Hey guys, not a member of SAU so i thought id try my luck here since there's a lot of rb25 boxes being used on AL. Im just wondering if anyone can e-diagnose this for me, so i can formulate a plan of attack (2 weeks of exams now so no time to work on the car and no funds to pay someone else to). box is running in my vl, not overly powerful and this happened when i was flat out (~350rwhp at the time). the box fits as standard, only the shifter handle itself has been modified to fit a vl, so everything else down is stock.

anyway, track night last night, smashed a change a little too hard and something gave way, crunched kind of like id missed a shift, but it was in gear.
now there is heaps of play in the gear-stick, it will select all gears including reverse, however even when it is in gear the stick is able to be moved around heaps.

if its well fucked i'll just leave it on someones doorstep and buy a new box, getting the box out is a non issue, however if its likely something has fallen in and down, or the box will have to come apart, i will likely just cut losses and buy another box for 1k, considering this one was already a bit noisy in the higher gears.

thankyou all for your kind attention.

Had the same thing happen to my 25 box in my R31 - except it jammed in gear first, then when we got it free it then showed the same symptoms.

About 260 rwhp, smashing gears.

There is a plastic washer in the botton off the shifter, made had cracked and broken, then got stuck jamming the shifter. Without the washer it leaves the gear stick sloppy.

This was along time ago so exact details are sketchy, but I bet its that.

you'll have busted the plastic cup retainer thing at the bottom of the shifter.

Yeah it will be the nylon part on the bottom of the shifter has either cracked, broken or fallen off...

They are cheap from nissan and very easy fix :)

(shipping would probably cost more than the item - I'd call a dealer)

Legends, all of you! The broken one should still be retrievable without dropping the box then?

Tweezers and some time.

haha nice call...

Yeah even if they fall off I think they are big enough that they can't drop to the bottom of the box so you can get them out with some needle nose pliers

I've got a spare Cusco brass one if you want it. Have gone through a few nylon ones in racing.

$40 is what I landed it here for.

Stupid question alert, how do you install the brass one? Wouldnt it crack when trying to install it?

GTRgav

It has 4 slots cut to allow slight expansion when pressing on.

Put a nylon one in it for now @ 10 bucks?

TheChad

Was planning on it.

However still would like to get a brass one over here, as I intend on pushing the car a littlemore at the drags soon and would rather the piece of mind, since I wasn't even shifting that hard.

Nylon will get it going for now, but still looking for a brass one or two for the future.

Do those brass items transfer more noise into the car from the box as compared to the nylon ones? Might order one if they don't.
