Well here is our (Dad, Josh and I) latest toy, returned with welcome arms yesterday afternoon.
Bit of rough history on the car; my old boy purchased the car around the year 1997/8 I think, still running with the grey motor, original glass etc etc, and set about restoring it with some help from Josh and I. We spent our weekends there rubbing back panels and doing odds and sods and after a while it was all trimmed up, built with a hot, bored out 139 grey motor, and diamond white paint.
Dad lapped around in the car for many years and it was pretty reliable but the rust would always rear it's ugly head so it's been stripped back a couple of times to get rid of the skin cancer.
6/7 years ago Dad moved to Gero and had no storage for the EJ anymore so he swapped the car with one of his good mates for a jacked up Sierra on nobblies. The new owner of the EJ had to coax Dad around to his way of thinking as he could see the potential to modify the car and give it a bit more grunt, and 6 years on it's the car it is today, with all the gear I'll list below. Fast forward to last week and the owner popped into Metalcraft as he does regularly for a G'day and he mentioned that he's picked up a Trans Am project and no longer has room for the EJ. Josh took a few hours to think about it, made 2 phone calls (Dad and I) then we checked it out last Friday and said we'd take it. The car holds a lot of sentimental value but is also just a really great cruiser, and fills my void of wanting to get some old school metal (EJ has been my dream car of choice for about 2 years).
That's enough rambling.
Blue 202
Mild head work
Mild cam
Triple SU carbies
Remote booster
HR disc brake front end
R31 LSD rear end (3.9s)
Custom disc brake rear end
2 piece tail shaft
2 x boot mounted N90 batteries
LJ front buckets
Nolathane swaybars
New bushes throughout
Drag Weld 15x4.5 Front
Drag Weld 15x8 Rear (dish!)
Trimatic box
Big stereo, Clarion/Alpine I'm not sure, we haven't even turned it on yet.. DVD screen, splits galore and 2 x 12" subs in the boot
Dash gauges
And probably a tonne of other stuff that I can't remember at the moment. Hopefully I can pull it out of storage on Saturday to give it a big bubble bath, grab some better photos, and take it for a lap up the coast.
The car needs a few little items addressed, things that we are more than happy to tinker with and fine tune to get perfect. Mostly, it just needs to be kept in a dry area and loved on sunny days, and if the skin cancer returns we'll set about repairing it properly.

I always wanted to get an EJ/EH when I was a youngin... She looks pretty sweet. The wheels suit quite nicely to!

Those ideas were always running through my head regarding a new school donk for an EJ, but I'm not sure if I'd put my 403 in it.. With a car of this calibre and how it's likely to end up, given our choice of engines I think we'd probably wind up building an RHS for it and snapping the car in two with some real torque. But anything like that is years and years and years away.. The car has only done about 4-500 miles in over 6 years so while it's still in a good condition and reliable we'd really just like to get some miles on it, enjoy being out in a hassle free car that attracts only positive attention and can be enjoyed without too much stress.
Thanks Mitch! The wheels are fairly staunch, especially given the 31 rear end hangs about 10mm further out than the original.. Stance nation n shit... There are obvious things the police might not like such as the 4.5" fronts to 8" rears but generally in a car like this they stop you for a perve and a chat, not to cause hassles.
Dad really wants to show it off at the Midwest Show in October so hopefully we can get our heads around a few things and drive it up instead of putting it on a truck.

FFFFFFFUUUUUU, work computer wont show pictures! Sounds awesome Dan, ive also always loved EJ's. My Dad owned one when i was young.
Does it have powersteering? The 4.5" fronts would make steering nice and light, wouldnt need powersteering at all.

Nice.. not a big fan of the braided sleeve over dose but love those headlight 'covers'.

Na it doesn't have power steering, and it's pretty heavy with the smaller wheel. When we arrived to first look at it I thought it might still have the front bench, 3 on the tree and the bus wheel but it'd been changed and the bench was binned. It looks pretty trick in there now though, so I'm not too phased.
The engine bay needs a bit of a tidy up, probably relocate the booster to the back or get a commodore one, modify the throttle linkages as they need a tweak, few tiddy biddies here and there. That's how we wanted it though, wouldn't have been any fun if it were all complete and perfect.
*edit*
And we've got a couple of sets of headlight covers :) The meshy type look good too I reckon.

Sweeeet! massive fan of the EJ/H's. Not really a fan of all the tacky shit on it, but im sure you boys will sort it out!
Will have to organise a cruise with my mates EH's and EH limo sometime.

Mitch Rando hey? He's got a nice limo haha :) All the fluffy dice and what not can come straight off, few little badges etc that will be getting removed, the centre console is getting remade in alloy (no surprise there) and a couple of other bits and pieces.. Just lucky it's got good condition chrome, paint, driveline, brakes etc.
I have some plates in mind if we decide to apply for them, but the MH 3445 plates are stamped/engraved into all the original glass which is pretty neato burrito. Except that the old boy damaged one window and broke another during one of the rebuilds ages ago haha.
Thanks for the kind words fellas.

there isnt a midwest show and shine this year, has been replaced with a street parade and burnout comp/mini show and shine. was also going to be street drags but im pretty sure they have been postponed.
ej looks pretty mint tho, engine bay is neat as. looks like it should be a good cruiser.

What a beauty!
I would keep the triples on the 6 or maybe even look at a 6 throttle body setup, Nothing like steel bumpered old cars.

Just got home to enjoy the pictures :) Looks really nice. Love the engine. I was going to do that to a VB Commodore 202 once but have ended up sourcing the parts for a L36 conversion.
I like gauges but i think a more subtle gauge install would look nicer inside. The stereo looks nice but again, just running rears would be more subtle. The center console in the same colour material as the floor would be a nicer touch.
Nice to have the ol girl returned :D

Brilliant car man, only thing I'm not a fan of is the cages over the headlights, the lines of the car are

Thanks lads! I took the car out of storage yesterday to give it a big bath and a cruise.. Only made it a km down the road and it was out of fuel hahahaha. After some messing around, initial panic at a muffed fuel system, then getting some Vortex in it and getting it to the servo for a fill up, it was all good. Spent a bit of time giving it a scrub, and even longer with the chamois making sure I left no drops of water anywhere, it's amazing how much more care you take on a rust-prone old schooler.
By the time all that was done the girly and I popped down to Metalcraft to throw some air in the tyres and shocks, took a couple of snaps, and cruised up the coast, along Safety Bay and up to Rocko foreshore for a feed. By the time we turned around to come home the car was really on song, I think it literally was a case of blowing the cobwebs out. Proof that the car needs to be driven regularly to get the most out of it, she actually really gets up and boogies which is cool.
Driving a ~50 year old car around is a lot different to the SS or hilux though, quite floaty steering but easy enough to get used to none the less. Stereo pumps pretty well, the sub setup need some attention, we think the box might be too small to actually allow the subs sufficient travel to operate.
Anyway, here's a couple of pics, I am a retard though and after not using the camera for a couple of months it had a dirty big smudge on the lens which has pretty much ruined and blurred every photo haha.

Thanks guys, we are all pretty chuffed to have it back. Josh is working flat out at the moment and when he gets a bit of head way we might bring the car down and get stuck into it for a few hours to get a few bits and pieces sorted. I'm just watching the weather for my next opportunity to drag it out :)
