Hi all, thought I would chuck up some pics and vids over the weekend of the V8's...

My cousin is No#1 Mechanic on car #33 Lee Holdsworth so I get pretty good perks when they come to town...

Don't get too excited, the V8s were on the hard compound tyre. Knocked off a couple of seconds on the soft tyre :) The bikes were quicker Saturday as well!

Didn't bother trying my luck for a walk through after Daz said there wasn't much of a setup etc. Hope you boys had fun, looked like it would've been good seeing it from a team's perspective.

Still, in race trim, times floated from 56 to 60 as the tyres died.

Brett, I see no issue comparing them when the Porka run a hard compound which is similar to the V8 hards.

Need to throw a set of softs on a porka for a true comparo :)

while you cant compare qualifying times and race times, 54.9 is fucking quick!

and i agree the porsches were very very quick, but i knew they would be the track suits a car with a lot of mechanical downforce, you could see how quick they got back on the throttle through the corner compared to the v8's - would love to see what they can do on softs. i enjoyed watching them and the v8's equally, those carrera's sound so amazing and look so so so so good.

I agree, and enjoyed watching them all for different reasons:

V8 utes = a bunch of young hot heads who just drive bumper car style and go in fearless.

Carreras = insta-boner when they fire up.. One of the best sounding cars I've ever heard.

V8's = super quick times, being a long term Holden boy, and that speed-cut limiter sound as they roll through the pits, plus the huge backfire they throw over the start line exactly where I was situated for the weekend.. Another insta-boner

For anyone interested, a friend of mine makes V8 supercar certified eskys using any slick/wet tyre from any car and race you want.. They are very durable, light weight, with carry handles, and hold about 100 cans with ice :)

If there is enough interest here I will organise a group buy and will be able to knock a couple of dollars off.

Yep made a drunken pact on Saturday night that we had to attend Bathurst next year, even if we didn't have one of our suppliers paying the way.

Mitch, I'll get you some photos of the esky as soon as I can. They have a prototype available in Kelmscott but obviously do not have them ready to buy off the shelf as you need to choose your car and race etc first :)

Personally I think it would be cool to buy one with a tyre off Karl or Steve Owen's car after that crash.. They might have a little warpage.

How do they get a hold of the tyres? I know that GRM take there complete set with them frucked or not...

Not sure, it's all worked out with V8s, and the tyres are given to the teams after they pay for 1 full set in the first round, so not sure the teams even have ownership of them? (I found out the bit about the tyres from one of the guys in the Fujistu series on the weekend, may not be true for the supercars)

From what I know, they take the tyres that are used on race day etc for practice days and future qualifying days.. They also run some on their ride car which is at Barbs currently. Finishes up tomorrow and heads back to Melb with their V8 ride ute aswell...

They also look over the damaged tyres to see what they can learn and from there I'm not sure where they go..

Slowly!!!!!!!!!!! :) I'll send a call out now for updates :) The prototype is not as pretty as the finished product, the bloke who cut the tyre stuffed it up so it doesn't look as good as the final product will, but they aren't making another one until they get an order, so when an order is placed they can make a proper one and get some decent photos.
