Hey guys,
I've got my mind set on starting my electrical apprenticeship asap. I'm hoping that I can start my pre-apprenticeship TAFE course this semester if there is spots still available before classes start.
Can anyone give me any tips or even leads to potential companies which might be looking at hiring me as an apprentice? I'm 21 years old, been working in construction for 2.5 years and I have my EWP and confined space working tickets. I'm a hard worker, eager to learn and would give it my absolute best to get the most out of my experience.
Would like to get the ball rolling asap so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

I'd start with eletrical group training, would be your best bet. I think Western Power are also currently taking applicants. It's hard as fuck to find private apprenticeships in plumbing/gas fitting or eletrical at the moment, they get snapped up very quickly.

My housemate works for a company called NECA, they do job placement and shit like that for Apprentice Electricians, give em a call.
Telephone: 1300 NECA WA (6322 92)

It's always hard to find a private apprenticeship unless you know someone that works there already.. And even harder if your 21 as you get paid more than the 16-17 year old muppets. Do your pre app as they all want that as a minimum these days then try egt or some place like that.

When i did mine I was 20 and applied to 30 places and only got two job interviews and no job out of it until my mate got me in where he was working

I'm working as an apprentice atm & I've heard a lot of bad things through a number of tradies and supervisors that I've worked with over the last year about egt.

Good luck with job searching will let you know if my company is on the look out!

yeah I've heard the same thing but i know a few people who have worked for them for a little while. Its means to an end. Do it just to get the ball rolling and continue looking for private stuff.

I've heard mixed reactions about EGT, have a friend with them at the moment working on the new skyscraper for a huge company, he's a 4th year and gets paid about 1k a week. Another person got a job for Downer through them as well.

But then a few guys at tafe have nothing but bad things to say about them, which is what turned me off going there. Apparently if you whinge about being somewhere they'll send you to a place that's further and further from home this is what they did to the lecturer's son.

I guess if you turn out to be useless they will treat you that way so you quit

I don't know what the obsession is with treating under paid, over worked apprentices like shit. Lowest income and hardest/shittiest jobs are bad enough as it is lol...

EGT will get you in the door, all depends on your host contractor to how well your treated, work is, pay rates.

I was a EGT apprentice, came out of my time a bit over a year ago, i cant really complain, i started with a pretty sweet host contractor in commercial and industrial did my whole apprenticeship with them and are still working for them.

EGT left me alone for the most of it, just the odd field officer visit to see how your going and if your happy with your host placement( want to move around the industry etc) EGT's base wages are average, if you get in with a decent host contractor that pays EBA and other allowances your laughing.

NECA and EGT are pretty much the same thing Electrical Group Training comes under NECA (National Electrical and Communication Association) and CET is there private colleges for your off the job training side of apprenticeship
