So here's a quick rundown of my R32. I picked the car up last year around feb/ macrh with the RB25 motor/box combo, coilovers, zorst, cooler, PowerFC and some 34R rims. The plan was to get into something RWD to start some drifting in and keep it as a nice clean streeter.

She was very very tidy when I picked her up and after about 6 months I started getting into the drifting scene a bit more, put a cage etc in and played around with wider/ lower offset rims which lead to me getting pulled over and stickered. The sticker never made it off the car unfortunatly:(

Time went on and I drifted a few Collie Drift Assault events and a few rounds of last season, always with problems though. So now since the season is done an dusted I thought its time for a refresh to get things going a bit better for next season. Heres a few current specs/ pics and will update as parts arrive in the next few weeks and months. Enjoy.

Car looked great until you added that abortion of a rear bar, looks like it was designed by the same guy that built darth vaders helmet.

Why the change of rims, the R rims are far better to have than koya rims, they look tougher too.

i like the direction this car is taking! what rims you planning on, dish? some VSKFs or similar would go nice as baller skid rims.

nice car, shit owner!

looks like a bn kit eh? or did you get rob to make you something up?

mitcho
10-05-2011, 04:23 PM
bangn - Its a full kit and vented front fenders. I never thought I would go down the path of a kit as I know I will destroy it and not mad keen on the look, But it was starting to look a bit tatty here and there so thought fuck it. It is a bit over the top I agree, but Ive got it now so oh well. Also wrecking KOYA rims is alot cheaper than wrecking 34R rims, and needed different offset on the front for more clearance etc.

Simon - Rough alignment is.....
Rear camber -0.5 deg.
Rear traction rods 10mm shorter.
1-2mm total toe in. Its at 1mm total at the moment, prob go 2mm total with the new setup.

Front camber -3deg. Move to -4 when the new tie rods arrive.
2mm total toe out. Might go a bit more to make it snappier.
7deg castor.
Ill be playing around with alignments a bit more this year to get the most out of the setup.

The kit is a BN front with URAS sides and rear, 25mm front fenders and a DMAX roof spoiler. Made by Rob at Hybrid Customs. This guy does awesome work so if you're looking for any body parts or need anything custom made to suit your car go and see him, he's tops.

Steering rack is still stock R32 just with the modded knuckles in there its enough for now. Will play with the knuckles and LCA's a bit more soon to get some more lock and go from there. These are only quite mild knuckles aswell but they certainly help!
And as for rims I'm leaning towards ROTA Torque at the moment. I really cant justify spending bulk coin on 'Brand Name' rims to only drop them in the dirt/ sand etc and scratch them up...

Cheers for the pic Luke and the vid klutch, I hadn't seent that before!

SimonR32
10-05-2011, 04:40 PM
Interesting mine is fairly similar :)

I run no toe on the front or rear, 8deg of castor and only 2.5deg of camber on the front but i need more, I shagged the outside of the fronts at the time attack bad.

Also with the rear traction rods I have had them adjusted to 75mm shorter than the camber arms (same as they are 75mm shorter from factory) to keep the factory geometry.

mitcho
10-05-2011, 04:45 PM
Im running toe in on the rear for grip obviously...How come you haven't? You deffinatly have the power to.

I think I may make the traction rods stock length also. Some people seem to run them shorter and some run them stock length in drift. TBH I'm unsure how much of a difference it makes running them shorter.

mitcho
23-05-2011, 05:35 PM
Got a few bits and pieces done recently. Kit is fully fitted now and cleaned up and sprayed the wheel wells and brakes.

Chopped up my LCA's and made some new lock stops and braced the bottom of them.

Will get more pics up through the week when the front end is back together. Should have mani, turbo, gate and fuel rail by the end of the week aswell so should keep me going for the weekend.

15-08-2011, 11:25 AM
those orange lines might just be to template for braid lengths etc..

mitcho
15-08-2011, 11:56 AM
Orange lines are fire braid to help protect the teflon from heat etc. No its not touching the mani anywhere, 30mm away at closest point.

Looks shit but hopefully it helps!

Got an alignment saturday so should be a bit quicker again and drive straight which will be good, cant wait to get it out there again!

Well the time came to switch to 18's for a bit more speed and grip so got myself some Rota Torque's. Rear fitment is a bit gay but not too fussed as It wont scrub fuck all now. I've only given it a quick bash on the road on the way to All Stars and the difference in grip is crazy.
Hooks up pretty well in 2nd now as on 17's it would be all over the show, so looking forward to getting on the track in a few weeks to really tweak the setup and get it as quick as possible.

Ive had a bit of flatspot in the tune so went to All Stars to see if Sean could tidy it up, he couldnt find anything wrong on the dyno. Went for a drive and did a bit of road tuning so now its a bit better but still not quite 100% so will see how she goes next time on track. Anyway a few pics with the new shoes..

I couldnt get a good pic showing the colour of these ones but there a gun metallic, look really nice up close.

looks good, but how do 18s give more grip that 17s, * if the tyres are the same etc
as the larger sidewall on the 17s would have more flex thus a bit more grip.

mitcho
27-10-2011, 10:09 PM
Haha yea Josh got a bit carried away on some runs.....It loves it though.

Bigger rolling diameter I would have thought Tocchi? Either way they felt grippier on the street, will properly test them on the next track day in a couple of weeks.

So Ive thrashed heaps more and broke heaps more shit since the last update. Car has been going strong with minimal problems which is good :)Kit and rear 1/4 got destroyed (again) at ADGP and bent a rear toe arm from getting bashed into. So old kit went in the bin and new one being made as we speak. Got some solid rear bushes for the rear cradle and diff to put in. Got some new gauges to make a new cluster too so that will happen soon.

I took out my front X member and moved my steering rack forward 20mm and extended my LCA's 25mm. Got new ball joints for the LCA's and got some new PS lines made up, bolted it all back up this arvo and its sweet. Need to drop the complete rear subframe assembly to do the cradle mounts so ill start that tomorrow. Few pics n shit

Soo 6 months have passed and a few things have changed. Ive only driven it 4 times this year as Its just too expensive to drive on my current wage but will be out A lot more for the remainder of the year. Got something like 8 events to do by the end of the year.

Just recently I pulled out all of the interior and removed sound deading, made up my own seat rails to fit a matching pair of Brides and made up a harness bar for the cage. I then repainted the interior and cage and removed/ tidied up some wiring and put it all back together. Looks fucking sweet

The kit and fenders have been black for most of the year so fixed them up and painted them silver again, looks real clean again for once. Then purchased some new knuckles and 17's for the front to help with clearance issues. Car now has a bit more lock but more importantly close to zero ackerman so should be a lot more predictable at angle now (got no excuse for being shit now!)

On sunday Scott Morley from Luckybelt Photography was kind enough to shoot the car, heres the pics. I LOVE them! If anyone is going to the drift/ burnout day in collie this weekend Ill be down there, then PowerCruise doing demo's and a few state rounds and ADGP so its gonna be a busy few months but cant wait!
