Earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 happened not too long ago (2.16pm AEDT) 130km's south-west of Denpasar.
Apparently no tsunami warning as of yet.

A NUMBER of buildings in Kuta have been damaged and at least fifty people injured after a strong earthquake struck off Bali, causing panic in tourist areas as people fled from their homes and hotels.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the magnitude-6.0 quake's epicentre was in the ocean south of Bali's capital Denpasar, but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The police headquarters in Denpasar, where a 14-year-old Australian boy is being detained, was evacuated following the earthquake, which struck at 11.16am local time today (2.16 AEDT).

Hundreds of people poured out of the police headquarters and surrounding buildings after the quake struck, but the prisoners at the police lock-up remained behind bars.

The Australian boy, who is being held in a separate part of the complex, was allowed out of his cell but was not permitted to leave the building, a police source told AAP.

Strong shaking was felt for several minutes in the main tourist district of Kuta, said Endro Tjahjono from the Bali office of Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency.

"There was panic, everyone ran out of the buildings. When we returned to our office building, we saw some cracks on the wall and plaster had come off the walls," he told Agence France-Presse.

The USGS said the quake was measured at 61.3 kilometres deep, and struck some 130 kilometres south-southwest Denpasar, but Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency measured the undersea quake at 6.8-magnitude and put the quake's depth at just 10 kilometres.

The walls of some temples along the coast crumbled and witnesses told local radio and television stations they saw some houses with collapsed roofs.

"It knocked me off my motorcycle," said one resident, Miftahul Chusna.

Candy Juliani, a public relations officer for the Sanur Beach Hotel, said everything in the building was shaking.

"The guests ran from their rooms in panic," she said.

"We have special emergency routes for this type of situation but everyone was so scared, they just ignored them."

Others reported seeing cracks in the walls of their offices or homes.

The 14-year-old NSW schoolboy being detained in Denpasar spent his ninth night in custody on Wednesday, after being arrested for allegedly buying a small amount of cannabis while on holiday with his parents.

On Wednesday, prosecutors suggested they were prepared to show leniency and would not insist the teenager be sent to Bali's notorious Kerobokan Prison, which is where minors are commonly sent while they wait to appear in court.

My mate was diving while it happend...

" “We were 28m when a strange rumbling started, looked up for a boat but it got louder. lasted 15 seconds or so and stopped. finished dive to surface and were told they just had a small quake. Lisa was at the villa and reckons the bed was moving and the windows shaking. no one hurt and life is going on like nothing happened. Made people runout of the buildings in kuta. shit not many can say they have dived during an earthquake.

If youre taking a piss then an earthquake hits forcing you to shake more than twice, is it then considered a wank or rape?

If you've got Parkinsons, is the magnitude of the earthquake multiplied?
