Hey, long time lurker/sometime poster here. Thought I'd pop up a thread on my car as I'll have a bit of progress happening soon in the mod department.

I previously had a worked blue 2007 XR5T in the earlier shape which was smashed by hail and repaired, came back perfect but with it being out of warranty and the XR5T's ending production late last year I thought it would be a good idea to grab one of the last of the new ones as the RS is still out of my price range.

Picked up my new white 2010 LV XR5T with black leather in May and started to transfer the mods from the old car.

Tint from TKO and Graham Goode Racing Cold Air Intake and boost hoses on so far:
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s21/crispymk2_CarEvents/New%20XR5%20Turbo/529992f2.jpg

Also have sitting in my spare room ready to fit:
Mongoose 3" turbo back exhaust with 100 CEL cat
Radtec intercooler
Uprated gearbox mount
Adjustable rear camber arms
Whiteline adjustable rear sway bar
And I'm waiting to get my flash tuner hand set back from the UK so I can tune it.

I also just today I brought a secondhand set of Tein Super Street coilovers which should be here in a few weeks.
http://jhp.com.au/jhpgto/SuspensionBrakes/JHP-OPTION-3-h.jpg

Once those are in I'll start saving again to get a set of dished Work XD9's or 11R's in matt black.

For a wrong wheel drive they do go ok and I love the 5 pot growl

That is very tidy! Great colour choice.
Which flash tuner did you go with?

Crispymk2

Cheers mate. I have an SCT Livewire with the Graham Goode Racing ST300+ tune on it.

It's basically a generic tune designed to suit their mod package which I'm also running, or will be shortly. Will get it dyno'd too once the parts are all on.

That is very tidy! Great colour choice.

Looks real good, good choice on the Recaro's.

I dont if its just the picture, but it looks like the front bar has faded :s, is it very noticeable in person. Not trying to offend.

It's actually slightly darker than the body, same as the back. All of them are from the factory, only Ford could fuck up plain white. All the colours apart from the black have the same issue to varying degrees.

Stands out more in the pic than in person as the contrast has been upped a fair way in that shot

Well progress has been a little slow lately with me recently becoming unemployed so I haven't had the spare cash to get all my parts from the old XR5 put on yet. :(

So I've been using the time to give my old parts a bit of a clean up as they had been on the last car for around 40,000kms. All hand polished with Autosol, anyone have a buffing machine I could get some time on?

Hopefully I should have a new job soon so I can start to get some of this stuff fitted as I miss the sound of the Mongoose exhaust!
My second-hand Tein coilovers should be here soon too and I'll be giving them a bit of a clean up too before fitting.

All looked like this before:

The Teins rocked up eventually. Now all cleaned up and ready to fit, I cant find the before shots but they were pretty grubby. Might have a crack at fitting myself, or I'll just get WA Suspensions to do it.

Thanks man, getting there slowly. Got a new job now and paid off my speeding fines so will have a bit more cash to spend on the car soon.

I havent got a bigger turbo setup though, just a Turbo-back exhaust, intercooler, and flash tuning unit to go with the cold air intake on there at the moment. Suspension-wise I have the Teins, Whiteline RARB, camber arms and uprated engine/gearbox mount ready to fit.

Teins were $1350 which I though was pretty cheap for Super Streets. They are Mazdaspeed3 ones as they share the same suspension setup.

I sold my Eibach lowering springs already unfortunately! Sorry mate!

Nah, mine still has the stock exhaust for now until I get the cash to fit it. They do sound awesome with some exhaust mods.

My bad. Thought I remembered reading you had a turbo kit on your old blue one that you took off :P

OT but I remember when I bought super streets for my old car, I worked at repco and someone in Sydney had ordered them but not bought them. So I had them shipped over. Got them brand new for $800 :D

Makes a noticeable difference to the smoothness and seems to breath a bit better at higher rpm. Not much noise difference, was hoping for a bit of a louder dump but probably due to being on the stock tune at the moment.

Crispymk2

Had a fairly productive week last week. Had the full turbo back consisting of 3 inch dump pipe, 100 Cell Cat and 3 inch cat-back with 4 inch rolled in tips

Car now sounds amazing and I realised just how used to the stock noise I had become. I also fitted Eibach 20mm spacer kit which increases track front and rear by 40mm. Car looks very tough now with the rims coming right out to the guard and even slightly beyond. I am having some slight rubbing issues in the rear but only when fully loaded and over bumps. Will wind in a little more camber and stiffen up the Teins a bit and that should sort it.

Here are a few pics from today:

Looks nice awesome, much power increase with the larger intake pipe?

Just a note, my mate has one of these and the front cv shat itself, because of this it locked out 4th and 5th gear and caused heaps of steering wabble and grinding noises.. its a factory fault these cars have - what the service manager told him.
Maybe get ford to check these for you incase you have the same problem.

Crispymk2
17-03-2012, 05:08 PM
Thanks mate. I noticed an improvement in the smoothness of power delivery with the larger intake pipe and a little more mid range and top end but I'm expecting more of a result once I get the tune onto it, just waiting for Graham Goode Racing in the UK to email it through.

Yeah, I know about the wheel bearing/front hub issues but havent had any issues yet myself *touches wood*. One guy on the XR5 forums has been through four sets! I personally believe that the ESP system accelerates the occurrence of the fault as it is way too aggressive and applies the brakes during hard cornering which causes increased lateral loads through the hubs/wheel bearings and what happens is they are obviously slightly out of spec and they pull out of the hub causing an ESP System Fault and limp mode with the bonus of being locked out of 5th and 6th gears. It is a borderline recall issue imo, so many LV's have had the same problem is is obviously a manufacturing fault. I just drive with ESP off at all times.

Will be getting it dyno'ed once the tune and IC are installed just to see how the afr's are behaving and what power level I'm at. Aiming for +200fwkw eventually which is plenty for a wrong wheel drive.

tune will really wake it up, especially with the breathing mods, should piss in 200fwkw

Ha ha, I saw you come out to check as I left!

Yeah, $8k rims on a $30k car doesn't really work. HRE centre caps are almost as bad as work stickers on Rota's but I think I'll try and cover them with carbon vinyl.

I thought I would make things easier for myself by removing the front bumper and after getting half way through I realised that this was just going to be a PITA. But I managed to get it off and tucked away safely inside.
http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii517/Crispymk2_CarEvents_02/Stands_zpsa61c2b77.jpg

http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii517/Crispymk2_CarEvents_02/Stands02_zpse8a4af87.jpg

I have plenty of practice fitting intercoolers before but have never done one with the front bumper removed, anyway I had super easy access this time and lifted off the passenger side then the drivers side and pulled to remove it from the inlet pipe.

Nek minit… Cracking noise followed by a gargling sound and a slow drip of coolant rolling down the side of the radiator like a silent red teardrop… I hadn't lifted the IC high enough and thanks to the extra leverage when I pulled it was just enough to develop a small seam on the driver-side plastic radiator tank.

A few choice swear words later I called a mate who had upgraded to an all alloy rad and he kindly offered me his old stock radiator to get me back on the road.

I had to drop the coolant for the hoses anyway so I started fitting them while I waited.
http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii517/Crispymk2_CarEvents_02/Bay_zps901be0fb.jpg

Fitted the new radiator on the weekend and started on the rest of the bits.

The RoadSport IC includes larger hoses, here is a comparison between the PumaSpeed hoses and the Samco boost hoses.
http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii517/Crispymk2_CarEvents_02/HoseComparo_zps09fa85f6.jpg

http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii517/Crispymk2_CarEvents_02/HoseComparo02_zps4ead349f.jpg

When inspecting the PumaSpeed Plenum I was a bit disappointed to see a lot of shot peening media still stuck in most of the bolt holes. Basically rusty ball bearings and flakes of alloy would fall out of the bolt holes when poked. Not something you want to fall into your inlet when fitting if you don't inspect beforehand!

There was also a large protrusion on port 4 that would have created un-even airflow. There was even a decent sized dag of metal protruding out.

http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii517/Crispymk2_CarEvents_02/PlenumBefore03_zps716bc817.jpg

I cleaned all that out with a dremel and also cleaned up the bolt threads followed by a couple of coats of VHT wrinkle paint.

Decided to hold off on fitting the Forge as I'd had enough by that stage. I have since swapped the Forge for an Elevate/TurboSmart unit.
http://i1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii517/Crispymk2_CarEvents_02/Forge_zpsf3eb93d5.jpg

After all that I took it for a spin, all was good but when I went to check the coolant levels the bonnet wouldn't open thanks to the stupid key/latch/badge system…

3 weeks later I finally got my car back from Ford! I had also asked them to check out an oil leak I noticed on the side of the block.
New crankseal, new timing belt, new tensioners, new oil pump, new oil pump gaskets later she is all sweet! I was very lucky that I knew the tech working on my car and they were able to push through my warranty claim despite all my mods.

Next is to get the Elevate DV fitted and a trip to the dyno to see if my heat soak issues are now sorted.
