Thanks for all the good feedback everybody, my previous thread on another forum spanned over two and a half years and was 80 pages long.. so what's in here is only a little simplified snippet. I hope you get the gist, any bits I didn't cover well just ask and I can go into more detail!
My original aim was just a simple cruiser/thrasher but over the past couple of years I have changed that. I'm happy to have something a little different and it seems to get a lot of compliments.
I've been waiting to see a showcase on this car, does a nice skid!
Did you build the motor your self? and more pics please!
I picked sourced all the parts but the credit for assembling the motor goes to my mate Chris, I don't trust my self with expensive bits. He's had a lot of experience with these engines and his knowledge is invaluable.
I love it.
Is this referred to as a 'charger sedan' on a plaque in the glove box?
(memories of our first car when we landed in Aus)
Not quite a Charger mate, this is just a basic Valiant sedan, this was the poverty pack model as such and not a very desirable car when standard. You can see in the early pics that it originally had rubber floor etc. No carpet or luxuries, very basic. An Aussie Charger are all two doors, and you're correct, they do say Charger Sedan in the glovebox, whereas this one used to say Valiant Sedan.
Awesome ride dude! How's the paint on the rear 1/4's holding up to the rubber abuse?
Thanks mate, not too bad surprisingly, the car had a narrowed 9" in it so with standard tires the belts miss the rear quarter panels pretty good due to the rims sitting quite far inside the guards. The whole underside of the car is coated in rubber though ha ha.
She's getting a new diff built as we speak, due to the size of the new rims and tires going on, with 'stockies', they will probably sit inside the rear guards almost a foot, haha.
I've got a lot of updates still to come, I'm in the process of having some major work done to the car, lots of work to go and dollars to spend. Will try and get some pics up soon. Hopefully it changes the way she looks dramatically! Had quite a few positive comments already..
Cheers for now

As for leeway with older cars, I think that is fairly true. You stand a lot more chance getting an old or even young cop who appreciates a nicely restored old school muscle car than a techy new plastic car.

318 inlet ports are the same size as 360?
Charger
15-06-2011, 01:21 PM
My engine is a 318 block fitted with 360 heads. The inlet ports on a 360 are obviously bigger than a 318. When I ordered this manifold I had to get the runners on the manifold modified to fit my intake ports due to them being larger than usual, depending on the head casting some are better than others in terms of size. My 360 heads have had quite a bit of port work though.
This won't pose much drama bolting onto a 318, but I would ask the question as to why you'd put a supercharger like this onto an engine with choked 318 heads to begin with. Hope this clears it up?
Cheers

I'll put my money on 8/71 on methanol. If that is the case, you're gonna have ALOT of fun :) The 8/71 on my hotrod is running barely any overdrive, and it is absolutely off tap. That's on pump fuel too, with baby cams and tune atm. Lights up at any speed, and the sound is hot.
10/71 would require relocated dizzy, which is a fair bit of fuck around.

Hey thanks everybody
As with any fair sized project things always get delayed here and there, here's some of the latest updates
Recieved recently from the US:
Strange adjustable coilovers
QA1 springs
Competition Engineering Ladder Bar Kit
Box tube rear crossmember and bracketry to mount coilovers and ladder bars
Upon opening the boxes it turns out one of the ladder bars were missing... bugger! So I have a new one coming express soon.
Diff housing is in the diff shop being straightened and narrowed, and the axle bearing ends welded on. She's a short sucker, only 1180mm wide axle flange to axle flange hehe :) Currently waiting on Competition Engineering stud kit for the diff centre before much can happen..
Mcdonald Bro's 6 point cage hopefully in the mail finally after being delayed because the guy was in hospital.
Ordered my front wheels, Weld RT-S the same as the rear, 18" x 8" with black anodised centre, few weeks wait on those too
Will have to get some progress pics of the car up, she's been chopped up nicely as the tub work is partway done, the chassis subframe connectors are almost done, the rear box tube crossmember is almost fitted up.
If you've got me as a friend on Facebook you have probably seen the pics of the rims underneath the car now, not sure if I've put them in this thread yet though as I can't see on the work PC.
Will keep yas in the loop if you want
Cheers

Thanks everybody, yes, the old '318' has since retired... in a big way!!
I blew the side of the block out, a piece the size of a dinner plate, in the finals at Summernats... she was going so hard too, finally got the tune and all the gremlins sussed out... everybody there agreed she was on song.
But it was simply too much for the standard block, with the 4" stroke, large overbore and around 20psi for good measure, she head to let go, I knew it was going to happen eventually. Luckily I managed to get heaps of wheeltime in the shortspace of the new build, I burned up at least 400 litres of Methanol at Summernats, what a fucking blast that show was. Definitely going next year. It's an incredible feeling cruising your own car around, and to me, this thing feels powerful as, like almost on the verge of crazy, just awesome.
So as soon as I get back from work, I'll be ripping the motor out and getting started on the new build, you can bet one thing, she's gonna piss on the old engine. Let us know if you're keen to see.

Well guys I haven't been hiding or been slack, just busy doing a bit here and there on the car. The front end is basically all fitted now which is good. It involved a bit of cutting and grinding but it fitted pretty well. It's a hell of a lot lighter than the old thing and far more stiffer, plus it looks great.
I'll give yas some pics of the progress
First things first I finished off the painting of the front K frame and control arms etc. First thing to fit were the lower control arms.

Then it was time to rip out the old K frame, upper and lower control arms, torsion bars. Steering box was already removed.
I didn't get a before pic of the old frame but I'm sure ya all know what they look like. You can kinda see it in this mock up pic of the new Wilwood master cyl.

You don't realise how crappy and heavy it all is until you rip it out, long overdue...

All ripped out and only the torsion bars to come out next.

Gave the front rails a bit of a tickle, cut off unnecessary brackets etc. Welded up a few holes and repainted.

Time to chuck in the new frame assembly, I did everything by myself so it was a little difficult getting it in but I managed. It uses the four large factory bolts and two through the old shock tower. Even though it doesn't have the steering fitted you can see how much room we have now.

Nothing really extraordinary mate.
It's been sitting dormant since around last November. Last thing I had done was the new headers and pipes, bit of a squeeze but they turned out great.
Will probably make another start on the car early next year or so.
Got some pics of the pipes and the mods to make them fit if anybody's really interested.
Thanks
Mike
