Hey
I have just gotten money from my old wrx and have decided on a R32 gts-t, so far most them that i have seen are quiet messy on the inside and out, especially the manual. I have come across a nice 1993 auto with 17 exhaust, stereo and some other minor things, this is in much better conditoin, no rust, only problem with paint work is clear coat on boot lifting up but appart from that very good, same with interior excellent conditoin. Only probalem is its an AUTO grrrr i had enough with my auto rx7 but i am pritty fussyy and don't want a trashed out manual, unless oyu pay more like 16k you can't get a good manual r32.
So i have a few questoins.
does this sound like a good price considering the conditoin and the fact its a 93?
is it exspensive to shift kit or modifiy the auto to make it change harder n faster?
or does anyone know how much it would cost for manual conversion? and wat i need?
so far i have read that you can't get a power fc if you have auto because of revs not droping or somethings so that put thats out of the qestion till i get an conversion.
However it sounds like you can get some good results from turbo changes (rb25 turbo??) and a FMIC and stock computer tune. This is probalby the path i would take before i go manual conversion as i figure i might as well get use out of the box.
any thought very appreciated although i have feeling everyone is gona say don't get auto ya noob

there is a hot looking 89 manual sedan in the auto trader for about $13,800 i think with a heap of aftermarket goodies on it.
RB20 and auto should not go together, having had this setup before, i can tell you right now u will be dissapointed unless u do a 5spd conversion. so much more fun, just ask the 100s of guys on here with manual R32s
Perhaps the auto could be set up better for drag, but unless your chasing massive power, your best to find a decent 5spd as you will alot more fun throwing it around especially if your only doing fairly subtle mods like cooler, exhaust, ecu remap, rb25 turbo etc etc.

lol im still rolling around with my auto slushbox, unsure what the other people that have driven it think...
seems to come onto boost quickly thru the torque converter, plus when your lazy like me after work who the hell wants to change gears :)
mines coming up for a manual swap soon anyways, only coz i miss stretching my left leg. but for a cheap cruiser, auto 20 seems okay.
plus doesnt get the familar whine of a thrashed out rb20 manual box.

having driven two autos and numerous manuals...
go the manual
conversion will be anything up to 4k .. if you got a R34 box and all the bits, go to media, projects and read my intro to project argh 32
if you go a normal manual conversion .. about 2k
put it like this.. easier to do a respray then a conversion :) been there done that too

hrrrmm sounds like a mission you had on your hands.
this one at least already has 5 stud and is turbo. if i check it out at the workshop and its ok ill get this one but if not i think ill concentrate on finding a manual.
so you recon 2k installed for a rb20 gearbox? conversion or is that just for parts
installed with a clutch id say around 2500

i got manual rb20 power and i must say the auto isnt a bad thing
The R32 skylines auto box is found throughout the nissan range (if you break one there not hard to find replacemnts). there are shift kits available for this box that I think retail around the $400 mark. Then obviously labor on top of that and probly a full service on the box (same as a motor would receive, oil and filter).
Recently i have done the auto to manual conversion and i must say the auto isnt all that bad.I found taking off was alot more slower than the manual but the auto will kick back gears nicely and "keep up" with a most manuals.
but i changed mine to manual basicly because i find it makes the car more off a sports car, can take off alot quiker and generally feel the car better.
the conversion cost me $2500 like TJ said.
$1300 for the gear box and assorted parts (interior pannels, tail shaft, pedal boxes, clutch master/slave cylinders, fly wheel)
$600 for the clutch (Extreme 9 puck clutch,Ross Duncan @ Auto Clutch 9244 4496 built pressure plate rated at 2500 pounds, machining of flywheel face, thrust bearing, spigot bush)
$600 labour ( free plug to Rob for his top work, pm for his number) i had redline shock proof gear oil fitted just for security sakes and because its good ****.

Don't buy an R32 after a WRX. You will regret it. Especially an auto.

I really reckon after all the time spent changing to auto, you will find a 32 with standard manual already.
Just less stuffing around
