View Full Version : [IN MEMORY] An R33 built in a best mates memory

Hey guys

So as the tittle states im building a S1 R33 but its a paticuarly centamentle build for me, five years ago my best mate passed away after crashing his S1 R33at high speeds.
He faught for his life in hospital for some time and in the end passed away.
I never had much money but i vowed to myself to one day rebuild an exact replica of his car with an strong engine under the bonnet as a token of my
rememberance to him.

He had a white S1 R33 Slammed on it ass with some awsome 18" wheels and some coilovers no engine mods at all.

Finaly I am in a position to be able to afford to build the car and so a few months ago i took ownership of a rolling shell that had been in a small mingel at a drift event, so now the build begins!
Basicly A very good mate of mine Luke had a R33 setup as a drift car with rego had a RB27 combo in it and the car was killa, but unfrotunatly at one of
the drift events in collie he had a small mingal with another drifter and decided to reshell the car rather than fix it and he was nice enough to donate the shell to me.

This was Luke at the event that wrecked the car

Once the pannels where removed it looked like a prity straight forward fix, small kink in the rail and the majority of the wheel arche was mangeled!

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo37/SUSSLUX/226773_196996587011727_100001041607108_556408_4495 024_n.jpg

So i set out trying to find a donner car to repaire mine with basicly needed and intire front end including the structural front clip.
I managed the track down an extremmely written off S2 R33 for $2,500 witch also had a low km RB25det and manual box so i grabed the write off!

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo37/SUSSLUX/222244_196996137011772_100001041607108_556391_2721 346_n.jpg

There was an issue with the S2 i bought tho the front end was twisted so all the structural clip forward of the shock towers was no good.
Just in front of the strut towers is a factory join basicly you can drill out the factory welds remove the front clip and replace it with a new one.
So now i still needed to find a a good front clip.
The other problem was that it was a S2 and the car i was building a replica of was a S1 so i needed to swap front ends with some one witch i mananged o do recently.
I also managed to find a front clip with minimal damage!

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo37/SUSSLUX/222001_196996940345025_100001041607108_556422_3814 612_n.jpg

The front clip cost me $39 and about 30mins of my time LOL
Now that I had eveything needed to complete the repaires to the shell I sent it off to the pannel shop!

The whole idea behind building the car was that it looked identicle to my mates car down to every aspect so I found an S1 front end, tracked down a S2 spoiler and found a set of the exact wheels he had on his car.
There are still a few small parts i need to top off the body but its getting there

Now that the car was back at home and ready for an engine we stripped the engine box and loom from the S2 wreck and got to chasing some go fast bits
for it. I did my home work and looked into a good setup for a street/track car and these are the parts I came up with and i had them all polished as soon as I got them all.

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo37/SUSSLUX/247414_201787666532619_100001041607108_588341_8105 603_n.jpg

Now ive got all the parts for the engine to go in i inlisted the help of a good mate and his father Graham and Craig to help with the fidlly bit as they have both been involved in drift for over 5 years in WA and also the help of the boys at BRP.
We have got the engine to a state where its ready to be fitted into the shell with a new clutch but we have hit a small snag, we just need to move everything from one workshop to another and just havent had the time.

The turbo is a GT3071 with a .89 rear (I think its .89)
The mani is a 6Boost item with a 38mm Tial gate
The plenum is obviously a copy but its already been on a car and worked very well
The fuelrail is won of th old LUMPY rails LOL
The fuel system was already in the car but im not muh of a fan i think ill change it all to an in tank pump setup.

Ill keep adding pics as the build goes on

Great build thread (besides some spelling issues) and much respect to why you are doing it.

But I would hardly call those wheels "awesome".

Good luck with the build.

That's a big job starting with such a fucked shell. I would have thought it would have been easier & cheaper to get a straight rolling shell than do all of that.

Good on you for the sentiment behind the car.

Thanks heaps for the comments guys this car means alot to me!
As for the spelling LOL sorry bout that was like 4am when i was typing, hey Ken thanks very much for the offer mate but I already have both items but know that I do
truly appreciate the offer.
With regards to the cost of the car, so far as it sits repaired shell and the engine combo it owes me $7,680 so having patience waiting for parts to pop up has paid off!!!
And trust me the car is by no means cosmetically built to my taste but the important thin to me is its identical in every way!!!

Here is a pic of the car as it was before Ash passed away!!

If you are looking to get new headlights because the old ones are fogged up, I highly recommend Mother's Powerball 4lights - used it on my Jimny that had deep scratches and bad oxidisation similar to the typical r33

$70 is much cheaper than a new set of headlights

Oh I meant that ^ I sold the wreck to Gavin who lives down Mandurah way if that's who you got it from. I just had normal headlights though?? Recognized what was left of my old car by that metal bar sitting at the bottom of the bay, had the gearbox tied up to it after I removed the engine.
