Driving Standards

You will inevitably be punted during the evening (from accidents or lag) but 'revenge' punts just breed more shit driving.
Keep it clean. Even if you think you've been hard done by. Keep it clean.

> Give each other racing room. No other pushing or ramming other cars off the tarmac.
> If you accidentally push or hit a competitor off the track, slow and let them re-pass you to address the situation (apologising via your headset will also help).
> If you deliberately push or hit a competitor off the track, you won't be invited back.

For how to join and connection troubleshooting CLICK HERE (http://www.antilag.com/forums/showpost.php?p=818220&postcount=2).

See you all Thursday.

Word of warning; the C63 AMG fully tuned destroys tyres. A pitstop on the Nurb GP track costs about 25-27 seconds but I think if you're doing 10 laps it'll be worth it to stop for fresh rubber. The tyres are really hurting after 8 laps. Forget running hard racing tyres as they give away 5 seconds per lap compared to the racing softs.

These are my tuning settings if anybody's interested:

Start with base car, apply all mods, fit Type B front spoiler/rear wing and change oil.

Settings (F/R)
Ride Height: -25/-25
Spring Rate: 10.7/8.6
Dampers Ext: 6/6
Dampers Comp: 7/6
Anti-Roll: 3/3

Camber: 2.5/1.0
Toe Angle: 0.00/0.20

Transmission Max Speed: 300

Time was 1:54.7 set on the first flying lap as the tyres just get slower after that. If you plan on tuning your car do it online in your lounge as the physics are slightly different in online mode.

I wouldn't mind seeing a race with a high PP limit. As in.. 750-800pp. Basically something where people can bring out their best but without it being F1 cars and Red Bull X2010s etc. Even if it's just for one race. 650pp limits mean we always miss out on our top cars.
Just a thought to spice it up a bit more.

shit i bought and tuned mine up the wazoo, i think its around 750pp.. bugger.

i also bought that fiat 500 lounge thing to earn some coin in one of the seasonal races so thats what im voting for next week :)

I'll check the PP ratings of some LM specs cars and set a new 'high' PP limit for next week. I still reckon the medium paced cars on sports soft rubber produce the best racing though.

Are you sure? I thought I had taken a standard car, applied all power/weight mods and changed oil to get the 614PP figure?

Agree

actually i dont mind whatever we race, variety is always good although racing softs arent very realistic though

heh now im going to have to go back and check, i always get hp and pp mixed up.....

btw, chapparrel 2J is in the online car dealer thingy at the moment, left the PS3 grinding with Alex's X2010 to get it

In.

How many actualy have the X2010? Had it for a while but not used it, only drove it in the special challenge. Be cool to do a race in that as well.

Anyone done any of the longer endurance races in A-Spec yet? I've done a couple of the shorter ones 2.5-3 hours but trying to justify sitting down for 7 or 9+ hours to do them, 3 hours solid and my ass was numb. No idea how you would go about the 24hr.

TJ

Not even slightly interested in x2010 races - so fast people are just going to hit each others.

I reckon we do a 700pp but limited to non race cars.

Both the 2J and 2D are available in the OCD. I only just bought the 2D when it poped up in the used car lot a couple of weeks ago. Now it's in the OCD at about half the price with 0km on the clock. I was glad to see the 2J though. Bought that and used it to win the Historic B-Spec race (Expert level) at Monaco and won the Alfa Romeo GIULIA TZ2 :)

I haven't done any of the enduro races because they're fucked. If you could run a team of drivers (including youself and a couple of B-Spec drivers) I'd consider it. Doing the Nurb 24hour and LM24hour with one driver is ridiculous.

The only offline racing I bother with now is the occasional seasonal event to get my credits up.

Good point, we need jedi reflexes.

I have a habit of trying to finish a game before I go online (Do so with all the COD series) and done all A-Spec except the enduros and Formula GT championship (another all day ordeal) Finished B-Spec and even that took months.

Do a few hours, pause, leave PS3 on until the next night, do a few more hours, pause, repeat. :)

yep agree with TJ, X2010 is dumb, wouldnt mind a non-aero hi-PP car race (although policing that is tricky)

i just did the nostalgia supercar races in the seasonals where 1 lap of nurby on racing softs (while the AI cars are on sports!) nets you 560k and 60000 XP

Did that a few times over and got the 2J and the Toyota 7

And yeh i mixed up PP and HP with the C63... although after a handful of laps mine has crept up to 618PP

After a bit of checking I think 700pp is too high for road cars. Even a bombed R35 only hits about 650.

I reckon 600pp for road cars is a more realistic target.

I think this race will be pretty interesting with the tyre strategies and whatnot. I didn't have a wing on my C63 before, it definitely calms the rear down and makes it look after the tyres a little better, but boy does it look gay.

TJ

It looks like I wont be home for tonight :( Probably get on around 11.

Was keen to blow tyres of ze germain sled.

29-09-2011, 01:28 PM
^^ I thought the same... "fuck the wing, will gain 30hp without it and wont make that much difference". Boy was i wrong, 2 seconds a lap slower when or more to the point if you put a good lap together. Does look shit though lol. Had a quick crack last night and managed a best of 1:55.6. Could prob go a bit faster but would take a fair while i think. HOW YOU GO 1:54 MGR?

Sciflyer
29-09-2011, 05:46 PM
havnt tested it myself but word is aero drag is fuckall in GT5, you can run full wings on anything and you'll lose sfa top speed, which makes it a tough call to lose some wing to get PP back for more engine power

Good racing tonight and really enjoyed the Nurb Merc race. I ran wide into turn one and Millzy got through. Followed him for a couple of laps before we both ran wide at the right hand kink. Millzy spun and Alex got through. Managed to pass Alex on lap 5 before pitting and then pulled a small gap back to Alex. I though I had it in the bag until I realised Stu hadn't pitted and wasn't going to. His tyres didin't quite go the distance, but he still finished second.

Plenty of Nascar carnage as usual. I tapped the back of TJ in the first race and caused a pile up which involved nearly everybody. Nice pit exit in the second race Butcher ;)

Good racing last night, struggled with the Merc's a fair bit. Didn't realise till i was trying to detune my Fiat 500 that rear wings can be adjusted (Had the game almost a year and only just noticed lol), that would have been handy with the Merc i think. Still would have span though as my line through the fast right hander was all wrong lol.

Oh and i apologise for my 34R, shit under brakes and no turn in meant i slammed into some people hard.

The Chapparell proved that anything with "2J" in it is a weapon
Farking fast and nice handling, looks like it was knocked up in someones shed though

Gotta say i didnt mind the 300pp race, although i fucked up the kombivan's handling and came last

ALEX.
30-09-2011, 09:55 AM
Didn't really like the slower PP stuff, to be honest. It was not very exciting. I vote we go back to the 350pp minimum. Gotta try it though.
I liked the Merc race but hadn't actually driven the car before the night, so it was a bit of learning.
Just after we pitted, MGR, i caught the chicane at the end of the lap and lost time. I threw away second place for sure, but probably wouldn't have caught you. I was amazed that Stu got through in second place without pitting! He's the Jenson Button of tyre management in our GT5 room...

Also, that NASCAR crash was huge. Usually there's at least one car that will make it through the carnage. Not this time! Everyone dead. I guess you had to take over VY's duties that night MGR since he was away – and put everyone into a crash!

Oh and how crap are the physics online? They are fairly unpredictable at times! I'm not sure what's going on with that, but I can't see how or why Polyphony have changed them between offline and online.

Final thing: did you put traction control on (like, 'essential') for the Lotus race @ Monaco, MGR? That was awful. Couldn't drive the thing properly. I never have TC on in any car, any race, and being used to a crazy-steering lotus and suddenly having grip meant I suffered as I kept feathering the throttle and steering inputs because my brain was still in non-TC mode. It put me into a wall a few times when I'd turn in, power on and bam, into the apex wall because the car actually has grip.

I'm done.

TJ

When I was leading that Lotus was nice to drive!

Second I got passed it became a bucket of shit. Wierd.

The Mercs were fun, I didn't pit either and had some big offs so didn't do well there. Enjoyed the Lotus race but copped some big nudges.

No idea how but crashed out big and ended a lap down in both NASCAR races. Drove a whole lap of the first race with the pit menu in my face, pitted next time round and lost a lap, wtf?

millzy_88
30-09-2011, 10:10 AM
Anyone else have a pit crew for the nascar races that once finished changing tires would sit around for about 20s before releasing. Was driving me mad. TC in the lotus was not necessary, in fact not having it made the tight hairpin much more fun lol.

Fusion
30-09-2011, 10:42 AM
I had no luck last night. Everytime someone crashed/spun I seemed to be right behind them and had no where to go.

The 600PP race with non-racecars at Laguna Seca was suprisingly fun (after complaining about the track). Should try some more of these.

Millzy - With the Nascar races, that usually happens if you exceed 80km/h when entering pit lane.

Bob

I believe that last photo shows me unfortunately plowing through the apex. Oops!

Enjoyed the drive. Some close racing / crashing at the back there changing places.

Yeh looking after those tyres for the whole Nurburgring race was tough, had to concentrate so hard on not just light them up. I ended up using up the fronts too much, didn't conserve them until too late, good race though.

This thursday the COTW will be the Fiat 500 1.2 8V Lounge SS '08
First Track : Deep Forest - 8 laps

Will make new thread later this evening.

Yeah that huge pile up in the first race was my fault. Only gently touched the rear of TJ's car but I think perhaps lag glitching made the contact worse than it was. If I get time I'll post a video replay tonight.

The physics offline are only slightly different to online. I actually preferred the online physics in the Merc because in offline mode it understeered a bit more. I think the calculations happening in the background must be simpler to accomodate for the fact the PS3 has to handle processing all the network code too.

You can only force TC off. You can't make it mandatory. However with the one make races every time you pick a car or colour it resets to the default TC setting of 5 (I've been caught before). I always disable TC but I don't madate it for everybody. We have enough people crashing and spinning already.

On a side note there's a reasonable update coming 3rd week of this month - GT5: Spec II

No confimation on exactly what new features will be added but they have also confirmed the first DLC will follow a week later.

Several months ago somebody data mined the GT5 website and found track logo images for virtually every track ever released in the Gran Turismo series hidden away. There's been speculation ever since of plans to incorporate at least some of these tracks as a game update or DLC. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
