GT3RS
7th Danny Cerro Evo 9
8th Chris Caruso Z06 Corvette
9th Gerard Illich WRX STi
10th Denver Parker WRX STi
Got Jamie on the last run Franz? You guys were neck and neck!
Bit of carnage with the civic hitting hard and a purple R32 that backed it in to the tyres at the entry under the bridge, nothing major but the arse end will need some work.
Plenty of different approaches to that corner which was catching a few people out and providing some entertaining viewing.
FranZ
18-02-2012, 10:42 AM
Yeah, before the last run Jamie was 0.2sec up on me. The game has certainly moved!
Yup, makes for a great contest!
Are the full results up somewhere?
Fooked if can find them...

You, Lister and Greenham have just got closer and closer each round in terms of final times, with Greenham getting his first win this round. It's gonna be a great final round!
