View Full Version : Ford Pre-ignition

My daily has started to Pre-ignite. Its a 4L EF falcon. Haven't really fucked with Fords before, but is the ignition timing adjustable? Also have heard if its caked up with carbon that can cause pre-ignition (carbon deposits heat and ignite the mixture). Only does it when its at op temp. Help appreciated :)

Can buy an additive to add to your fuel that reduces carbon build up.

take it out and hurt it, or see if you can find somebody that still uses carbon clean and get it cleaned out. It is possible the dizzy has jumped a couple of teeth, but pinging only when hot would suggest carbon buildup

Thanks guys, My works got a ton of different carbon cleaner. Might try the subaru cylinder spray, That shit works a treat. Even run a vatek through it seee how that goes.

Also doesnt run dizzy, has coils.

That subaru shit is good stuff, you used to be able to get a cleaner that was pump into the fuel rail and cleaned the injectors and cylinder head,it banned a few years back cause it caused cancer in baby albino dolphins or something along those lines..... :D

Yeah we got that too. Its called Injector max, pour it into this cylinder which has a pressure gauge, air line and a line which feeds into your fuel rail. Connect the airline, adjust the pressure and your rolling. Dunno how good it works but.

Being an EF its got a coil pack, timing is set.

Rape it to clean it out

Another issue thats baffled the fuck out of me is, Ill drive around and the thing wont overheat, park the car up, come back in 5 mins to start it and boom the needle reads all the way hot. Start the car and let it run for a few minutes and its fine again :s

That sounds like excessive heat soak, my GTR does that too on a really really hot day but not so much where the needle actually moves but on the PFC, when i turn it off it rises from 80 degrees to about 85-88 depending on the day. As soon as i turn it on and the water pump is operating, all the hot water at the top evens out and temp goes down to 80 degrees again.

FYI pre-ignition and detonation are two different events, If your engine is still alive your most likely getting detonation, not pre-ignition :P

Yeah you could be correct there, either way its ingniting the air/fuel at the wrong stage. Wheather it be air/fuel igniting before spark (pre ignition), or igniting the end gas (detonation). Ill give it a carbon clean and see what happens.

EF falcon - that's your problem... much hate for EF's ... best bet is to "clear it out" ... hammer the car.. should work a treat
