Its rainin, rain means mud!

Anyone wanna go get their 4wd's dirty on saturday?

Supposed to be rainin rest of the week so there should be some water and mud about this weekend

Thinkin either:
Telephone Lane- never been there before but supposed to be fun in the mud
Metro Rd- few deep mud holes up there and lots of spots that hold a fair bit of water
Powerlines.

mr_mike

got rear recovery sorted then can always snatch u out backwards.

you can either get a recovery hitch like this-
http://www.bushranger.com.au/hitch_recovery/recovery_hitch_4.jpg
or can just put the snatch strap thru the pin that holds the towball hitch in. just make sure it loose and u can get it out tho i had to bash mine out with a hammer.

Quoted from another forum today about the powerlines

Went up there this morning, was bone dry. All the bulldust areas had a little crusty layer on top of them but was still powder underneath. It had been pissing down too.

Will need to rain for a week solid to make some mud.

MrSparkle

Yeah, There is but be careful if you haven't been there before some of the puddles look pretty insignificant but they can have crap in them like logs or more than likely be whopping holes underneath the surface. Ive been caught out there before and ill bet I'm not the only one.

Cheers, might have already been and gone by then, see how it goes.

Only doing from flynn rd on, the very start has one good hill and even then it's a walk in the park, rest is boring until flynn...

MrSparkle
30-04-2011, 07:30 AM
Does that mean you drive around the first part as you first enter the track from Cole rd? That's one of my favourite parts and half the ppl that drive that track drive round it.

Simon
30-04-2011, 09:03 AM
Flynn's the end where the mud pits are yeah?

Me and a couple of mates are going to Skeet road around 1pm today.

Anyone else who's there if you see an import 62 cruiser and a BIG 80 series that will be us

Shauno
30-04-2011, 09:32 AM
Will be there too!

Shauno

It does, that's the worst part, km after km of nothing. One decent hill that 50% of people skip or tear up and have to roll back and take the chicken track.

Went up there at 9:30, only a small amount of water, but the surface is moist so no dust. Car came home as clean as it was before it left :)

Has changed a shit load since last going, a lot of the 'harder' stuff is now smoothed out and easy, except the fence climb which has been dug down to expose big arse boulders!

saw 6 others on track, 4 being from a 4wd training course doing it east to west.

South
30-04-2011, 01:10 PM
Flynn road is the start of the fun sections, mud is at the end of that section before you come back to the highway.

mr_mike
30-04-2011, 05:15 PM
put the GU sus in my GQ this mornin has given me about 50mm lift over my my sagged suspension was before so am happy with that and they were free. Then TWiG was so impressed with my sus we eneded up driving down to Safety bay to pick up some GU sprinsg for his and chucked them in this avo.
Then headed down Skeet road for an hour or so, some very slushy but not all that deep mud holes about.

Had a slow leak on one of my Chinese triangle a/t tyres so got chris to fix that then while balancing the tyre it became apparent just how out of round these tyres are, giving me a pretty gnarly wobble at 70kph so now on the look out for some cheap A/t's

i picked up a set of sava's for 500 bucks with like 200km on them, had them for 2 years now and still shown barely any wear and have been great in all conditions, they're certainly no muddies but they're tough and i've given them a damn hard time on the rocks etc with no damage and good on the beach too, very impressed with them for a cheap set of tyres!

mr_mike
01-05-2011, 06:35 AM

Dunno some of the mud holes are pretty fuckin deep, biggest issue is bottoming out cos the ruts are so deep.
Keen for a fishing trip, hardly a 'keen' angler but have own rod and keen to get into it.

What sort of recovery gear do you guys carry?

After getting stuck this weekend (Pajero didn't quite have the ground clearance I needed and got stuck on the bash plates... bit of a fuck up), I discovered the snatch strap is pretty useless if you don't have anyone else there to pull you out. Although got some good exercise walking 3km's to work to grab a loader to pull myself out of the shit.

snatch strap, couple bow shackles and if its a beach trip a long handle shovel.

plan on getting some maxtrax and a high lift jack eventually aswell.

A high lift jack would of helped in ur situation as u could of jacked the car up and jammed some logs or rocks under the wheels in the ruts giving u more clearance when u lowered it down again.

In reply to magic1 - No, I was relatively close to the quarry I work at. Rang the boss and he gave me permission to take one. I wanted to use the bulldozer as it was only half the walk, but wasn't allowed on that.
