what do ya mean not a good choice i can get an rb20 complete engine and computer for $1000 less then to rebuild mine. What dramas did u have? i sort of need to do this conversion because i've got big plans for the rb30 before it goes back in, full rebuild, rb26 head, big turbo etc.Now that stuff aint cheap so it aint a want thing mate its more a need lol

if u got big plans for the rb30 just get another one of those for the time been ( a non turbo version that is ), hell of alot cheaper than doin the rb20 conversion.

If you get a workshop to do a RB20 conversion, it will cost you $$$, dont waste your time. It will be very sluggish unless u do mods. i had both the 20 and the 30 in my VL and the 30 owned.

RB20s are designed for lightweight Skylines, not VLs. You wont get any gain from fitting the RB20. Leydon is right, find a NA RB30 for time being and save yourself hassle and money for the big RB30 build you have planned...

i dunna mate how light u think a skyline is considering my vl is near dead even on the scales as a 180sx.but yeah i'm not real keen on runnin a non-turbo'd motor in my car its a factory turbo'd car so i just recken it would be lame to put a natro motor in it.even if i bolt my turbo on it i dunno if it'll last anywhere near long enough to have that other rb30 det built.and as for the expensive workshop... well that would be me and my mates. one of who has already had an 20 in his VL.

Do the RB20 conversion then, but dont expect power gains or even a car that 'feels fast'

I had cooler, full exhaust, pod and more boost on both motors and the RB30 was 'alot' better!

Doing the actual conversion doesnt present any dramas as long as you and your mates know what your doing, its a straight fit. Dunno if you can fit the factory RB20 cooler tho. may need to fabricate custom piping and front mount as i did.

also exhaust mods, i needed a new dump and front pipe.

also gearbox, check that the VL box will bolt up to the motor and also the length of the tail shaft may need to be altered to suit the RB20.

well i've decided that although it aint much work at all for me to change over to the rb20 and with the gear box yes they do match up but i recken i should have a non-turbo motor in on the week end maybe, and i'm just gonna run my turbo and manifolds etc. and see how long we get out of it.

We've done several rb-det conversions on the V series commodes. Last year we did one a month! Call us if we can help.

Well a standard rb30det is 150kw and rb20det is 158kw. the 30 doesn't come with a cooler tho so prob will end up with more if installed
