View Full Version : Accomodation - Down South
Sup ya'll, whats good?
Anyhoo,
Anyone have any recommendations for a semi decent place to stay down south in the Margs area?
My last 3 visits have been @ the 35 buck a night backpackers @ Dunsborough Inn, not an option this time.
Ideally - sleep 4 people in 2 pairs (so a serviced apartment), though 2 rooms next to each other is fine if its a hotel/resort etc.
Not really fussed if its in Margs or Dunsborough/Busso etc.

What's your budget? Cheap? Balla?
Bunker Bay is awesome. They got studio rooms, one bedroom and two bedroom villas etc.
Mercure in Busso is good too. They got spas in all rooms, choice of normal room, one bedroom, two and three bedroom townhouses. INdoor and outdoor pools, and Jacuzzi.
I know of the physical locations of places, was more after names of places people have stayed.
Budget - hmm. Im not Joe or JME but dont want to stay in a shovel either. Im guessing between us 500 bucks a night wouldnt be an issue?

I've stayed @ Darby Park Serviced Residences
http://www.darbypark.com.au/margaret_river.php
(http://www.darbypark.com.au/margaret_river.php)Did the job fine, plenty of space, bedrooms down the bottom, entertainment area up the top and close to everything. (right in the middle of margs)
cost was $400 a night, but that was peak season and quite a few years ago now, it's not an expensive place though.
check out wotif.com for prices, usually always cheap.
Spare me your technical mumbo jumbo!

I rented a three bedroom townhouse in Grand Mercure couple of times, 6 occupants, under 400 bucks a night. Worth looking into, got a proper kitchen there, two bathrooms etc. I'd say it was probably 3.5 to 4 star, depending on how fussy you are.
Haha I stayed in a 35 buck a night backpackers, so not overly normally. The desire for something nicer is due to others coming

Crows nest in preverlly, very cool place
Central Ave Apartments in Margaret River is awesome. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but heaps of lounging space and good quality fittings.
Margarets Beach Resort in Gnarabup is pretty good as well, although it's smaller. On the plus side you're in walking distance of Gnarabar - freaking awesome food and plenty of talent about the place.
We stayed at both places a few weeks ago.
When you're down there go to Laurance Estate. You will not be disappointed with the views and the food.
Something like this? http://www.waterfallcottages.com.au/accommodation.htm way under budget, cottages are well spaced and it's about 10mins from the heart of Margs and less then 10mins to Caves road.

Been before Karl - you are right, very nice.
https://www.theberryfarm.com.au/ will be hitting up Berry Farm like usual - those who came down on the antilag weekend away earlier this year can vouch at how good it is.

Stayed at margarets forest last weekend with the missus. Great self contained rooms and it's about 100 metres from the pub. Have also stayed at abbey beach. Was awesome from what I remember

Stayed at "Jemelup Chalets" with the Mrs a few times, great place for the price, has a log fire and a rain water spa. Located on a Marron farm so if you like Marron you can get them fresh as. Place is run by a Husband and Wife.
About a 5 min drive into dunsbourgh.

Wherever you think you might stay, call them direct after you've had a look at wotif/lastminute etc
They avoid the commission and you'll probably get a better rate. I've heard this a couple of times from people who run private / smaller operations.
I also enjoyed bunker bay resort - they have split chalets that you can open up for larger groups.
The apartments at caves house look good too.
We usually stay at Bunker Bay Resort, but 2 weekends ago we tried Windmills Break ( http://www.hotelsone.com/yallingup-hotels-au/windmills-break.html?label=ggehoeu-bh323369_windmills%20break&gclid=CPjF8OfyhKwCFeZV4godnisx9g ) which is a 5 star Resort which is on Caves Road, and about a minute from Bush ShaCk Brewery.
Was quite nice, relaxed, none of the staff harrassed you. I think it was $564 a night, but they only have 12 rooms so I think you have to book ahead.

Try regency beach club mate. Its a resort made up of very nice 2 and 3 story houses in dunsborough. For what you are after I think its about 450 to 500 a night.

So did we, $200/night spa appt.
wasn't overly fussed with the talent or food.

Smiths beach is the bomb. Prefer staying next door to the resort at Chandler's though. Better views, better prices.

Can anyone recommend a holiday house for 8, for 1 night in Margs, Walpole/Denmark and Albany? Most places have a minimum of 2 night stay.

Gnarabup resort can have 4 or 6 to a room from memory in the small rooms, they have larger 2 story ones. We have stayed for one night before. They may not do it during the peak tourist season though
Redgate Beach Escape - stayed here a few times great for 2 couples
