View Full Version : Ping Engineering - Noise Snare

When a loud motorcycle woke up Mark Nesdoly’s young daughter, he decided he had enough. Instead of taking a baseball bat to the offending Harley, Nesdoly used his engineering skills to design the Noise Snare, a video detection system for loud vehicles.

The system is simple, yet effective. It uses a microphone to detect excessively loud vehicles and a video camera to record the offender as he or she drives by. Once you have video footage, you can lift an image of the driver, zoom in on his or her licence plate, or extract the audio track to prove the person’s car or motorcycle is way too loud.

All you need to do is mount the unit on a stationary object and the Noise Snare does the rest. It even connects to a wireless network and sends text messages or emails when a violation is recorded. The detection system works so well that the Canadian city of Calgary may field test the device in the upcoming months.

At 3000rpm I think (cruising speed for most vehicles).

Well, at least it would do something about the ricers with milo tin loud exhausts that sound like shit...

There should also be a filter added to it that would let the cars with a sweet note pass. I'm sure they can put a code in it that would ignore the sound of say, an RB26 on gate, but would catch a Prancer Revolution with sick altezzas and milo tin...

Nothing new. Nsw have cameras that issue infringements to trucks dont they?

as said before, here in sydney there are noise cameras for trucks. they tend to put them on down hill stretches in built up areas, where trucks tend to use engine/exhaust braking a lot. i've always wondered if you beeped your horn while going by, would it trigger it to go off?

to be fair, there isnt as many milo tin civics/excels/lancers anymore these days. The craze of neons and cannons on NA cars is starting to wear thin finally.

just two toned commodores to replace them with :)

think its more to do with that skylines and silvias have come down enough in price for P platers to afford them
