So I've never been overseas before and haven't left the state since 1997. Everyone is going to Thailand or Bali at the moment and I want something different to that.
I'm going to sort my passport out and start organising a trip to Japan to see the drifting (if its not affected by floods or uranium).
Would anyone be interested in going, it's just an EOI at the moment as I do need to do my research, any information would help.

I did the DSport Tokyo Auto Salon Tour in January.
Given you have done limited travelling, and you want to go to Japan to see drifting/modified cars etc, I suggest you join a tour.
The language barrier is very hard to overcome in Japan. Unless you know people, it is rather difficult to get in contact with workshops etc and actually get to tracks as taxi drivers no nothing.
Try the Dsport website. 7 days in japan with 1 day at autosalon. also went to top secret, tomei, fuji speedway, actually went drifting with d1 street legal drivers, lots of upgarage and super autobacs stores. went out on the piss. well worth it. there is no chance in hell i could have organised what they did.

PM Streatracer (I think that is his user name on here) He did a trip over there a little while back. Had an absolute ball by the sounds of things.

prices are in $US too :)
on top of that is your spending money.
well worth it if you are going to Japan purely for cars!

I went to Japan for TAS in 2010, organised the whole lot myself, but took a lot of preparation, A LOT. Things are so damn hard to find in Japan sometimes, and the above tours are good for people with one focus in mind (ie cars/drifting).
If you have any general questions about Japan i'm sure I could help though

Myself, streatracer(luke), breno(breno) and 3 others went over last November for 2 weeks for Matsuri, skids and some nights on the piss. Its money well spent if you're into drift!
I think I spent around 5-6 jiggas all up and that wasnt buying a car like the others did. Its not a real cheap place but we werent exactly being stingy either. We had a hire van for the 8 days in Nihonmatsu ( closest town to Ebisu) and stayed in a wicked hotel there. Drifted every day whilst there and then did the Matsuri on the last couple of days there and it was fucking wicked. Also watched some D1SL at Tsukuba which was awesome.
Then headed toward to Shinjuku, Tokyo, Yokohama etc and stayed somewhere different every night for the 2nd week. The place has a pretty 'interesting' nightlife to say the least.
We're going to aim to get there again for the spring Matsuri next year which is around April IIRC. But youve still got 2 Matsuri's left this year if you get real keen!

did you guys go by yourself without a tour? and also if you do go i'd rahter go with some locals from here that have been before, going there and drifting would be the ultimate experience!

They boys used PowerVehicles to buy the cars and sort tyres before we got there, Andy and Emily are very helpful! The rest was up to us. Basically the same as what you linked to though.
We got there early in the week, sorted cars, broke/ fixed them, bought some more and drifted through the week sunup till sundown. Mike did the G1, then we all did matsuri and the EPIC BBQ's that they provide are excellent. Im talking like a whole cow on the spit with super cheap Asahi's. Also free food and drinks after matsuri.
All in all its an awesome trip to do and can accomodate for most budgets if you want to rough it a bit.
