Over time I've noticed a lot of people asking about grand theft auto V in this section of the forum. Until now nothing official had been mentioned and nothing had been leaked(as is often the case with big games these days), everything was just rampant speculation.

Now rockstar have said they will be releasing the first trailer on Nov 2!

Keen as fuck. GTA3 was the first game that got me into games, and into a PS2 (at like 9 years old?), then had to buy every one after that. SA was the best in terms of map and free roaming, 4 was awesome in terms of more realism (how he breaks into car, driving physics etc). 5 will not disappoint!

For me Vice City was some of the best fun. Hilarous story line, but also the whole Scarface vibe going for it. Overthrowing the boss and running the town at the end. It also wasn't TOO involved, like having to eat and work out and shit. I don't want to have to do too much bullshit amongst my going nuts blowing the city to shit.

Oh yeah and in GTA4 you can sit on the brake, spin up the tires to get them smoking and try to go gutter to gutter down the street etc. If you keep it going long enough the tires (not always both at once) will pop :D Only figured this out like 3 months ago. Works best with the torquey muscle cars though.

Grand Theft Auto V has officially existed for just a few hours now, but rumors are already beginning to fly about its setting.

Kotaku is reporting that “a source familiar with the game” has told them the game will set in a fictionalized version of Los Angeles. The west coast was last seen in a GTA game in 2004′s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Kotaku is also hearing that the game will have multiple playable characters, a first for the series.

And don’t forget our own GTA5-flavored rumor, solid proof of a 2012 release date, courtesy of statements made by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

Taking a bus from the city and gunning it down the freeway at top speed and then pulling onto the opposite side of the road head on and watching some of the drivers fly out through the windscreen on fire as you plow through them head on.

Blocking off the freeway and letting a huge traffic jam form and then throwing multiple sticky bombs and watching bodies fly everywhere and everyone burn to death.

Go inside the hospital in GTA IV and shoot up the place.. Cops only have one place to come in (the sliding doors) Camp in the waiting area and ping headshots till you rack up 5 stars. Then set a waypoint for the nearest helipad and go for gold. Hours of fun.

I also loved RDR, not the ending so much. Didn't want to play as John's son, they could have left the very last bit where you kill the old Government cop for a sequel. Could have called it Red Dead Revenge or some shit. There are a lot of references to Red Dead Revolver in Redemption, so they could have carried it on into the next game.

Thanks to an anonymous tipster we’ve got our hands on what could prove to be detailed information on Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5, GTA V). Whether it is true or not we’ll have to wait and see, so take this as a rumor, but so far the information provided doesn’t seem to be all that far out there.

According to the person behind this information they have an NDA with Rockstar which they have obviously decided to violate. Again this is rumor although could prove to be true in the future. Some of these bullet points might be considered to be spoilers. The quote below is SIC.

The protagonist is Hispanic and his name is Adrian
It takes place in San Andreas in the year 2012. The Mayan end of the world thing is parodied a lot because of this.
You start out in Los Santos and are in your rivals turf. Varrios Los Aztecas after getting beat up and robbed
The game revolves around money in a big deal. I’d reveal the big idea but I don’t want to ruin it.
Multiplayer is in again. There are a couple of new game modes, co-op story and 32 player game modes for consoles and 64 player for PC, PC also includes dedicated servers
Pc comes out on launch and is being ported by Leeds. From what they’ve shown us it is optimized much better than GTA 4
San Andreas includes all the same cities from GTA SA and this time they have all become a bit bigger as well as much more detailed.
Gang turk wars are back. This time not only the general gang are in charge but different sets such as 57th Ballas or the Eastside Azteca. The have their own graffiti. You can tag up stuff with custom sprays too.
In the end your protag dies once again just like in RDR. Afterwards you play as his brother who inherits the money.
“The Money” I refer to comes from a massive drug trade that shits to San Andreas. It is fought over a lot throughout the story and it comes with lots of money. It has ties to your family so it becomes a bigger deal.
The timeline continues off of GTA 4. It is reference a lot. I’m not really sure whether Niko dies but he’s mentioned at least twice.
Car modding is back so is lowriding of course.
There are 9 radio stations. It features a range of music. Some of the rap is new, some is old. There’s a better selection than GTA4 though IMO.
Military has returned in the 5 star wanted level except they are referred to as the National Guard.
Cover system is upgraded and players more smoothly
The moral decisions you saw in GTA 4 have more effect on the story now. There are a total of 4 unique endings 2 bad, 2 good. Whether protag dies in all of them you’ll just have to figure out since the endings are actually pretty cool.

Looks like a well improved GTA 4 renderer, except brighter - and I mean that literally. GTA 4 had a very dark/grainy/gritty renderer, in EFLC/TLAD the noise effect option made it even worse!

Kotaku are pretty well known as being full of crap, and they don't really say anything interesting about the trailer that a person with eyes couldn't determine.

Rockstar have said a while ago that they've finished with the story lines and protagonists from the GTA3 era of the games, I wouldn't expect anything on that front (Vercetti speculation).

I think it's safe to assume though that this will be pretty darn cool, and I'm keen as to jump every vehicle in the game off a large mountain, preferably onto someone, or the spinning blades of a well placed helicopter with the aid of friends online.

Even the prospect of pushing an unsuspecting hiker down the mountain with the euphoria engine would provide hours of amusement.

According to the source posting on the forum the information was provided to him by co-workers that were treated to a lengthy look at GTA V prior to the release of the debut trailer.

Given the ambiguity of the circumstances we'd take everything revealed here with a pinch of salt.


Here's the full list of leaked details



•The game world is absolutely massive and will push both xbox and PS3 to the very limit in terms of what it has accomplished. Yes, the main city is simply Los Santos however is it AT LEAST 4 times bigger than Liberty City in GTA 4 and that is just Los Santos. The surrounding country side, beaches, etc are massive. For instance, we saw the main character ( an African/American, early 30's) travel by car from the center of Los Santos into the wildnerness and it took over 15 minutes. The views were incredible from farmhouses with cattle, huge wind farms, an oil refinery which appeared to be living and breathing with nearly 100 NPCs working on machinery, operating vehicles, lifting and loaded, etc, unlike the gas works in GTA 4 which seemed to only house a few NPC at a time. The forests are more beautiful than those in RDR and featured people camping, young NPC drinking and dancing around campfires, people riding dirt bikes and jumping over logs, streams, etc. The water effects, forna, plants, trees all looked beautiful.


•The shooting mechanics have been greatly improved with animations for diving, climbing, rolling and crawling all added for better realism. The re-loading animations for new ammo also look cooler, less cdn.static.


•There is much more climbable elements in the world such as ladders, overhand climbing, etc.


•There are animals in the game from dogs to cattle but at this time it is not confirmed if you will be able to harm the animals. Rockstar were able to get away with it in RDR as it was a true depiction of the world in which the game was set. Allowing dogs/cattle to die in a game sent in current times may cause headaches with PETA. Its unclear if Rockstar were joking here.


•There are planes to pilot and they can be crashed into buildings if you choose to do so....


•Rockstar have included many, many more interior locations such as a shopping mall, college campus, police station, a huge hospital and there is also a vast underground sewer network which one mission later in the game involves a jet ski chase that culminates in a Fugitive-esque waterfall jump ( there are nods to the ridiculous but awesome Ballad Of Gay Tony missions)


•The city is full of NPCs jogging, weight-lifting, hitting on women, being chased on foot by cops, shopping, washing cars, fixing fences, moving home, filling up their cars, etc.

REAL JUICY INFO:



•Cars can be upgraded/repaired and it has been considered to have a car have fuel forcing the player to fill her up.


•The dating aspect of the game is gone. You still have a cell-phone but only people you will meet in the game will call you to ask you to do a mission or to ask you to do something else before the mission.


•Weapons include the usual arsenal you'd aspect but the flamethrowers, remote mines, laxer trip mines and claymores are included. It is possible now to pick up random objects in a street/buidling to use as a weapon. There is also a museam where it is possible to steal old age swords, axes, etc.


•It is possible to rupture a fuel line and if you shot at the trail of gasoline it will lead straight back to the car blowing it up.


•mini games such as bowling, darts, etc have all gone. You can play basketball, weight train, arm wrestle, gamble and cage fight, enter triatholons, water races, cannoing, ab-saling, rock climbing, base jumping, ski diving. More to be confirmed.


•Character customisation is back but only in terms of clothing, body weight, etc. The player you start off which, much like CJ, can't be altered by race, age, height, etc.


•Rockstar said burglary missions may return but only as part of missions and not on neigbourhood houses.


•No children NPC at all. Ever.


•There is now an ability to grab people and use as sheilds or in "hostage" situations.


•The cops are much, much, much more realistic. If you kill somebody when you know there are no cops around you will not run the risk of a one star as often as you would in GTA4. The cops will use smoke and tear gas, dogs, riot gear and rams to knock down the doors of buildings you are hiding in.


•You can enter some buildings and lock doors, push objects in the way to barricade.


•You become better at things as the game progresses. If you only ride motorbikes then you will increase your skills, same as individual weapons.


•Certain weapons can be customisable and some even home-made.

Yep, all gone very quiet since the trailer release 7 months ago. Lots of 'hints' in the trailer suggesting 24th of May but Rockstar would've known the footage would be under intense scrutiny. They may have dropped all those 'clues' to deliberatly troll the internet.

Gotta hand it to them, they run a tight ship. The only real info available to predict the actual release date probably lies within Take 2's financial projections. Their fiscal year runs from April 1st to March 31st.

Revenue 2010/2011 was about 1.14 billion (Red Dead Redemption released during this window)
Revenue 2011/2012 was about 825 million (down 315 million)
Projected revenue for 2012/2013 is ~1.8 billion!

Surely only a known IP as successful as the GTA franchise could possible account for that many projected zeros.

So I guess we can assume the game will be released before 31st March 2013. ;)

It'll look the same on both platforms, effectively. Maybe slightly more blurry textures on the PS3 version just like with GTAIV. I've not read anything about it, but I'm 99% sure they're just running an improved version of the GTAIV engine.

If anything it will probably run better than IV in less demanding areas.

you do realize that all of the trailers that had shown previous 3D GTA games had pretty much the same (if not worse) graphics than the actual games themselves

We are certain Rockstar Games learned from mistakes made with the release of Grand Theft Auto IV on PC. The game was a port from consoles and had numerous issues across different computers. Many patches had to be released in the months following. For Max Payne 3, Rockstar developed the PC version alongside the consoles. This allows the game to run much better with less chance of major issues since it was created just for the PC. Rockstar has yet to confirm GTA V will be on PC but we expect the PC version to do the same and hopefully release approximately two weeks after the console versions - but Rockstar's words make us think it will be months after, if at all. If and when Grand Theft Auto 5 releases on PC, the game mods that follow will likely amaze us as much as the ones seen for GTA IV. There are many talented coders out there with futures in the industry - maybe even with Rockstar Games!

It may come out on PS4 but will likely be when it is out on PC as the architecture is similar. So far it is a PS4/XBOX 360 only title. Looks fucking impressive for such old hardware.
