Hey,

I was playing around with overclocking things almost since i got my PC... had heaps of dramas with 1 of the video cards getting hot (>95 degrees)... CPU was also heating up.

i7-2600k is now running quite happily at 4.5GHz with a Corsair Hydro H70. Stoked with it, maintenance free and easy to install.

Cranked the fuck out of the GPU fans, still getting way too hot. So finally I got 2x 120mm fans and stuck them on the side of the case blowing air directly at/inbetween the cards.
Pretty happy now, 2x GTX570s running at 850MHz and 2200MHz memory. Playing BFBC2 they are both the same temp now and rarely go over 75 degrees and never over 80.

Does anyone have any experience with this stuff? I'd like to go further with both CPU and GPU, not because it doesn't play BF but i just like tinkering with this stuff. But not sure where the limits are..

Heh BF runs at 200fps quite often, but the poo spec game always dips randomly as low as 120fps. (1080, with everything on high).

Same principle as a car

Wind it up till it pings (crashes) then turn it down a little.

when cooling just remember its as imprtant to get the heat out as it is to get air in. especially if your running with the side on the case,

what case are you using? a very worthy investment is an extraction fan ontop if it doesnt already have.

Try blowing some smoke into your front induction fans assuming you have them and try to see just what the air is doing inside.

Hmm the smoke thing is good idea to see what's going on air flow wise.

It has a 200mm fan on top, I took it out and put a different 200mm on there... this one is off it's tits. The 2x 120mm on side are going full kvnt too.. there's also a 180mm?? on the front pulling air in.

Currently the only thing taking air out is the 200mm at the top. There's room on the base for another 180-200mm... i would assume to pull air in only though as the case is only 15-20mm off the table it sits on.

Hmm will see about winding shit up a bit more :P No crashing at 4.5ghz and 850mhz video. Will aim for 5.0GHz and 900mhz and see how close i can get without meltdown/crashing :P

Cheers.

Water cooling.

CPU is water cooled. Graphics cards are not.

570s are now at 900MHz kek.. waiting for something to shit itself.

actually hold that. 900 = BFBC2 shit bricks within 5 mins of play haha.
Back to 800-odd :P
