Hi All,

I have a really bad knock coming from under the car in which i am guessing is around the gearbox area, the passager sides feels terrible while no so bad from the drivers. I am guessing that a mount somewhere must be broken?? Does anyone know where i should take the car to be sorted?? I have taken it to one well known place asking them to sort out during a gearbox change but they were busy and was told that there was no problem.

cheers dom

Lie down under the car with it on jack stands and rotate by hand the moving parts. You will quickly self diagnose where the problem is.

exhaust? sounds likely as those rubber mounts die easily. (depends on car, my exhaust goes down the passenger side).

exhaust hitting underside of car due to fucked / bent mount.

would help to know what kind of car

save ya self potentially getting ripped a new ass and try to find the problem first yourself if you can, get under and give the exhaust a good shake would be a good start

can you actually physically feel it knocking, like as in something hitting against something else hard?

or is it just a knock sound

Its a hard vibration, aparantly not of the good kind the girly tells me :)

I have given the exhaust a good olds shake and it didn't want to budge, so I suspect its coming from the gearbox. As far as i know the gearbox mounts are fine as nothing was mentioned when it was changed.

I should be noted that it is still there at idle, could it be an engine mount?

oh its a 180 sx

It could be the exhaust dump hittin if youve changed turbo set up.
Apart from that maybe driveshaft.
