G’day
I have been floating around Perth forums for a bit, mainly PWRX due to previously owning a 06 STI. That was OK but due to moving to Queensland the STI was sold at a song,
And I picked up a cheaper car to be my daily / track hack whilst in Queensland. Not wanting to be “shoe horned” into a car that won’t be able to deliver the type of performance i am after i did a touch more research and ended up decided on a R32.
Its a 1993 R32 GTST – with a S2 RB25DET. Currently has a pod. Cat back exhaust (titanium tip), walb ro FP and a generic front mount. And the Epic tri spokes, which i have developed a bit of a thing for lately.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)
Either all plans for the car, nothing to rash.
1) Get decent immobiliser, happening Thursday.
2) Get an all fluid, filter, belt service (as i do with all new cars i buy), powerFC / nistune, turbo to cat back exhaust to finish that off. And i think the coil packs are stuffed so i will have that sorted out then a tune. And see where it sits. Will aim to have this done around mid June.
3) Next up will be a set of Tein Mono flex + white lines, and a decent upgrade of brakes. Looking at possibly going with JBT 6spot front 4 spot rears, or maybe K Sport. Any comments on these would be appreciated, I do understand that they are “China Spec” but i have read a few items saying they aren’t a bad bit of kit, just be cautious of the calliper hardware. Timing either mid June with the above $ permitting +/- a month.
4) After this i will be chasing alot more power around the 270rwkw mark. So i guess i will be up for a bigger turbo, fuel system and re tune. – this will be later down the track after i buy a joint in QLD so maybe a year.
5) Also looking at costing to fit GTR front / rear wheel arches. And no doubt a set of decent rims with some thick rubber to hook up. As above will be done when i get to it.
Cheers,
_rucker on here has one - same colour, also rb25. Bolt on turbo and ecu, 325 rwhp. Good fun.

i am thinking when i do the GTR fenders go for a respray if i can get it done cheap enough.
in white, with a black roof. but it might draw a bit to much attention. rather keep it low key as its my daily.
i just love black on white, much like porn

g'day,
been awhile between updates so far i delivered on the above plan with the exception of the body work, decided its not really that important to me now i have a daily as well.
fitted an autowatch with kill switch the day after my initial post ... previously it didnt matter what key i would put in the ignition, it would start regardless.
had it looked over by mercury motorsport and they did a major service, fitted a Vipec ecu, boost t, replaced the coil packs and gave it a tune to 190rwkw on a "safe tune" shorthly thereafter i had a tein and whiteline package fitted up. been happy with it so far so i decided i like it so much i will bring it back to perth with me, which i recieved back here 2 weeks ago.
so i got a bit bored, i fitted the CE28's off my old STI, repaired the front bumper (it was farked from brisbane roads) with a pressure pack, and i am awaiting on "owning the car for a year " about a month away so i can have it WA Rego'd with out a run over the pits. happy days
<a href="http://s1154.photobucket.com/albums/p530/strap69/?action=view&current=IMG_6115-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p530/strap69/IMG_6115-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
and last night changed to another R200 diff that was slightly less shagged, although i think mechanical diff is the only way at the moment.
the standard lights in these cars are a joke even with "superior bulbs fitted" so will be fitting a set of xennons today
way forward from here - in the next month
dump / front pipe, electronic boost controller, and retune - currently running way to rich
can anyone recomend a vipec tuner in WA?
Front Camber Arms, KKR Castor Rods, KKR Rear Camber Arms Type, KKR Rear Toe Rods, KKR Rear Traction Arms, Aluminium Cradle Bushes(pineapples) from option 1. proper alignment
kaaz / nismo 1.5way LSD
in the next 3 months
reconditioned gearbox - is currently shagged,
hypergear turbo, upgraded injectors - chasing 250ish rwkw
Cheers,

i have purchased a R32 GTR with N1 Lip from Infamous_T
have a sale pending a phone call on a Do Luck Rear Bar
and tracking down a set of side skirts all to be resprayed as well as the bonnet in the original Metalic Blue
next steps will be to hit Cartel Online to overhaul the suspension, chasing 2 more R32 GTR Rims to fit KU36's to and basically get it ready for the AFFARCC Barbs track day on the 5th of August.
Cheers,

What spec turbo is that ?

What spec turbo is that ?
hyper gear ATR43G3 in .63 exh trim. hoping for good boost pick up, and around 250rwkw. same turbo has pumped on 290ish rwkw on 20psi.
meant to be pure bolt on, same dump flange as stock but needs a bit of custom fabrication that ASG is aware of. have seen good results on Skylines Aus with the same turbos.

Car was picked up today from ASG, dyno sheet below
http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p530/strap69/skyrine.jpg
Few points
Tune was a base tune of vipec when mercury motorsports did it, another disappointed customer to the long list of people screwed over by mercury’s – pretty sure I have a line item for 5 hours dyno time on an invoice.
VCT wiring was not hooked up during engine conversion - no biggie will get it done next time the car is there.
Next up
New front bumper gets fitted this weekend, and trust rear pods painted. Still waiting to find some GTR side skirts tho, will fit the rear pods when I find some side skirts.
I am locked in for a day at barbagello on the 5/8 so need to get the tow hooks, fire extinguisher, cams compliant helmet etc etc etc. sorted by then. Trying to find 2 more R32 GTR rims to put some KU36’s on, alternatively the Advans will make a matte black appearance wrapped in KU 36’s.
Next
Front and rear adjustable lower arms, rear camber arms, tension rod, solid subframe bushes, steering bush.
Nismo copper mix single plate, greddy or plasmaman FFP (undecided yet), new intercooler and piping.
Am going to attempt to do all the work above myself and get it retuned at ASG as well as sort out the VCT, and possibly some of the Launch control and AL features in the vipec.

hoping repair of VCT, removal of China Cooler and new plenum will resolve.
VCT is the only issue ASG raised from memory.
i havent driven it yet, still away for another 18 days
Lonewolf
12-07-2012, 08:48 AM
pretty sure VCT will only help with the low/mid-range, not the top end....
power does seem a bit low considering an rb20 with a rb25 turbo on 15psi generally does about 240-250hp, and you have .5L more and a much bigger turbo
poombah
12-07-2012, 12:45 PM
Look forward to seeing this on the track in august.
Power looks a little low for the mods - my old 1jz, stock turbos, stock ecu with SAFC, 3" exhaust and china cooler cranked out over 300rwhp at just a touch over 1bar if thats any guide - hopefully get it all sorted.

Still got a cat convertor? I doubt its your cooler or your plenum that's stopping it making the best possible HP.
Could have collapsed and its killed your hp would also explain why its more laggy than it should be?
Other than that I think it looks sweet. Always liked r32's

thanks mate will give it a shot prior to sending it back to have the VCT sorted,
wouldnt surprise me, my exhaust is a miriad of random parts, due to having the previous cat split in half on a dodgy speedbump. had a local exhaust shop in QLD do it on the fly, but it wasnt the best option.

Its worth a try and its caught me out in the past.
Car just started to get slower and slower and laggier and laggier and I thought the turbo had died. Checked out the exhaust and the cat had collapsed and half blocked it off. So I did what any good car enthusiast would do I stopped driving it straight away and got a replacement. I did not remove the insides and continue on my merry way.

spun up 366whp @ 17psi at Garage 101 roller dyno and goes significantly harder i am really happy with it, danny ran out of ink so i couldnt get a dyno sheet. i sat there and watched him tune it from around 9 till 10:30pm friday night getting everything sweet, 1 minor problem due to my pension for china products . huge props to both Galvsport and Garage 101 to put up with my shit and get it over the line and ready for racewars.

the thing i hate about Nick @ MD Detailing my car, is the MANY defects in the paint it brings up, various scratches, dings, dents, bird shit acid stains that comes with a 20 year old paint job. very keen on letting the lads at meltham work magic on it.
LOL who am i kidding i will more than likely go cams, better turbo, brembos, cage, before i do the paint... will eventually put it on WA plates but WA licencing is being a serious thorn in the balls.

Great power for such low boost. Must feel great on the road in comparison to the very first tune.
Any reason why the boost wasn't turned up a bit higher?

Turning the boost up didn’t gain any extra power due to having to drop the timing, I am happy with 17psi seems like a nice safe number.

That's with the ATR turbo yeah?
What exhaust housing have you got?
I have the .63 and still no full boost till 4500rpm, which in an auto makes it one laggy as fuck car :P

LOL Yeah man it’s with the .63 as I wanted the super quick spool as seen on hypergear website, it seems to have lost a bit of the low end from the new manifolds if you compare it to the old dyno sheet but it still pulls a lot harder. And far more enjoyable.
What power did you end up with?

I got the r34 PU Hiflow with .63
I got 318 @15psi
The coil packs are fucked, anything over 15psi was blowing the spark out, I'll get some splitfires and also a hi stall to get some boost earlier when driving. Hopefully get it retuned at about 18psi or whatever the turbo will put out. Tuner said the turbo barely looks like it's trying at 15 pounds.
So If I get 350 at the rears I'll be happy considering it's running through an auto box, has near on 250k on the clock, and still running stock manifolds n shit :)

R34 has a bigger housing (Op6?) which could explain a bit of the lag Brett...
I was looking at the "SS" series from him on my old rb20,
Graphs on the hypergear site show 20psi of boost at sub 3500rpm with decent top end

cool who tuned yours brett?
well got in 2 runs at the motorplex tonight, 13.51 @112mph with a bit of wheel spin infirst then destroyed a hose clamp mid track and coasted accross to a 14.1. Cheers to Turbo Esky for the lend of the sockets, but the clamp itself was fucked and couldnt hold a sluts flaps together. coasted it home will buy some decent hose clamps tommorow, fit bigger brakes and be good for racewars maybe

At least the drags tonight served a purpose. Did the SMG fluid change and I must say, so smooth in the gear changes now.
