Hey crew,
Finally decided to ditch my basic 21" benq that I've had for 4 years for something a bit nicer. Looking in the $300-$400 mark.
At the moment the
ASUS VE278Q ($380 PLE/netplus with $30 visa card)
and the
Samsung S27A350H ($330 PLE)

Anyone got experiences with either monitor or can suggest any other monitors, happy to go down to a 24" for a better quality monitor. Not realy interested in anything 3d either.

cheers
Mark

Not too sure how ASUS's 27" monitors are, but I know pretty much all their 24" ones suffer from severe ghosting with high-contrast.

Contemplating seeing if they can do anything about it in terms of warranty on my 2xVS248H's, can't really do without monitors at the moment though...

when going pass the 24" screen you want higher rez then standard 1080p
spent bit more and look at Dell U2711 1440p :) or at least 120hz..

The BenQ XL2410T looks like a decent bit of kit, unfort Im rocking ATI so the 3D bit is useless for me

Right, I think Ive found what I want,
Nice 23" samsung (ok a touch smaller but thats ok)
120Hz Ati 3D
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=558_1210&products_id=17808
And $410, plus shipping, the 27" one goes for about $550 but 23" is plenty of screen estate for me

oh and also,

Whilst 120hz is the best invention ever and looks smooth moving for your eyes (I use 1x 120hz alienware shitter LCD, it's okay, but not the best, but it's easy to use and adjust)...you do need to make sure you have the GPU power to achieve at least 100+ fps..otherwise the refresh rate will still look fairly avg and it's a waste of money!

Foxcomp seem okay.

Bought my corsair case off them when it first got released in Australia.

Very good pricing and cheaper than if I was to buy from PCCG (including shipping, which rapes it).

Although...................on my status it took way to long for the money to clear into their account.

It kept saying 'transfer pending' or whatever, so this delayed things, whether or not it's the bank stuffing up I don't know ;) Either way, took less than a week.

I've used Foxcomp twice over a span of...5 years?

ONLY buy from them online - you will get absolutely raped if you pay in-store, as this is how they work their business to reduce in-person customer service as they're all a bunch of FOBs.

I bought my recent batch of RAM through them, phoned up late Friday to guarantee I could pick it up Saturday if I paid by 4pm on Friday - they said yes, then basically told me on Saturday I couldn't pick it up. Went off my fucking nut at them and they had it couriered over from their warehouse within a couple hours. So while they do come across as useless at times, they will rectify their errors quite swiftly.

I think the megabuy site is broken, lists the monitor as weighing 1kg and shipping at $15, lol. Would be nice if true, I can bet the second I order it they will cancel the order and ask for another $50 in shipping

These LED backlit monitors are very light, the cubic weight will exceed the actual weight, even then it's fuckall

RACISTS!

:p

(MSY is okay to get ram etc off and simple shit, their customer service is actually quite good in Balcatta...they've done some clever things in the past which I could explain but I'd rather not..but I was quite surprised nevertheless)

note: Other MSY in cannington or whatever was shit, the guy was rude spec FOB (not a racist comment, as I too am "FOB")

Dell U2711.

Bought mine for $700 from Dell, they price matched Harris technology, and provided free shipping.

2560x1440 res is amazing, although you do need a decent gpu setup to run it.

Costs a little bit more, but will be worth it.

Might be a bit late but the U2412M is 30% off until tonight, down to $279. Picked one up, they arent far off the U series spec's and an absolute steal at that price. Will sh!t on any TN panels!

Missed the megabuy post...also wouldn't trust MegaBuy.

We dealt with them through work for a printer + inks. Ended up going to consumer protection to try to get our money back because he was constantly fucking us around.

Basically what he does is he piles up a bunch of orders, takes the money, THEN places an order with his supplier so he can actually get them at the price he was advertising them for (wholesale prices, etc).

I too am FOB and that pingpingpingping pissed me off so bad ahah
sold a dodgy mouse with the thumb/side buttons not working - and looks like the box has been open tampered with...
came back literally in 3hr for an exchange but noooo, I got my money in the end after 20min of FOB speak.
Balcatta MSY NEVER picked up the phone.

Just notices that samsung are just about to drop a new line of 3d 23/27" monitors. Pretty much the same specs as the current series but in a much more traditional frame/case. Hopefully also a slight bit cheaper. They have slowly started appearing online but no official word yet

See 2D in a new dimension with a 3D converter
Enjoying 2D images in 3D may seem like a fantasy, but with Samsung it is a brilliant reality. At the push of a button, Samsung’s 3D Converter transforms your favourite TV programmes or movies with amazing 3D-depth. It will reinvent your favourite 2D content. And with the 3D visual adjustment feature, you can even customise your 3D experience to match your particular likes. It is a new level of visual comfort.

Interesting! Wonder how that works...

HN in Warick has the S27A950 in stock for $798 and the S23A950 for $548.
Going to have a look at them in person this arvo then see if the will match the PLE price of $550 for the 27" and $425 from foxcomp for the 23"

Had a look at the monitors yesterday, I realy like the pannel but the styling isnt my cup of tea.
Toms hardware used a S23A750 (Same internals, more normal shape) for some tests recently and had a lot of good things to say about it, so thats what im gonna get. PCCG has them for $440 inc shipping or vtechindustries in ozzie park (stock in early November) for $397
