Driving Standards

You will inevitably be punted during the evening (from accidents or lag) but 'revenge' punts just breed more shit driving.
Keep it clean. Even if you think you've been hard done by. Keep it clean.

> Give each other racing room. No other pushing or ramming other cars off the tarmac.
> If you accidentally push or hit a competitor off the track, slow and let them re-pass you to address the situation (apologising via your headset will also help).
> If you deliberately push or hit a competitor off the track, you won't be invited back.

For how to join and connection troubleshooting CLICK HERE (http://www.antilag.com/forums/showpost.php?p=818220&postcount=2).

See you all Thursday.

Had a quick crack at Autumn Ring tonight with a controller, how far is 1.19.3 off the pace?

Haven't done any online testing, but offline constantly running mid 1:18's with the odd high 1:17. Barely touched any settings on the car, every time I did I usually went slower.

I was struggling to put consistent laps together which could be a problem come race time.

Mid to high 1:15s online.

Didn't find much time in changing settings but did make the car easier to drive and more consistent.

SimonR32

I figured that 17's would be fairly achievable with a bit of practice as I have hardly driven the Autumn Ring before.

I was just doing the laps in free practice in GT mode, is there a difference between that and online?

Fusion

Physics are slightly different online and the car handles slightly different.

Seems to depend on the track.

Just did a few laps online with my generic front wheel drive setup. Must say it is very consistent and easy to drive quickly even using a controller. Managed a best of 1:17.268, not even going to try to beat MGR's time as i never come close when it actually comes to qualifying.

I am fucking. raging.
I wangled a free xbox 360 off my bro who said he doesn't use it anymore.
I paid for Forza 4 from Australia as opposed to overseas where it's 1/2 price because I wanted to be sure I could compete online with the Antilag Motorsport boys.
I paid for an xbox online membership.
I hooked up my G25 wheel.
My fucking G25 wheel isn't supported without an $80 special USB connection mod from old mate China's back yard. Otherwise I need to buy a Micro$oft wheel because it's supported.

What a joke. M$ love to bleed you dry. We (GT5 antilag boys) have had around 120+ hours of online fun this year for around $70 (price of GT5)
It will cost me around $250 to do the exact same on XBOX. AND that fun will stop in exactly one year's time if I don't pay again for another membership!

I'm ready to give up on that game due to principle, but I love my racing too much that i want to work around it. Grrrr.

Anyway, point is: I'm glad there is this free weekly shit. :)

I hate to break it to you but those $80 adapters are a pile of shit too. They can't provide force feedback because all they do is emulate a wired xbox 360 controller. Basically the convertor interprets the rumble data sent to a normal controller and tries to convert it to feedback through the wheel. So the wheel will bump or jolt when you hit a wall but that's about it.

The only way to get decent FFB is import a Fantec wheel. Expect to pay about $600 for the wheel and pedals and more if you want a shifter etc.

Pretty certain you can by a convertor/cable so you can use the G25 pedals, so only need steering wheel and shifter. (still freaking expensive)

JB hifi in Rockingham have the Fanatec 911 Turbo S wheel with clubsport pedals for $499. Well they did last week when I brought mine from there.

Ditto.

Have scored a copy of Forza 4, a mate lent me his 360, and I still can't use it without the following things:
Microsoft Wireless Network Adaptor
Microsoft Live Membership
XCM F1 Wheel Converter

After using a 360 for about 2 weeks, I have no idea how the hell people prefer them over the PS3. I understand they have a good range of games, but it just feels so cheap and nasty and if you want to do anything other than play games you need to fork out more money every time.

If you want to rage, rage at Sony.

Sony have an exclusive licence with Logitech, preventing Logitech making products for the Xbox.

What's wrong with plugging a network cable straight in? You can also get a trial account for Xbox Live.

I prefer my Xbox over my PS3 because:
1. My credit card number doesn't get stolen
2. My graphics card sees 100% usage, rather than games looking like shit
3. I prefer not waiting 3 hours to download patches

Hmm 1:16.343 so far without changing any settings. This thing mauls front tyres if you push it just a little too far.

Unfortunately the medium compound are 1.5 seconds off the pace, so they're not an option.

Brockas
03-11-2011, 02:21 AM
After some slight tuning, down to a 1:15.343.

Don't think there is much in it now, I'd guess maybe a high 1:14 possible if you spend all night on it.

What's wrong with plugging a network cable straight in? You can also get a trial account for Xbox Live.
My router is on the other side of the house, on a different level.

You can get a trial of heroin too, but it's still going to cost you eventually.

2. My graphics card sees 100% usage, rather than games looking like shit
3. I prefer not waiting 3 hours to download patches
1. I'm going to steal your wallet next time I see you.
2. You're sounding like someone who criticises a computer because it loads Microsoft Word 0.12 seconds slower than an alternative computer.
3. If you're on your console 24/7 and can't leave it overnight to download a patch for 20 minutes, what console you've chosen is the least of your problems.

I prefer my PS3 over the Xbox because:
1. It plays my blu-rays.
2. It can stream movies from my computer wirelessly straight out of the box.
3. It connects to the internet wirelessly straight out of the box.
4. PSN network is free.
5. I don't have to hoard AA batteries for the 5 controllers in the house.
6. It doesn't feel like it's going to break every time I eject a disc.
7. My PS3 will last longer than 3 years without RROD.
8. It comes with an HDMI port as standard.

Jesus, I don't know where I'm going wrong... With the standard tuning setting I was around the 1.21's, I did a bit of fiddling and dropped down to high 1.18's now and I seriously can't see where the hell I would get another 4 sec (unless I cut a corner and get a red lap) haha

Oh well... Time will tell tonight I suppose, might be time to get a wheel?

Sony have an exclusive licence with Logitech, preventing Logitech making products for the Xbox.

There's no such exclusive arrangement.

PS3's and PC's use the industry standard HID protocol for USB peripherals. As such any PS3 wheel works on a PC too. The G25 and G27 weren't even officially supported in GT5 until the recent Spec 2.0 patch. But because they communicate using HID they work anyway.

Microsoft use their own proprietary XID protocol. It's actually inferior to HID but because they own the IP they can charge licencing fees to anybody who wants to manufacture peripherals for the Xbox 360. Logitech hasn't agreed with the Microsoft licencing fees so the G25/27 wheels remains off limits to the 360.

Same tactics are employed with the 360 HDD where MS charges ridiculous dollars for their own HDD, whereas you can throw any standard 2.5" notebook drive into a PS3.

Might be in for a lap tonight, haven't got the car yet, let alone done any testing.. Hopefully I can find an hour after work to get some seat (couch) time. FWD car setup always trolls me, I've never taken an interest in learning how to get one to steer.

i baught, built car last night. testing.. pfft... you all know that if i get the inside line on a corner your going off track anyway.

haha

on a serious note, i did some online races on the mini version of the ring and suprisingly went pretty well beating r35's, ferrari's and shit.

would do this to a 135i

I'm racing online in my own lounge to get those times, so the physics may be different.

That, and I'm being pretty aggressive on the kerbs. Keeping 2 wheels on the track at all times but I don't know if that'd go red in a normal mode.

Good few little warm up races tonight, looking forward to the footage of how Riggs launched in the middle of the track haha. My Megane is shit, ran out of effort to continue racing it when it will only throw down 1:18 flat.. Either I'm missing something as far as racing line or the car is just not setup to turn in.

For turn in look at the weight distribution.

It's something stupid like 64:36. Raise the front suspension, and lower the rear, helps turn in heaps. That was really the only tuning I did with mine.

According to the guys at Fanatec there is.

Apparently Microsoft were in talks with Logitech 2 years ago about releasing the G series for Xbox. At roughly the same time Microsoft discontinued their own racing wheel as talks with Logitech were progressing well, and limited Fanatec to manufacturing and distributing 10,000 of their multiplatform units to give Logitech the best possible chance of getting their product out there. Talks fell over when Sony threw the toys out of the pram and there is now a 1 console only clause in Logitech's deal with them.

Since the talks fell over, Microsoft have created a new wheel, have increased the unit numbers allowed from Fanatec, allowed a bunch of small name companies create wheels, and even Ferrari have released an F1 replica wheel.

Having said that, I can only go on the word of the guy from Fanatec that I was emailing. I've searched high and low for information on the licencing agreements, and I'm assuming I've come up empty because of NDAs.

Sorry dude but that makes no sense at all, for a start if there was some agreement between Logi and Sony why were their two best wheels not officially supported in the biggest game release for a whole year?

Secondly, there can be no "exclusivity" agreement because *any* wheel made for the PC will work with the PS3! All the high-end wheels are still made primarily for the PC market, for sims like iRacing, LFS, etc
