this is happening wayyy to often. My mrs works at AAMI in the assessing dept and just this week they have had 9 stolen vehicles, 7 of them were house intrusions and keys taken.

This is something im in two minds about. (Cars insured)
1) Leave keys in the open because if they are going to the effort of coming inside for the car keys it's pretty serious.
2) Hide keys and risk getting woken up at knife point.

At least the dog is decent forewarning when someone come past the front gate.

Exactly - the one and only night we've ever left our back door unlocked (accidentally) was the night we were broken in to. Makes you wonder if they've been there before and tried to open it, eh?

Similar to when my old man forgot to lock his car one night - wondered out the next morning to find every compartment opened up and $2-3 in silver taken. It does make you wonder how often some pingpingpingping comes up the driveway and tries opening each car.

Fucking dogs.

Every time I read one of these threads I get closer to buying a quick release boss for my steering wheel. Hard to flog a car when you can't steer it out the driveway.

Missus was cooking dinner late evening few months ago. Our kitchen window looks right into the backyard. It was fairly dark outside, but she still managed to notice some white trash pingpingpingping outside the window in our backyard, looking into the house. She freaked out and screamed, he bolted. Probably jumped the fence coz I didn't see him when I ran out.

Fuck, it woudln't surprise me if there were people just going around house from house looking for any opportunity. Statistics work in their favour, they're bound to find someone's house accidentally unlocked etc...

This is the exact reason why my doors are locked 24/7. Even if im going in and out of the back door i lock it after each pass as a habit.

Far to easy for meth heads just to wander around suburbs going yard to yard testing doors.
If they get lucky with an unlocked one its like winning the crackhead lottery, minimum they will most likely get away with is wallets, laptop/cameras and no doubt keys to a car or two.
