Can you guys please point me into the direction of good/great software to back up data on one HDD to another. Would be good if it would do it in the back ground, i can select the only files to back up and that it does a back up only if there are changes to those files.
Cheers

i use SyncToy to periodically backup my laptop to a network drive.
you select what folders you want to sync, i have mine setup to copy everything from a certain folder on my laptop, but if i delete anything it wont delete it at the network drive end.
it recognises name changes, file changes etc, can schedule it as often as you like too.

yep synctoy is a winner.
you can also use task scheduler to run it at a certain time/interval

Thanks guys ill download it and see.
Whats the go with not deleting it? Can you see the files in the backup to delete it if you want? Does it compress the files?

you can make it do an exact copy, ie. rename/add/delete.
i have mine set to 'contribute' so it will add/rename, but if i delete anything it keeps it in the backup folder still.
x86 is for 32 bit windows, x64 is for 64 bit.

Ok i have come across a problem. Back up is working fine then all of a sudden comes to a halt and can not pass this one file.
I go check the file out and it wont open and just hangs. is a "random number.MOV" file. I try to delete it but wont and again just hangs.
Can someone please tell me how to delete this file?

It's probably because the backup program is still trying to access it.
Close the backup program, try again to delete the program. If it works, try the backup again.

Synctoy is shit. Stops/halts for no reason - hard to schedule, etc. BLECH!
