I didn't mind her music, and don't really care how many drugs these people take. I undetstand the points you try to make, but then go to such a level of obscurity to justify your position that it just becomes absurd.

Yes, I feel I can make the comparison between a drug user and a hoon label.
The reasoning for this, is that they are two (lets say "types of people") who have been convicted for something that although hasn't harmed another person, has been deemed illegal.

Both a hoon, and a drug user, have the potential to hurt someone else, so yes, both people could be deemed to be (by everyones definitions) evil. However, they have not neccessarily hurt anyone, yet are still punished for it. There is reason not to generalise these people, because for all you know, they haven't done anything to hurt anyone.

A murderer has hurt someone. There isn't any question of whether or not this person is being generalised. If you call a murderer evil (etc), you're not exactly generalising them. (So long as the person isn't being wrongfully accused for murder.. But lets leave that out for the sake of discussion)

Which is why the hoon/drug addict reference works, and a murderer reference doesn't.

All I'm trying to point out here, which really is the same thing I always try to point out, is an alternative way to look at things. I can't claim to be even nearly morally perfect, but holy shit guys, your attitudes towards other human beings is really sad.

So Ricey, and this might be a bit hyperbolic, but what if your future kid has a depression problem, and through poor decision decides one night to try it and gets hooked, you would show zero sympathy to your own child?

I know it's an obscure hypothetical thing to say, but that's one example of where a level of empathy is needed.

Don't get me wrong, after working for several years in hospitals, I feel that sticking a needle in your arm is akin to signing a Do Not Recussitate form in my eyes, and most normal people should know exactly what doing these sorts of drugs entail. But there are times where innocent people get on the gear either because of their own mental state making them vunerable, or the crowd they're with pressures them into it. You can't label everyone the same way.

You all probably wonder why I get so hung up about not rubbishing on people, and it's because the more you outwardly hate people for who they are and what they do, the worse a person you become. Sure, I might just be farting in the breeze, but I like to at least think that some people are open enough to thinking about people on an individual scale, and not just a generalised opinion of them.

It doesn't take much to not hate a person. A lot of people don't deserve sympathy for their actions, but every person deserves the benefit of the doubt. If you knew her personally, and her actions influenced you directly, then you're probably entitled to a say on the matter. But you don't and they didn't, and it leaves you with very little to be able to justifyably comment on.

You'd be surprised at how many "normal" people have drug addictions, even in this country alone. Walk down Hay St and in five minutes you've probably walked past a dozen people in business suits who get on the gear. Doesn't mean that they all go out and steal each others tv's.

It's not a case of having a 'bleeding heart' or not... Personally, I would have thought that holding a level of empathy with other human beings is you know, a sign of good character and values. But clearly that's something missed in Bible studies.

Alcohol prohibition failed in the 20's, and after over 70 years of drug prohibition, and countless billions spent on it, all that's happened is that more people are dying, drugs are cheaper and are more abundant.

Places like Portugal are the models we should be following. Complete legistation, education and control. It's the only way we're ever going to see any sort of harm reduction. Psychoactive drugs have been used by humans for tens of thousands of years and are ingrained into our history, anyone who thinks that it's a habit we can just stop are pretty misguided.

Where did I say zero tolerance in that post? What I am referring to are all the bullshit 'empathy' excuses bleeding heart pingpingpingpings come up with to justify junkie's drug habits, and spread false message that we should actually feel sorry for them coz it's not their fault, had difficult time, their friends were doing it, yadda yadda yadda, which is why they smoke crack and shoot heroin in their veins. Give me a break!!

Zero tolerance to drugs probably won't ever work. Zero tolerance to stupid excuses for crimes committed by junkies on the toher hand will get us a long way.

Only a drug user backs legalisation. Stronger judicial system is needed, and a prison system that doesnt allow you to gain qualifications, earn money and possessions from the get-go. Punish then rehabilitate.

Dont forget she was famous for singing then becoming drug fucked with a heap of shitty tatt's, there are now bulk chicks out there that thinks its awesome to not brush there hair and go get shitty prison spec tatts for everyone to see, no doubt some will be inspired by Amy to give the drugs a try and potentially become a junkie through this.

It is for this reason that her death needs to be laughed about and so young impressionable minds wont be like, I cant remember her singing but hell, she's famous for getting on the gear and dieing young, I want some attention so i will give that a try but try not too die. Because children are crap and that rediculously impressionable these days.
