Looks like a fair bit of coin went into this car, keen to know how you go with the pits. Nice pick up.

I was interested in this car ages ago before I bought my current car.
Didn't trust the seller or his mechanics, as they did 'their own checkup' in his own workshop and charged me double the cost of what a simple compression test and general check would (whose to say they even did it :S)
The stuff that came out of the mechanic's mouth was laughable and put me right off so I never bothered proceeded in taking my interest further.

Did you go to Sydney to check it out? Hopefully it's as good as the seller says it is and that you don't run into too much trouble with the car.

I think the guy he bought this off had bought it from the seller you are reffering to. Not too sure though.

Most likely as I saw it up on Car Sales not long ago and the guy's name was different to the original owner I was dealing with (some Vietnamese guy).

Cheers guys, ill post when i take it to the pits.

The guy i bought it off was italian or something, not vietnamese, he seemed ok and had an MTA report. I didnt go over to look at it which people were like wtf, but its here now and ok. very happy with the car.

I think he only had it for a short time as well, i found a previous sale thread for June last year.

After putting new brake rotors and pads on i took it to the pits last week but failed.
Things to do;
Bracket for air intake
Mesh in front of intercooler
New front tyres (done)
Clean up some oil
Fix rear plate lights (seem to have been blacked out)
Fix idle, idles too high
and silence the blow off valve/fluttering

Hopefully get the bulk of this done on monday and take it back next week

Bollocks is pretty much spot on... I would tell them to go get fucked but that usually doesn't get you far haha

Just do a dodgy cable tie job with mesh and then rip it out straight away after you have passed :)

thrtytwo
21-05-2011, 11:24 AM
Haha cable ties are a no no, they told him to take all the cable ties off that currently hold stuff and use bolts. Also Mesh is indeed BS :S

Mint car mate, wish I had the 257 sometimes haha

I had my intercooler hanging below my bar exposed and all, and pits didn't say a thing about it...

Sounds like bullshit to me but you got to do what you got to do.

thrtytwo

exactly, what is mesh gunna stop that the intercooler itself wouldn't :(

Tuff as mate, have much trouble getting the car over here? Sounds like the pit mechanic has a mesh fetish.

So after getting a list of things to do i realized i could do most of it myself, first i got new front tyres, changed back to the stock blow off valve(plumbed) to make it run silently, then i put it on the hoist at work and raised the coilovers. I had to get a bracket for the air intake, mesh to go in front of the intercooler and a bracket or something to hold up some hoses underneath, heres my DIY efforts
Air intake bracket

Bracket to hold the hoses up
http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k558/Robbien/IMAG0089.jpg

and the mesh
http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k558/Robbien/IMAG0087.jpg

After doing these i still had to try and fix the idle issue, i was almost ready to take it and have a look at the setting on the computer when i came across a thread somewhere saying that a dirty idle air controller can cause idle to be high/go up and down, so i cleaned this out and it seemed to fix the problem most of the time but it still at some points goes up a bit.

Took the globes covers off the rear plates light and they werent painted, just needed new globes so changed them and that was that.

Morning before the pits i put it up on the hoist and cleaned all the oil from underneath and was ready to go.

Rocked up at the pits and noticed the guy i got first time round was there and he seemed to like the car so i was hoping to get him again, one of the inspectors came out and asked if i was next but i said no some other guy was, then another guy came out and i was the only one left and he asked if i was next and i had to say yes, then he said ok no worries one of the inspectors asked to do your car so he will be out in a minute, then the guy i got the first time came out and started the examination. He looked over everything took it for a drive and passed it.

Looking forward to the event on June 26th, will be good to meet those who are there and put faces to names.
