Would like an above average camera if possible, around the ~500 mark, is there anything out there i should be looking at.
I was considering an entry level DSLR but i think i'd like portability with the ability to shoot some decent shots. Mostly outdoor/daylight type thing but hey.

Yeah I've got one of them. It's a pretty good camera. Bought it over a DSLR due to ease of use and no need to buy additional lenses.

I bought the SX230 as my travel camera and was very happy (beats lugging the 7D around).
Does good HD video, super slow mo, excellent zoom with optical image stabilisation. I was at AT&T Park in San Fran and night and was able to zoom to the other side of the park to pick out the fights that were happening hahaha

I have a Canon Powershot SX210 IS. Brilliant little bit of kit for something a couple of years old. Has done me very well for the last couple of years. I bought a DSLR when my son was born, but that bag doesn't even leave the room any more. Too big and most of my camera use is family/friends.

^ Got the SX210IS as well. Great happy snap camera, with killer macros focus (I think it's like 0cm, or something totally stupid).
