I'm looking for getting a decent daily.
and the prices of demo cars are quiet convincing for some cars.

what are the Cons and Pros off it?
some that i know,

Pros:
Cheaper then new car thats for sure
Could negotiate more with the dealer, as they are keen to moving it out.

Cons:
Is a bitch, many people had already laid their hands on it.
Trashed and treated badly by people which whom believes that they are THE STIG

Any personal experience and advices from any of you that bought demo car from a dealership would be great!

Thanks!

pro: its on the lot and available - a lot of decent cars can have long wait times

I wouldnt really worry about the other people driving it, you'll still have warranty, but can take away some of the mystique of buying a new car.

As mentioned, the best pro is the pricing, but this is dependent a lot on the car.

Money saved can go towards mods.

I'd never buy a brand new car the money you save with a demo is worth the 3000km's the car already has on it.

We picked up our 'demo' with 74km on the clock and saved 2.5k and a six week wait (based on two other dealers best quotes)

Have done 12 000km and no issues

Once you know what you want jump on google and email every dealer you can find

Picked up an 08 Mazda 3 with 6grand on the clock.
Done nearly 40,000kms on it since then, not a single hiccup.

Just make sure it's not an ex press car.

Journos aren't exactly kind to them. ;)

most demos arnt really "thrashed" they are generally driven in the area of the dealership or to and from persons home for a month or so...

after working at dealerships i would not hesitate to buy a dmo... massive savings and bonus with tint/ upgrades..

+1 for demo

Got my GT as a demo with 74k's on the clock and saved around 10k and had leather seats, optional steering wheel and stickers. Although it was a 06 build purchased in 07

Main Pro I have noticed is that most demo's have been optioned up with all (or at least most) of the options. Rarely ever pay for any of these when it comes to point of sale.

Would also check condition of wheels, tyres, and would also get a wheel alignment done if you do purchase it (or negotiate it in with sale) - just judging from what I have seen happen on vehicle test drives...

You always pay for the accesroies, they dont just become free because they are a demo, a real cost is there somewhere!

The same car would be cheaper without them....

better yet, tell us what car specifically you are lookign for, and ill point you in the right direction...

What I was told was that, it apparently had $3.4k of accessory's and options and price was only up $1k (but then again, Im taking the car salesman's word on this - not sure how good that is :) ) - They had no other demo to compare it too.

PS: Car was a cheaper compact car - not a high end car (Honda Jazz)

Demos are usually optioned up with all or most of the extras as others have said. I work for a dealership and depending on what your looking for sometimes worth looking in the used section as well. For example we have an ex holden car so technically a demo car but cause it's done more kms then what one of our demos would have (for example 13,000km instead of the under 3,000km on a demo) it's around 10k cheaper then a demo/new but you would still be listed as the first owner and have 2x warranty's new and used. Just another option to consider. Most dealerships have these options in their used car section aswell.

No, thats incorrect, Its a used car, you are the second registered owner.

The only cars elegible to be called demos are ones licenced by the dealership from new to demonstrate them. Not holden Factory press cars - that they call factory demos, these are most certainly used cars.

Thanks guys! will have a word with the sales man today, and see if i can score a nugget out of them.

my thought that, demos is similar to 2nd hand car though lower k's
i'll try to get extended warranty as well for my piece of mind ;)

if the the question was asked about the car being press car, would the dealer tell the truth though?

Probably not, but as mentioned, the kilometres would be a lot higher than a typical demo - press cars usually finish their life over 8-9000km.

Easy way to check is ask to see the books and regos. Dealer car goes in company name whilst factory demo/press car would be under the manufacturers name.

Demos are sold out of the new car lot, if its a factory demo/press car they are normally sold out of used cars...

Check the tread of the tyres and the brakes. That is all I am saying...

Buy second hand low km example, like last years model. At least you won't loose as much money on it. Demo cars get a hiding, they are normally loan cars for the service department or cars for people that work at the dealership. They get driven hard

Well we must do things differently at our dealerships as these cars are unregistered at present and have not yet been registered. So when bought they will be registered straight into new owners name therefore technically they are the first owner.

Are they Holden Factory cars form over east? They come unlicenced, they are put over the pits and re registerd.

I did not stutter

No need to get your panties in a bunch. I was misinformed by our wholesaler. I spoke to the other guys about it just now and you are right. I can admit when i'm wrong.

Do not ever buy a dealer used Mazda. Chances are it has been through the 'Does it have a limiter?' test by this mad bloke.

Just depends what sort of car it is. At our dealership, yes the demo cars are driven by the new car salesmen, new car manager, dealer principal, aftercare manager and business manager (finance). Depending on what type of car depends on how its treated, from what i've seen. Some get driven normally, but get dirty (no problem there), others get thrashed or taken offroad. End of the day, they are cheaper for almost the same thing, with full warranty.

Dealership demo and factory demo, I would buy either way. As with the ones from over east etc, atleast they carry the full factory warranty, which is good on Mitsubishis etc as you get the 10 year drivetrain warranty, not just the 5 year, or balance of (if buying just used).

Oh, and dont think that new cars are always 'new' ;) have seen a few get damaged, and sold as new...
