I'm keen to organise a trip down south to Dardanup,Harvey,Brunswick kinda area in the 4b's, i dont know the area all that well so unless someone else is wanting to lead i was just gonna follow the Louge Brook to Harvey route in the 4wd Days Out Of Perth book.
This is a very tame route but given the amount of rain recently there will still be a bit of mud about and there is always side tracks that can be a bit more challenging.
Date is open to suggestions but i am lookin to do it in 3-4 weeks time so should be plenty of notice for those wanting to come along.
Everyone with a 4wd is welcome, as i said the track is pretty tame so long as you dont mind getting ur vehicle dirty then you wont have any trouble.
Only requirement is that you have at least one recovery point. Just in case, i am happy and confident enough to snatch anyone out of a puddle but I will not do it if it cannot be done safely. So either a proper rated front recovery point or a reece hitch or a tounge type towbar with the tow ball itself removed for a rear recovery.
A UHF either in car on hand held is always helpful as well.
So who's keen and when?
mike
Yeah I'm keen, I'll take the Old mans Challenger out for a bash Im a little touch and go with dates, but give some options and Ill try and suit!

That would be awesome if you could Dan, i'm studying my Tracks and Trails book at the mo trying to work out a route and have PM'd the dude who lead the Dardanup->Brunswick run last weekend on Perth4x4 to see if he is willing to share any of his knowledge.
I'm keen to hit some more challenging stuff but so long as everyone can get through or around it should be cool.

Could be pretty keen, are you thinking day trip or a night camping as well?
mr_mike, the run your mentioning that the guys from Perth4X4 did last week, is that the Hellfire trail they were talking about?

Nah as far as i know Hellfire is Steelys secret track somewhere not to far from metro area.
There is a couple pics posted of the Dardanup to Brunswick trip tho looked pretty muddy.

keen for a day trip, but can i suggest minimum A/T tyres?
mr_mike
08-07-2011, 07:46 PM
yeh might be a big greasy for HT tyres, tho depends where we end up going, i have heard the 4wd Days Out of Perth trip you can pretty much do in a 2wd vehicle.

What do you have in mind for this trip? ie difficulty level?
I'm keen to know more about the destinations you have in mind. Harvey etc can be pretty darn difficult. Will I be the only one keen to dent stuff? Or we going to be looking at wildflowers and "scenery" while enjoying the clear country air and commenting on how dark it is when everyone tunes off their lights?

To be honest Shane i really dont know where we going i'm still trying to gather info and sus that out.
I can assure you i will be more than keen to try the harder stuff and am not shy about smashing panels as i am looking for an excuse to cut the back end up and make my patrol a dual cab.
Atm i am just using the Louge Brook to Harvey day trip as a rough guide on direction i wanna head.

there was a land rover forum trip a couple of weeks ago, they required a front and rear tow point, and minimum A/T tyres, and that kept them outta trouble on some pretty difficult looking tracks.

Been studying my Tracks and Trails book and have a rough direction worked out. I have no idea what these tracks are like in my book they are marked as "minor trails" so this means uneven single lane.
General idea is we will go from Dwellingyup head north east before looping around and heading south east cross over Pinjarra Williams rd and following tracks till we hit the Murray river, then follow the Murray river back up North East towards Baden Powell and finishing in Dwellingyup.
Estimating about a 200km trip from Dwellingyup but will have a closer estimate once i map it out properly what tracks to take.

I done the dwellingup trip last week, pretty much straight out of the 4wd days out of perth book. Its very wet and slippery there at the moment, some good tracks oppisite baden powell day use area too

Cant remember what it was called in the book off the top of my head, my mate had the book and was just following his directions.
Basically just started off on Dingo road onto the fawcett track (can also get on via Dawn Creek rd), and followed that up the river checking out other tracks along the way for a good couple of hours worth
Then before we left did the tracks oppisite Baden Powell area, there easy to see from the main road.

I'd be keen to bring the suzuki out if its as tame as you're suggesting
It's the missus daily so bending panels would be the end of me.

we did captain fawcetts last sunday and had some decent mud sections but mostly single trail gravel roads. found some cool camping spots along the murray. stopped at logue brook for a look around and its so low :(

Yeh I'm not all that keen on deep water crossings anyway, petrol engine and no snorkel so I do try to avoid them

Ahh don't be scared!!
This is the level of Pascoe Rd crossing now... Will be lower if the rain holds off by the time this trip hits it's straps...

Keen as fuck to head out with a group. but 2/1 makes it hard to plan anything. im home on the 27th of this month
mr_mike

i might be heading down to Harvey with the Patrol club on the 31st so thinkin i will log their trip then repeat it early next month.
Least that way I will know where to go and hopefully lead a good trip rather than blindly lead a group into the bush.
