Seems theres quite a few that either openly admit they are still kids or wish they could be so heres a thread for you to all add to and admire.

I have had Lego all my life (34 years) so pretty sure Im going to be the biggest kid here ...
Back when I was tacker I had that much of it I had my own Lego room
To this day I still have everything that was ever bought for me or I later in life bought myself , been a few years since I have even touched any of it but now my sister has a son and inevitably started buying for him I seem to buying all the new Technics that come out.

Couldnt bring myself to strip it so I bought another 1 to build the alternate model.

Highly suggest that yellow/red truck , $160 from Toyworld , 1,115 pieces and its function/finish is awsome !
Took me about 5-6 hours just cruising through.

The back of the truck actually drops as the ramp is lowered , so much detail packed in the chassis rails is mind blowing.

I have a 2.5 year old. He'll graduate from the duplo soon, then it's on.
I remember making killer space Lego bases as a kid.
Can't wait to get into some more technics :)

He has a monster matchbox/hot wheels collection. I take any excuse to buy that stuff.

i had/have a massive LEGO collection, mostly old space and pirate stuff.

Does anyone remember the LEGO world expo that came to Myers in the city nearly 20 years ago? they has the giant scenes from movies made out of LEGO.

One of the ladies at work has a fair bit of the Star Wars stuff. She just has to work out how to get the half destroyed Death Star into work and where she can store it. Pretty complex stuff.

For those looking, http://www.bricklink.com/ is meant to be a good site. It's like eBay, but only for Lego. There are a few others as well, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

I've also always meant to play the Lego video games, as they look quite entertaining and humorous for what they are, but never got around to that either.

I can't wait until my boy is a bit older and I can do this stuff with him. :)

I fucking should have bought "10179" - The Star Wars "Millennium Falcon" (over 5000 pieces)....last year I saw them for about $700, now people are asking over a thousand it would appear?

The only reason I never bought it was it's so fucking HUGE (I think it was/is the biggest) and I'd have nowhere to put it :/

Same here but currently all of mine is packed up in their original boxes or large bags.
Whilst at CCGS - I don't know if you did as well, I was entered into a lego building comp at MYERs. Failed miserably but it was so cool when you're at school.

I actually assembled these with a fun rigging of LEDs for one last time over the xmas holidays - on about 4m2 of grey lunar squares:

Loved my lego technic. Had the superbike, a front end loader, and a few others, plus one of those 55L stackable buckets just full of lego. Love the shit so much.
When I was in highschool I did a robotics course, that used the Lego Dacta kits (spelling?), with the computer controllers. So sweet. I made a merry-go-round once that collected each passenger and loaded them into a trebuchet which shot them across the room at high speed, I put a chip in the blackboard with it. Fun times.

honestly cant say I have, although I, as all of you, had a shit tonne of lego as a kid, heaps of pirate sets, and loved it!

I just don't understand the appeal now. But I suppose, as you said, after a 5 - 6 hour session and actually seeing how complex they are, you would probably have more of an appreciation. I guess looking at the box you just see the simple end result, as opposed to the time and effort gone into it.

I still have a tub of my lego here ready for my kid (that was due on Firday, still waiting :/ ) when they are old enough. The fun in lego wasn't building what the box tells you, it was all the shit you could build out of all the peices mixed together. You can building anything you want. I built everything from transformers (that could transform from robot to vehicle) to stuff that went on other toys. I remember there was some show, I think it was called dino riders where they put guns and stuff on dinosaurs and rode them around, I had some toy dinosaurs and used to make the guns and suits out of lego (and I think Duplo back when I had that lol).

Thats it lego box is being opened.

mr_mike
05-09-2011, 09:28 PM
we used to make Lego guns, but they were big with interchangeable magazines and stuff. We would then wrap them in electrical tape so they wouldnt come apart during combat and go run around the bush making hideouts and shooting each other.

man this has ignited an old flame ...... I have researched 8294 Excavator and am ordering it on line tomorrow when i sort some shit out.

I can safely say that LEGO contributed to my life in a big way, I used to build trucks and machines out of this stuff and no I am a H/D Diesel Mech that works in tech support. I had 8851 excavator (pneumatic) and i remember working out how it all work for the cylinders and also had 951 bulldozer ... now I do it for real for Liebherr Mining :)

How many others can say that they had the same influence.

Not the biggest or most complex kit but I the idea of making storys and games with the figurines. I also had a heap of Technic too

One of my favorite Technic I had was this, but mine was black

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-V76KUOGQ9p8/SbWINzfRQZI/AAAAAAAAB9E/Qcr1eDqfTEg/s1600/5550-CustomRallyVan-01.jpg

Might have to get myself some new sets, the junk they sell in the shops these days to the kids is much more basic then the sets I used to play with in the 1990s, not as fun I don't think.

How great are the space lego sets from the 90's and also the pirate/"jungle people sets" from the same era.

They just aren't as original and cool nowdays! Simple is sometimes more ;)

Never got any technic lego or any real cool pieces that fold or hinge when i was younger. Me and my brother basically got a large garbage bag full of hundreds of different colour bricks, maybe 20 wheels with a brick in between, 1 turntable (many fights was because of this lol), and a few clear pieces and green bases.

Saying that it created so many hours of fun and didnt really stop mucking around with it till high school, after any really interesting cartoon, movie, tv show or even just seeing a cool car roll down the road was inspiration enough. Fark we even made scale models of a cricket field that worked in a similar way as the board game Test Match with a marble.

Mind you i dont see the attraction in later life lego collections other than remembering the times had when younger, would rather take up carpentry or invest in a lathe and start turning something down to create something rather than assemble a kit etc..

sat down with one of the engineers at work a couple of weeks ago using the lego Design By Me program they have on their website - http://designbyme.lego.com/en-GB/default.aspx?icmp=COFranchiseUKDesignbyME - you basically build a set using the program, and write the instruction booklet, then they send the blocks out to you, bagged and boxed up.

This is what we came up with - we're sending them out as Xmas gifts to our clients :) Pretty basic, but still cool.

Looking through this thread actually made me feel a tad emotional, I had a few of the sets some posted up. Never really got into Technic although I had a few. Mainly loved the pirates, medieval, and western stuff as I liked building armies. Used to build fighter planes and war ships designed myself. I'd easily say majority of my leisure hours in m childhood were spent with Lego.

Last year mate and myself were looking at buying the pirate ships we missed out on as kids that we drooled over!!

This is my first lego purchase in 15+ yrs since I was a kid and used to play with the stuff.

Took me about 2.5hrs to build, which is probably slow... but I enjoyed it thoroughly haha
Might be grabbing another one this afternoon... I'm thinking a black 4WD or a truck.

Gleeso

Either eBay or Big W. Big W have pretty good prices, just keep your eyes open for catalogs(for anywhere) with decent specials.

I tried getting kits through Amazon, but a lot of sellers don't seem to post here, or maybe it's some new laws not allowing it.

Probably better keeping your online orders for kits within Australia as a lot of the sellers don't go too crazy on packaging, so you may end up with a fucked up box.

One hour twenty minutes in I needed a break. Unlike other builds Ive done the stages dont relate to a specific bag of parts ie the parts are scattered all over the parts bags with no reference to the location which is a bit of a head fuck.

James_2007 didn't post a link but a quick Google led me to their flickr page (http://www.flickr.com/photos/co2pix/sets/72157629807394513/) :D

Some statistics:

We spent 400 hours each over three months building this. We started in Early January and finished in late March.

We estimate over 20,000 pieces but it's probably much more.

It weighs in at 100 pounds.

The entire roof lifts off and then the rest splits into three sections for ease of transport. See this shot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/co2pix/7073740123/in/set-72157629807394513/

There are four LEGO Power Functions motors.

Everything currently works off of batteries but that may change.

Everything is LEGO except some of the lighting and two pieces related to the lighting.

Only one LEGO piece was harmed while creating this MOC. :-)

We have no idea how much it cost in LEGO and other materials.

Where do you buy the big kits ??

shifted
28-02-2013, 08:35 PM
I'd imagine kits like that (batman and harry potter) are just pieced together from hundreds of other kits...

Large kits like the death star/crawlers etc. should be available from Toy World, Toys R Us etc. may need to order in though?

Largest legit kit was the Millennium Falcon but that's not longer in production (scale model with reference to the size of the Lego men. So awesome), and I think it's been topped by another Star Wars themed kit??

Nope Falcon was bigger by 2000 pieces ;) Also just found the biggest was actually the Taj Mahal at just shy of 6000 pieces. Lame.

Spent the past 3 weeks in the UK, took the kids to Legoland in Windsor.
Thought I'd share with you some of the photo's of the place. We spent 6 hours there and still missed out on about 1/4 of the place.
All the Lego trucks & trains in miniature world are all motorized and drive around the place. Its pretty cool to see.

I don't get the point of LEGO these days.
They're like 3D plastic jigsaw puzzles, rather than giving you basic building blocks, and letting you determine what you make.

Out of the "kits" you guys buy, how many other things can you make from it?
