Some of you will know me, some wont, my other car is a 2006 VZ Maloo (VZ 23 WA) with cage, cam etc. well ive grown bored of that for the moment and started on a track/tarmac rally car. Had its first event on the 19th June as a stock car for which i know what it was like and now to improve on it.

MAKE: SUBARU
MODEL: GC8 WRX STi
ENGINE: EJ207 TURBO
GEARBOX & FINAL DRIVE: 4.11 CLOSE RATIO 5-SPEED
BRAKES: STOCK
RIMS: STi 16"
TYRES: KUHMO KU36 215/45/R16
MODIFICATIONS: 3inch TURBO BACK EXHAUST

As i've finished the hill climb, its time to strip it all down and start getting it prepped for the cage and all suspension/brake and engine mods. If anyone has any advice or anything like that I'm open to suggestions.

Todd

Nice one!

What sort of events are you looking at entering?

Sanctioned events that require your car to meet a certain specification under the rules, or just building it to do No Limits, Hillclimbs, AHG, etc etc?

Chompy

building it to the CAMS M2 regulations so hopefully targa west and all that

Tocchi

BALISTC can do HSD range so hit him up for a price on some coilovers and if you want some good brakes i can do you a good deal :)

Ive been told he does the HSD range, and I need new rotors and pads (dont believe i can put bigger rims or brakes on as the class restricts the size of rim)
so ill definately be sending you a PM

Have you checked what the full M2 regs are?

Chompy
23-06-2011, 10:01 AM
can upgrade injectors, run an aftermarket ECU as long as it fits within the original housing (ie ViPEC will fit), exhuast is unrestricted from turbo back,
can run whatever boost, intercooler has to be standard

^^^^ With the recent move of Octagon (Targa Tas) back to CAMS I would stay tuned on some possible changes to the regs to bring them in to line with the Octagon run events. For example, E85, intercoolers free, rim increase 2" in either direction etc etc. If you can afford to hold off for a little while you migth save yourself doing it twice.

Although that said, there is no guarantee they will fall into line, and if they do, it wont be likely to happen overnight. But safe to say a car built to M2 regs wont be competitive at Targa Tas if you even plan to head east.

Turbo swap?
how about later model intercoolers from the same model etc?

Bit of an update,
booked in for the 23rd of august for ViPec ecu @ Allstar garage, Have full confidence there.
Interior is getting pulled out when I get back from work and getting it prepped to remove as much weight as I can,
I'll be upgrading the brakes and also the suspension with coil overs, heavier duty strut towers and a H-brace

just an update on the progress so far. computer and tune has been done, got 234.4 hp @ all 4 hubs at AllStar garage.

first time ive ever properly had a go on the track with the car running properly and I got a 1'10.5 on the long barbagello's track, 58.54seconds on the short track, this was on Khumo KU36's.

Entered the shannons one day classic rally (with Tocchi as Co-driver) and out a field of 40 cars we placed 15th overall and 10th in the 4WD category. here are some pictures and a small video

Antilift kit will do wonders to the handling, however for tarmac rally its not legal. Food for thought.

Franz is 100% correct but unless you are going to finish in the top 3 (a legitimate non cheater GC8 will not finish in the top 3 at targa west) then I would not worry about it and install it.

Dont worry about installing the roll centre kit. I reckon they are rubbish. My understanding is that Jamie Lister took his out of his GC8 aswell.

For a stock seat there not too bad, not as light as racing buckets obviously but I'd throw the money at suspension/swaybars and brakes first.

PS. my 6 pots will fit under your 16's. Buy them so I can go bigger.

Have a look at you ride heights as it will make a massive difference to the cars geometry and understeer/oversteer. Speak to a specialist in Rally etc as at a glance (hard to tell from pics) the ride height is too low. GC8's really react to changes in the ride height.

Chompy
27-09-2011, 04:55 PM
It's fairly high when stopped, just it needs all the swaybars upgraded, I adjusted the camber in the front and she understeers a lot less now, I was quite surprised how a little adjustment changes it.

as some of you may or may not know I crashed it into the barrier at the McRae rally sprint the other night with dad co-driving for the first time and also his first time in a car racing event like that (he has drag raced before but in the 90's), honestly I thought his reaction would be "you idiot', but he laughed so that helped my spirits.
New rolling street registered shell has been purchased and I'll removd the sound deadening from that and the cage installation/fabrication will begin, so Version II will be starting soon, here are some pics and video's from the night.
