Flex in Hub/Spindle/Brake Anchor/Front upright assembly would be my guess

been meaning to ask about this for a while now...

ive got 'wear' marks on the inside of my front rims.
it has something to do with the brembos (6 pot monoblocks) i have deducted.

at first i thought it was rubbing somewhere, but there is about 4mm clearance (between closest part of caliper and the internal edge of the rim).

one of the rims has wear all around the inside edge, the other has it about half way around.

is this a case of caliper expansion due to a lot of heat, flex due to aggressive braking, or just contaminents (ie: rocks, etc) getting caught on the caliper and rubbing on the inside of the rim?

hmmm will be pretty much impossible to get ride of that :( ... or is it?

if it is the above, would the temporary rubbing cause any issues?

This thread is starting to confuse me......

Tocchi, has it actually marked the paint on the caliper as well? Its not something as silly as some track litter (ie bits of rubber) getting between the rim and caliper and leaving a mark?

TOcchi

get the grinder, skim a little bit of the brakes.
to give a little extra clearance.

rims expands,
brake expands

but when you skim the rims - it will be unbalance.
so cut alittle on the brakes.

few mm doesnt hurt. only cosmetic :)

maybe there is a pile of sand caught between the caliper and the inner side of the rim ?

Not Sure if SRS?

Tochi, They look like Black marks,

Rubbing Calliper will take off paint on both Caliper and rim, If there isnt any bare metal on both then im going with track debris getting stuck between the rim and the caliper.

Also think of how fast your Wheel assembley will rotate under brakes or peak load, Marks would go all the way around.

4mm is a lot of room to move, there is easily half that amount of clearance on my brakes to rim and i have no touching..

given the black marks im thinking its bits of rubber getting in there, the calliper catching the rip would remove paint, not leave a black mark..

fuck this shit forum bug is making this topic hard to read.

the black marks, they are brake dust stuck in the very shallow light grooves... i havent seen any wear marks on my calipers.
the grooves are about under 1mm deep, and arent the same width on each caliper, which is making me think it's a case of foreign material, as if it was the caliper rubbing on rim -- it would be indentical marks.

im thinking it could be stones or sand caught in there, as last time i did go pretty deep into the side of cat after my tyre let go (not bogged, just went over sand). ... might have to keep an eye on it next event. (pending not going off track).

Put chalk on the rims where you think it will rub, Will show any fresh makrs after each outing.

Why does 3 of the 5 stud holes look weirdish?

will give that a go next event -- maybe "touchup" paint on parts of caliper that i think might rub? as in high spots? so if that's rubbed off... etc

yeah no shit aye :-/
