Hi guys,

Getting a company ute, we have our eyes on a VY SS ute - auto.

I had a couple of questions, firstly is there a way you can get the trans ecu reprogrammed for increased line pressures and changed shift points for firmer/better shifts but trigger this mode with a external switch?- like you can switch between engine maps with a aftermarket computer. There will be times id like a firmer shift, but others not so much.

Secondly, can you do the same thing with engine maps.... have a tuned map/trans setting and switch back to a factory map at will. Or do the ECU's need to be flashed every time?

Any guidance appreciated

Cheers

to answer your questions in order:

yes, but use the power button. though a shift kit can also do it, but then you tend to leave the factory programming alone unless you want brutal shifts.

Kind of.....

with the last one, the factory tune cant switch between 2 different maps on the fly. UNLESS you get a modified factory ecu that has 2 memory chips onboard, this is only a recent development in the past 12-18 months.

but you need to switch it around with the ignition off.

Thanks, that is exactly what i was looking for.

Do you know how much these run for?

well the hardware is a swapover with your current ecu and whatever sideshow charges. (you can either buy an ecu outright or send in yours for moding)

tuning wise, well personally i dont think it should be any extra as you could leave the factory tune in say position 1 and run a maf tuned version in position 2. or the same mafless tune in both positions but with firmer shifts, higher rpm cut etc on the 2nd position.

options are limitless to what you wanted to be different.

seeing as your work for mechanical business, you could always buy efilive (http://www.efilive.com) and learn how to it yourself.

I like the idea of having a valet mode tune in the car.

That is the way its normally done, but you could easily rewire it to use a hidden external switch rather than the factor "power" button. Handy in a company ute, keeps the monkeys from thrashing it (well maybe a little)

If you're interested, an ex-workmate is an auto-spark at a holden dealer, does heaps of LSx tuning, performace mods, even builds autos in his spare time. Would be happy to tune it for you & sort out a switch. PM me if you want details.

Cool mate, thanks for that.

We put a deposit on a VZ SSV, 2005, 74k and clean as a whistle owned by a middle aged bloke.... for 19.5k.

Will wait till i get it and get it insured etc before looking to mods, but will PM you nvious
