well after my shit run in buying cheap daily's and having them die at the hands of me and my father I decided to go a nice cruising/comfortable car as a daily, and bought it off a family friend so its been looked after.

not much to it so here it is:

2004 VY SS series II
Black
Automatic
Leather interior
twin 3inch catback X-Force exhaust

picked it up for $17, 000 but it has only 66, 000 kms on it
ride height is something that will need attention though

(yes i know there is a chev badge on the back, thats how I bought the car)

There's an easy way to make the twin 3" exhaust suitable-ish.

OTR, extractors, mild cam, stall. Simple process, ~360+rwhp, good street manners, and should net some nice gains on your relatively fresh engine.

Lower it a couple inches and get factory rims sandblasted to get the powder coating off, polish them up...looks schmick!

Do it! :)

well I'm going to cop some grief for this but thought I'd update, VK has been sold as dad needed more room in his shed, building the LS1 for this next time I'm down, specs are as follows:
- LS1
- Bored (10thou), Honed and Decked Block
- Polished crankshaft (1 thou according to machinist)
- Chamfered Oil galleries on crank
- ARP Crank Bolt
- Mahle forged pistons w/rings, gudgeons and spiral retaining clips
- Cam bearings have been installed into block (apparently loctite?)
- Manley H-Beam 6.125" rods
- Balanced engine
- Trex Camshaft 242/248 - .608/.612 - 110 lsa
- Rollmaster double row timing chain
- ARP Cam bolts
- morroso Oil Pump
- Comp Cams Double valve springs (w/comp cams valve stem seal)
- Manley Pushrods (still yet to measure length)
- ARP Head studs
- stock 241 casting heads are still being utilised
- All bearings and new gaskets are being used

- 3500rpm Dominator high stall

It is a cheapish build and I know not many people like the rims but for the moment I'll just get the current ones painted...

Like Dean has said, For the time you have spent doing forged internals it would be a waste of time to put stock heads on it, nothing but good things with the higgins heads

Chompy
27-11-2012, 05:50 PM
as much as I'd like to run higgin's heads the budget would b blown out of proportion, with still maintaining under 5g for the motor build its kept costs down, and the fact of running stock heads the idea is to get good results

but like i said, it could work and it couldn't. will still be an entertaining daily

Fuck yes, loved the idea of the high rise manifold.
Will you be going EZY-EFI (sp?) for it, or Edelbrock, or something else to manage it all?

The HDT hood idea should save a fair few hassles, seeing as mr. Plod disagrees with anything protruding from le hood.

With the motor originally doing 300, 000kms i thought it would be ideal to the rockers, so a set of 1.7:1 Howard's Cams roller rockers were purchased.

And with the manifold the air filter will be protruding the bonnet but being a daily still i needed some sort of scoop to cover it. As many people have got them already but though the hdt retro scoop will be ideal for the application

So stress levels kicked in today, was supposed to get up at 6am to get it ready, sorted and in the back of the ute to be at Performance Unlimited to strap it to the engine dyno, and I woke up at midday.

got there at 2:30 and started to bolt everything up, was continuously running through my head making sure everything was done. finally it started and no knocking or rattling from start-up. 2 run in sequences were done and was getting towards the end of the day so it will get another run in tomorrow then power runs, unfortunately wont be there for it as I fly up to work in the morning.

Was your original comment? Use your brain.
What do you use as a guide when driving a manual car? Do you need to look down at the stick to see wheat position it's in, or do you use your head whilst up/downshifting?

Dad has given me his TH350 out of his corvette so I dropped that off at dimoff's so he is changing the valve body over,
ordered a fibreglass bonnet and 4 inch reverse cowl from Alfa motorsports, I could of gone the steel reverse cowl but thought I'd just get the whole bonnet.
Nitrous kit is purchased, also upgrading to 1-7/8 extractors and 3inch pipes. hopefully this will be better for when it gets retuned.
as soon as I get more dollhairs together I'll drop the car down and get 3.9s and a tru-trac, fitted.

Because its much more convenient to cog from nuetral straight into first and keep going to your taller gears than cogging all the way through them and then back up as you drive.. especially with performance style set up..?

SSZ
18-01-2014, 05:39 PM
For convenience??? Nar dont think so. i would rather have engine braking. and in reverse patten when you pedal it (like in a burnout) it free spins and going from free spining to smashing on the power cant be healthy for any box

i`d much rather have to go back to 1st and then into neutral than the possibility of going to smashing top gear and getting neutral by mistake and over reving it.

pretty sure its only th400's that can free spin depending on valve body. i was pretty sure all glides engine braked, mine does (i`m farily sure, its has been 2 years since ive driven it tho lol) and its reverse pattern.

its also more natural to 'pull' gears than to push to go up cogs.

Race cars with reverse pattern and no transbrake are pointless, faedy. Only reason for having reverse pattern is to accommodate a transbrake I. A case that otherwise wouldn't allow for one, aka the C4.
In. Street car there is nothing worse than reverse pattern. Yes I have had one, I now have a forward pattern auto & it's much more convenient/natural IMO as well.

esky
20-01-2014, 01:26 PM
Reverse pattern works the same as a zf shifter. i.e pull back for a higher gear, it's much more natural.

Carparks and 3 point turns etc are much better with reverse pattern. r-n-1 two shifts of leaver is much easier then r - n -3-2-1 then back up again to reverse etc etc.

Its worse when you got no power steering and end up doing 5 point, plus rowing through gears. xd is forward c4 and its crap.

I already had the turbo so was the kit minus turbo, still the billet bw.

The manifolds that were made had the crossover run under the balancer and across the alternator so didn't allow for air cond.
Also the turbo flange was drilled to m12 and couldn't put a stud in the flange as the merge into the flange was too close and couldn't get a bolt in

Motorvation was a lil bit fun, ran into a few dramas but come back sunday, fitted a new alternator and thoroughly enjoyed the day!
First time getting some good wheel time out of it was a bit daunting but enjoyed it immensely

I'm very much not a commodore fan, especially considering their numbers at motorvation, but i love this car, it's hell tough and the rims are an awesome choice, looks better on them than it would on some bling 20s that's for sure.
awesome build dude

Rims are awesome to steer with, so much easier to keep her straight with the 165's
