View Full Version : Moving house.. literally!

So we have a block, with an old 1930s 2x1 weatherboard house sitting on it.

Instead of knocking the pingpingpingping over, a few people have suggested selling the house and literally moving it somewhere else.

Does anyone know who in Perth might provide this service, or have any recommendations?

Cheers :D

i would just advertise it as is, gumtree, reiwa. dont give out adress as it may be seen then as vacant.

There's a company in QLD that do house removals, but they also buy your house or sell it on consignment prior to removing it.. if anyone in WA did that sort of service, it would be an awesome option!

I'm happy to give the house away for very little, as long as the buyer pays cost of removal.

Not sure how you would go about moving it?

Dismantle and re-assemble mabey? If its on stumps or brick foundations I would think its not strong enough to just lift and tranport without major reinforcing under it.

It's on stumps.. generally they cut the house in half and throw the pieces onto the back of a low loader semi trailer.

They do heaps of these relocations over here in qld, but good luck finding someone in WA to do it...

I work in the modular industry, trust me when I say if you can't find someone to do this for you(move the house) it be be alot cheaper to knock it over.

Have a knock down party Joe

Get someone to come in turn the power off. Then Get family friends around and dismantle the place.

Do some prelim advertising in the papers for a demolition sale If you are smart what you sell from the demo will pay for what doesnt to go to the tip. And its all cash.. The true wog way.

It's probably riddled with asbestos from renos/repairs over the years. Dont want to be doing that yourself and if its over 10m2 its illegal without a lic.

The guidelines for removal of asbestos are changing on 1st Jan 2012. If you plan to do anything do it before then because i would think they are only getting stricter which means it'll become more expensive to dispose of.

Advertise as vacant so muppets come in and tear it down for you, no legal implications for yourself?

Used to see houses getting moved about heaps when i was younger (~9-10) would always see them in 2 halfs on the back of trucks heading up Albany hwy. Havent seen any in years probably isnt anyone in WA who still does it.

This. Let someone else worry about moving it. Lady across the road from my grandparents did this, sold the house for $1.00 on the provision that the buyer removed it and cleaned up any mess left behind.

Edit: Bit of Googling found me this mob - http://www.yellowpages.com.au/wa/lynwood/brt-removals-12979763-listing.html

Bloke in Kalgoorlie has been doing this all over the Goldfields for the last few decades.
May be worth contacting him and discussing the process?

Yeah okay Adz.. we arent talking $100 here.

Last house I organised demolition for cost 12k, not much different to this one.. plus site works.

Id rather spend that money elsewhere on my house.

I've seen a couple of houses get moved onto a block over my way in East Freo in the last 5 years.

If you don't find someone in the next few days pm me and I'll go knock on some doors.

You are also talking about alot of time wasting here. Especially when you guys are keen to get things started ASAP.

Time to find buyer, time for them to sort out what they are doing on their end with property, time sort things out with 'house mover'. Time for that to actually happen.

Then still time to start site works all over again. Knock it over and have it cleared in a day. Get the ball rolling.

What about getting it out under the power lines.... ? :) If you have a site survey, send it out to a few demo contractors for a quote and request a 600mm rake depth.

you used to see houses like yours advertised in the quokka for free all the time a few years ago

some of my parents friends got one and dismantled it themselves and carted it out to their farm. was a cheap option for them and for the person who owned the block.
