Hey,

Boss has asked me to get a new wall framing gun, and told me I have to do the research and he'll pay for it. I've got upto roughly $700ish to spend.

What way should I go ? Gas or Air ? At this stage I'm doing a lot of wall framing for cavity sliding doors, and for bulkheads, and mainly 1st fixing duties ( a bit of lining windows frames too with 2s.) etc.

The other chippy who does our 2nd fixing recommends getting air, for the fact it's less maintenance, and you don't have to continously buy gas and recharge the batteries, but the downside is the hose and attachments can get in the way, and having to lug it everywhere.

I'm keen for either way, so far I've got my eye on :

http://www.paslode.com/cordless-nailers/cf325/

which does 2 - 3 1/4" nails.

Any information would be massively appreciated.

Pete.

Go with the gas. The one u posted should be sweet, paslode are the best.

all gas guns are shit. so brand makes no difference. senco is a better quality gun, but paslode would be more convenient for servicing and paslode nails/gas are more available.

if you can stretch the budget to get an air gun then do it. but a full set up including compressor etc would probably be in excess of 1k.

He already has the compressor and Airlines in the container, but unless I leave the compressor in the units ( doing 110 3x1 /4x2 retirement units ), I have no way to transport it everyday.

I'll have a search for that Senco brand, but as you have mentioned, Paslode nails and gas are heaps easier to buy for especially down here in Bunbury.

I've been using paslode gas guns for awhile now and haven't heard anyone refer to them as shit. We would use them all day constantly and aslong as you knew how to work them they go great. Would be ideal for what you need.

If you like lugging around a compressor and hose lines everyday go for that. I've only really used air setups in the roofing industry and we still had a gas gun or two.

yeh its just not practical to drag a big heavy compressor round to every job. also pulling on an air hose that just keeps getting tangled and caught can get pretty frustrating.

paslode nails/gas will still fit in the senco gun, but the racks are lined up at a slightly different angle, so every now and then you will have a misfire, where the gun will fire 2 nails at a time. nothing worth worrying about though.

senco may be difficult to get a hold of down that way. the only place that i know stocks senco is ortons in balcatta.

fair enough, you are speaking from personal experience.

its not just the paslode guns, its all gas guns. with senco being marginally better than paslode.

i prefer the cordless gun, but its frustrating when they fire intermittently.

Dad is a roof carpenter, and I've worked with him before, and I found for roofing I preferred the air guns.

We use senco air guns, and have 2 paslode gas guns, but I hate the paslodes and so does the old man. Never seem to fire right, pingpingpingping of a thing when gas runs out/battery dies when your up on a roof etc. I guess it comes down to convenience really, old man has the compressor in the toolbox on the truck, and just run hoses at every job.

Won't be doing any roofing, we have a roofing team who does all them.

I'm a 2nd year mature age, and the company gets an extra payments for having me over age, so he said they'd spend a couple of months payments on some stuff for me, I've given him an extra list of what else I want for doing them, and he's come through pretty well so far.

Mainly be used for the framing, I have to get up in the roof to trim certain places out too ( bits that are added onto design for bulkhead etc ) when there's already gyprock inside, so i really do think if i can get away from Air ( even though you guys have recommended it ) It would be a big help, cause I can't see me getting the air guns into certain spots with hoses attached.

Senco do a pneumatic cordless gun, has a big air pump built in sort of thing. I'm just trying to find out where a local dealer is down here ( probably Toolmart).

Thanks for all your advice though, extremely helpful.

Pete.

Sounds like you need the cordless for your line of work. They are great for small jobs and fucking around in roof spaces. They love pine but are not too friendly on old hardwood. This said I have not tried the new paslode which is ment to be 30 % more powerful than the basic model

best thing bout a airline cun is u can swap it over to put ur other nuematic tools on i,e hammer drils rattles drills putting mungoes in and out,

its all about preference man, most guys the run guns day in and out all day go the compressor but thats also cause they started back before the gas ones.

if u cbfed transporting the compressor use the gas simple, the first bunch of gas guns that came out wernt to flash but they r tip top now, if u have a compressor u can just adjust the delivery and push nails in further and on dfferent guns i'e if u ever need to do decking or cladding.

my old man used to build stand up frames houses and has been using a Paslode gas gun for the last 4-5 years and for light work like what you want he reckons u cant beat it. Infact he has 2, like any tool with moving parts get it services regularly and look after it and you wont have a problem.

For heavier stuff like roof joists he goes the air gun tho, only problem tho is if you only have a small compressor to run it and you are doing alot of nails in a run you will find say the 10th nail wont go in properly due to the comp running out of pressure.
