Gday Boys, Girls.
Well ive been a long time watcher, attending cruises etc. Bought this new car late last year, so thought id put up a thread on what ive done to it since! Enjoy.
Shes a 95 R33 GTR V Spec i bought from Sydney without a motor as i was building one to drop in. The history of the car, it was a Track car in Sydney by the old owner, couple of low mount twins, E85 etc. Time was for him to build a 34 Track car so this had to go!
I bought it with:
Brembo F40 Front brake kit (6pot)
Trust Dual entry intercooler
Twin nitrous bottle setup, complete with bottle warmers, purge etc
Line lockers setup to rears for some reason...
Bride drivers seat.
Anyway, I was already building a RB26/30 for this GTR, the motor is slowly coming along, being an apprentice still wages arent good, but i have been patient up until now! Bought my RB30 Short motor from Spool Imports in QLD last year sometime, Forged with CP pistons, spool rods etc. Soon after i bought a 2nd hand head, off the same bloke i bought the car off! RB26 head, clearanced for the HKS 280 Pro cams it came with, in the process of saving up still and finishing off the head with valves etc. Plenty of aftermarket parts to buy still, plans are to run it with high mount twins, but things could change.
Forged RB30

Well i bought it, after a couple of months sorting out transport of a car without a motor, things were set in place, and it was on the way! It arrived on the 23rd of December in Perth, just in time for my own Christmas Present!
First day home

Custom Boot install. Old motor wasnt slow either!
http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/MattsR33/R33%20GTR/NitrousSysteminboot.jpg
Once i got it in the shed, i basically removed all of the Nitrous lines, bottles, Electronic side of things, cleaned up alot of the wiring under the dash. Put CD player back into dash, along with storage tray to neaten it up. (A/C is in the center console) After the interior was up to scratch, i started on the engine bay, front of car, removed EVERYTHING from the engine bay, All wiring, lights, booster cylinders, brake lines etc. Some may know, Nissan didnt spray the engine bay the same colour as the outside, it was like a matte dull colour. Didnt like it, so got it sprayed same colour as the exterior :D
Before
http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/MattsR33/R33%20GTR/BeforeRespray.jpg
Afterwards, Couple holes filled in etc
http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/MattsR33/R33%20GTR/Enginebaysprayed.jpg
Have started to piece back together the engine bay now, Hiding all of the wiring, cleaning etc to make it neat. In the mean time, i bought a GTR wing, didnt like a duck tail wing on a GTR
http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/MattsR33/R33%20GTR/GTRwingcomingalong.jpg
I had some spare cash laying around, and while the R34 GTR rims are nicer then standard items, i didnt like them! Me and Daveo (Blue 32R) went up to JPC to check out there rim selection, found some that i fancied. Was unsure on side and offset side, so had to test fit Daves Volk CE28s as they were pretty close to the size.
Daves CE28s
http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/MattsR33/R33%20GTR/DavesCE28son.jpg
Once its got a motor in, lowered etc size should be gooood! 2 days later, i had them and test fitted on the car
Work Emotion XD9. All rims are 18x10 +18

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/MattsR33/R33%20GTR/NewRimsXD9s.jpg
Thats where it sits at the moment, im itching to drive it, so there should be some updates fairly surely. Rego is going to be difficult, but nothing a permit cannot fix!
Im pushing for it to be done for Powercruise this year (Pending cash) At the moment plans are for some low mounts, small head work etc just to get it running, hopefully rego'd etc.
Hope you like!
Matt :)
very nice man, will be interesting to see this get completed
if you need a pair of temp turbos to run the motor in, i may be selling my -7's and all the twin turbo associated gear in a few months :D

i love 33 GTR's... polish your headlights though!
are you getting the cradle to run the AWD sump?
edit - just realised this was the one from the nissan hotness thread with the S3 lights and splitters..needs S3 lights again. ;)

Cheers Guys!
oz, Mate if you will be selling them, ill certainly be keen. Let me know when / if you do sell
magic1, Well im not too sure how picky they are going to be when regoing, They will probablly pick things like coilovers, Rim size maybe, Depends how hard they look, 30 bottom end engine number not matching. Everything else should be ok im hoping
Mitchy, Yeah mate this is the same one as the hottness thread, id love to get some S3 lights for it again, but i need to get it running first haha. Im itching to drive it! And yeah, i do have the AWD Adaptor already, came from Pro Engines i believe.

nom nom nom very nice.
rear linelockers and nitrous for a track car?
maybe he also raced it at the drags then, would explain it, linelocker for on the brakes and then nitrous for the race?
do you have a closeup of the brakes? interested in what f40 brakes look like :D

Very nice Skyline mate, will be an absolute weapon & and ball to drive!
Any reason on the RB30 bottom end??
TheChad
01-06-2011, 07:36 PM
Any reason on the RB30 bottom end??
torque. the old limiting factors of rb30 bottom ends not being able to rev like their 26 counterparts have been remedied and they can now offer the same rev range with more displacement, therefore more torque, more airflow=more boost or a bigger turbo etc.
arabs be lovin this shit.
RH8 GTR
01-06-2011, 07:38 PM
Cheers :)
Yeah im not too sure what else he did with the car, he did say he had got a 10.9 at the drags before, so maybe thats whats thats about! Ill upload a pic i have of the F40 front brakes, Rotors are pretty stuffed but you will get the idea!
Cheers ForgedV6, I cannot wait to drive it! Well at the start, i did plan on using a Big single huffer, but as time went on (Already purchased the 30) I went from single, to a set of high mount set of twins (3037s or soemthing). Ill change the turbo setup once the motor is ran in, cars running sweet etc!

coil overs wind them up & put them to soft.
Rims, plenty of std stuff floating around to borrow.
put low mounts on to start with.
engine number, just delclare it, DPI are use to these cars having diff numbers.
yeah you wont have a problem with an rb30 in there in terms of dpi but you may have bonnet clearance issues unless you modify the engine mounts so the engine sits lower :)

nice build up!
F40's are 4pots btw...
Im amazed how small thte R34 rims look on a 33, XD-9's look bombed
RH8 GTR
01-06-2011, 08:03 PM
Yeah thats the plan, make it look half like a stocker, until it passes! Shouldnt have too many dramas really!
Well apparently the RB30s just have enough cleanance in 33s, in 32 it fouls on the bonnet, so heres hoping it dosent! haha
Probablly the best picture i have of the front brakes. OD of brake Rotor is 328mm

good to see you've stripped it to clean it all up, will be easy to maintain its cleanlyness now.
Daves rims look brilliant on his 32, I dont think they suit the 33 well, perhaps because its suck a big car, maybe its the colours im not sure, it just doesnt have the same appeal :S, the XD9's in that colour look a treat tho!

04-06-2011, 06:42 PM
Cheers Fellas!
Yead id agree bangn! As soon as i put Daves rims on the car, i did like it, but thats because it had fail offset spec 34 GTR rims on it, which looked tiny on it. I was looking for dark coloured rims, silver on silver / chrome dosent suit in some cases!
Awesome. Good luck with it.

Shes getting there slowly!
This is what the engine bay looked like when i bought it. There was no way i was having a car with a bay that looked anything like this!!

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/MattsR33/R33%20GTR/P9230382.jpg
Had no idea where anything went, but knew it could be done!
This is how it looks now, it needs a few more little things done, but much happier!
Me and the help of Chargers soldering skills we managed to hide all of the wiring under each side of the guards, so gets that out the way! :D Most things should be out of site at least.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/MattsR33/IMAG0403.jpg
Finally can roll the car around now... Been sitting for months not being able to wash it.
And no its not running yet :p
Have got some new treads for the XD9s, Havent really heard a great deal about them, so thought id see how they perform! They are Nitto INVO 265/35s.
Saved up abit of coin, did plan to get the RB26 head CNC ported, but to my surpise i found out that the head has already been Hand ported in Sydney before i bought it. Saves me abit of money :D
Head is at C-Red now copping some valves, springs, guides etc etc. Installed and will then be attached to abit of cast.
Shouldnt be long until i see a good anchor!!

I know its been some time since an update, Buying the R31, then putting a 25 in it did use some of the GTR funds but its worth it :D
A little has happened with the GTR though
The motor is pretty much done (long motor spec) Looks great, C-Red did a awesome job.
Brief motor specs are
RB30 bottom end,
Filled with ACL bearings, Forged spool rods, Forged CP pistons, 30 crank.
RB26 Cyl head,
Tomei 270 deg cams (10.25mm lift)
Tomei cam gears
Tomei type 2 springs
Nitto 1mm oversize valves
Hand Ported exhaust + intake ports
Bronze valve guides etc
Rear oil drain return to sump
Racepace 8L sump
Jun oil pump
Ross Metal jacket balancer
Bought some HKS GT-RS' turbos for it a few weeks ago aswell. Engine needs to look fairly standard as it still needs to get rego'd!
Now its time to assemble all the bolt ons, buy some more shit then get er done!

Of all the things to compliment, I love that "burn plate?" on the rear bar.

HKS GT-RS and Tomei expreme manifolds are on.
As the RB30 is roughly 30mm higher then a 26 block, standard turbo feed lines dont line up, sourcing braided line, and fitings to make my own lines up.

RH8 GTR
01-05-2012, 02:54 PM
Hey mate, Havent really thought about it too much to be honest, I dare say it would be C-Red or ASG
Brockas
01-05-2012, 02:59 PM
Just a bit of advice, for GT-R tuning, use Ant @ X-Speed.
I think you'll find it's a pretty universal opinion.
Turbo2.6L
01-05-2012, 03:10 PM
No complaints against ASG here. Have only owned the GTR for 8 months or so & had it tuned by Sean twice (pump fuel tune & E85 tune), but he has done an outstanding job both times.
Neat car & interested to see how it goes with the dirty 30 :D
SimonR32
01-05-2012, 03:15 PM
Sean as ASG or Ant from X-Speed, wouldn't be disappointed with either
GT-RS might be a bit choo choo train on a RB30

Gleeso, i have had mixed feelings about that plate on the rear bar. Dont know whether to keep it, or remove it.

When I originally looked at it, it was a little odd but imagining an exhaust hanging beneath it made the picture a whole lot better. Either way, the rear end will look good with or without it.
RH8 GTR
01-05-2012, 05:24 PM
Thanks for the advice. Will also look at X-Speed once its time to get it started! Both X-speed and ASG do awesome work, and have a good reputation for tuning GTR's!
Will be interesting to see when the GT-RS' come on song with the dirty 3L in there. I believe their a little laggy on a 26.
Either way, heli's
SimonR32
01-05-2012, 06:00 PM
They shouldn't be too laggy on the 3L, they just might shuffle a little hence my choo choo comment :)
Brockas
01-05-2012, 06:08 PM
Shuffling does suck at low-RPM if you're putting it under load etc.
I know the similar sized 2835's I originally had were shocking for that. Balance pipes between manifolds fixes that I believe?
RH8 GTR
01-05-2012, 06:33 PM
Ahh yes, i have never experienced the 'shuffling' personally, Have heard about it though.
Hopefully it isnt too bad, apparently there is a few solutions to help stop shuffling, Balance pipe between the 2 manifolds and also a diverter plate welded into the twin turbo pipe.
Unsure if ECU choice has a play, AFM or on a MAP?
coming on well finally, looking forward to go for a spin in this when finished, and i think you ow me a drive ;)

HKS GT-RS and Tomei expreme manifolds are on.
As the RB30 is roughly 30mm higher then a 26 block, standard turbo feed lines dont line up, sourcing braided line, and fitings to make my own lines up.
For braided lines use speedflow teflon lines and the correct 200 series fittings. You will find teflon is more resiliant to heat. Use the speedflow fire sleeve also(looks alot neater then others becuase its black). Thats common practice for most turbo upgrades we do at Xspeed where we have troubles with hardline fitment.
For the shuffle see how you go, sometimes can be "tuned" out other times cant. Have seen people running 3 dimensional boost controllers which is usually fixes the problem. These type boost controllers have an input on the cam angle sensor (engine RPM), and throttle position sensor. Basiically the duty cycle of the solenoid valve will change as the engine RPM does, and with the throttle pos sensor input it tells it how much air it can handle depending on the postion of the throttles.

Thanks for the info Mark, have ordered Proflow fittings for the turbo feed lines, difference between 100 / 200 series fittings though? Also have ordered some Hose insulation to protect against heat.
As for shuffle, fingers crossed it dosent happen!

My fingers are crossed for you :). 200 series speed fittings use an olive in the fitting and need to be used with teflon lines. They also do turbo drain adaptors too!
volt_bite
05-05-2012, 06:43 PM
200 series have better heat operating temp and higher pressure ratings.
Yeah, order heat sleeves too and use a -10AN oil drain adapter for super cleanness :P

When's the motor being dropped in? Have you checked that there is no clearance issues, or taken any measures to ensure you don't meet any issues come fitment time??
Looks good so far, keen to see what it makes!!
RH8 GTR
10-05-2012, 02:41 PM
All i really have to do is make some knock sensor adaptors / fit
Waiting from my Oil cooler / relocation that i ordered
Fittings / lines for the Turbos
Most of the other bits n pieces are on the motor now
I was going to wait until i had a clutch and flywheel before i dropped it in the hole. Although i havent checked for any clearance issues, from what i have seen, in a R33 there are no clearance issues with the Timing belt cover.
Thanks mate, i cant wait either!!

If I did the 30 again I would use a RIPS billet main caps with one of his sump as the bottom bolts for gearbox line up, where as mine dont!
Apart from that, if ya handy with the tools you won't have a problem!
