View Full Version : Home alarm info - naked dsl
Is anyone on here a home alarm installer?
I have naked dsl and want to get a new home alarm system that will sms me when it goes off. From what i hear it can be complicated to set up so all the standard home alarm installers just say it cant be done.
Does anyone have any ideas or have a system already set up.
Help appreciated.

Not sure if you can make your alarm send you the notifications that the alarm has activated etc, I think Joe's does it or his does something similar like it sends an alert the alarm has done something.
Only thing I can suggest is getting your alarm monitored. I work for ADT Security as an alarm response operator. We provide an SMS service for power fails and non priority events. We call for alarm activations, total comms fails etc. Customers much prefer to be called if the alarm is triggered as opposed to an sms. Rates vary for residential alarm monitoring.
As for having naked dsl, I think a splitter would be used, as for regular ADSL, they use splitters to allow the alarm to use the phone line and not disrupt the internet. You could go for a GSM/GPRS unit which don't need a phone line.

We are installing a setup where it does SMS notifications. Not sure how it works for yours/what you require though.

not a splitter. MODE 3 socket.
PM me for phone line/mode 3 installation. not an alarm specialist but will speak to my guy tomorrow and get back to you. Have just done a Solution 16 in Shenton and the owner gets sms notification.
THanks guys.
Keen to get contact details for an installer who has set up a home system with sms and is using naked dsl.
Thought this would be kind of common. THe sms set up seems easy enough but the naked DSL seems to add the complication.

If you are getting SMS notifications are they not being sent via a SIM in the alarm? Therefore a wired line is not neccessary. The problem with the NakedDSL is that it's not actually a plugged into a phone port at the exchange - just a DSLAM.

Adrian you fucking company man!
Nothing hard about it, it just comes down to the system you choose. Buy one with in built SMS notification, buy a sim card for it, have it installed. Anyone telling you it is too hard or can't be done just doesn't use those types of panels. End of the day you've still got a main box, keypad and sensors, nothing more.

Mode 3 won't work with naked DSL - there isn't a dialtone at all. This is totally irrelevant to SMS anyway.

It's not like the tech is new - we've had a mobile phone controlled alarm system on a boat for the last 12 years...

My thoughts exactly. Car alarms have used this system for years.
Current old alarm was set up by RAC so i contacted them for a quote and apparantly it is too hard for them. Definately will be trying elsewhere.
