yeah same charger i had on my ute at the wcc barb's day. basically same engine combo, but this one is making more power.
the ute has been sitting in the back yard minus gearbox/engine since the track day, due to broken gearbox. that is all fixed/upgraded but im going to build a new engine for it prior to cannonball.
have all the parts for a 410 stroker, but i have pretty much sold it to my dad now for his drag car.
so looking at buying an lsx 410 or 427 direct from the us and then put the 2300 harrop on top of that.

Thought about the Whipple Superchargers? I reckon a 2.9 to 3.3 would be more suited to the larger capacity motor. Not to mention you will be running the whipple in a more efficient part of there boost to airflow curve then the smaller eaton.

Update time:
On a cruise a month back i broke the ringland on piston 8 from the freezing cold air (i hadnt compensated too much in the tune for cold weather, due to tuning in summer). end result was some pushed water and plenty of blow by from the pcv.
stripped the motor down to find bits of the ring lands on cyclinder 6 & 8 missing. i allready knew something was a miss with cyclinder 6 for a few months before the track day, but it wasn't going to prevent me from having some fun.
After stripping down the motor and finding what looked like no physical damage to the heads or on the bores, I'd thought i was going to get by with a cheap rebuild with some forged pistons.
So the block, crank and parts were delivered to SQP for machining for some new pistons/assembly work.
Sadly it turns out that after some cleaning up of the bore in cyclinder 8 a slight crack was detected in the steel liner. (ally block's have pressed in steel liners)
So only natural thing to do is upgrade to a new LS3 block for 6.2lt's while sticking with the current cam.
New engine should be ready in 2 weeks, so im taking the time to put a trans cooler in for the auto & trying to get a deal on new bigger blower. Though if the latter falls through i will take the 2.3lt blower i have in a box and put that on in place of the smaller/older 2lt model.
Then it's a count down to when the auto gives in.
how that auto is still alive is beyond me
thommo

Id say its bad to hear about the extra damage with the block but youve turned it around to be a very positive outcome
What sort of power are you expecting to produce with the new setup ?

update time:
I'm in the process of putting the car back togethor again, so it should be running sometime over the weekend, early next week.
so far the new 6.2lt LS3 motor is in along with the auto, waterpump and all accessories are on too.
Motor specs:
pretty much the same as the old factory 6lt motor except for an upgrade to some larger dual valve springs
Forged pistons obviously
stock crank/rods with upgraded ARP bolts
ARP Main & Head studs
same cam
new timing chain (was allready double row)
new oil pump, gaskets and shit
newer ls3 heads swapped for my old ones for zilch
that should just about cover it.
Engine built by John from SQP in maddington
Over the weekend I drained the fluid out of the auto and put in a new filter (after getting a new one from amcap, then when going to install it find it was for a different gearbox) and new dexron 6 fluid as it was passed the 100k km service interval for the trans.
http://www.vyssute.com/downloads/VESS/engine%20rebuild/IMG_0275.JPG
Decided i should put a rather large dual pass cooler in for the auto at the same time which should arrive friday morning at work from adelaide.
http://www.aseturbo.com/images/uploads/Oil%20coolers/oil-cooler-dual-pass.jpg
So i'll make up a bracket for it on the weekend along with the power steering cooler.
tonight i swapped the injectors & cooling hoses from the old hh122 (2lt) blower to the larger htv2300 (2.3lt) blower and put it on top of the motor.
I've been pretty slack in taking pictures, coz well once you've seen a ve engine bay with a blower on it, there all kinda the same.
However, im running some LS9 valve covers which allows me to mount the coil packs directly to the covers without the steel bracket they normally have. This should help tidy up the engine bay somewhat.
http://www.vyssute.com/downloads/VESS/engine%20rebuild/IMG_0274.JPG
once i get back on the road and run in, i'll hit the dyno and see if can crack the 600rwhp mark. if the the auto holds on that is.

stock ls3 heads, no real need for porting with the blower going on top.
apparently he deals with a guy on the east coast that build motors for the pro utes and they can only run specific part number on the motors, so thats why i got upgraded to the later model part number.

better seeing it on. i was thinking they were mounting it off the head. from the looks of that they are using the 13mm bolt next to the fuse box to hold it?
the vcm otr also has the hole for the hose on the other side to yours.
did you put a t-peice on the line going to the bottle or are you running a single hose from either the valley plate or rocker cover? coz im going to be pulling/sucking from both rocker covers and the pcv in the valley plate.

i've had the htv2300 in a box in the shed for over 6 months as it's "supposed" to go on the 410 im building for my vy ute. it may still make it's way onto it, but for now i'll give it some use on the VE.
I was originally trying to sell the hh122 kit to then buy an mp2300 kit, but the 122 didnt sell, so it was just a matter of swapping the injectors over, replacing the coolant hoses, front pulley & then the front snout.
Well i called it a night at 11:50pm.
The car runs, took 2 starts before it settled to an idle, neighbors probably dont love me after having it idle and revved after 10:30pm while i checked the trans fluid level & for fluid leaks (yay for none), but fuck em. pingpingpingpings always have parties and music played loud, they can listen to my v8 symphony.
In no particular order, here are some pics.
Had to to some minor cutting to the front bumper to fit the trans cooler in. Not much room to play with because of the water pump for the supercharger intercooler.

just got home from bunbury, was looking good till about an hour ago when i lost oil pressure 20km's from home. looking to be faulty oil pressure sensor as the engine is smooth and quite.
Gave the old man a call to come pick me up with a trailer, drove it on to trailer, still dead quite. no klack klack sounds like they make when they really have lost oil pressure.
I did reuse an existing sensor, so hopefully that's it.
also need to get a larger blower pulley as it's making near on 14psi by 3500rpm.
Josh did the power steering cooler bracket for me aswell.

Josh said it was loud as fuck, which is good. The main deterrent for me ever considering a top mount was the fact that they were trying to make them super stealthy so you didn't know the car had one. No point having a blower if you can't hear it whining from idle!

car is back up and running again, it appears that in my excitement of getting the car back up and running and with the bigger blower, the squirt i gave the car shortly before it died last weekend was the result of some detonation killing some of the conrod, mains bearings.
i under estimated the larger capacity blower and ended up putting around 14psi of boost into the motor relativily early in the rpm range and while i took a fair chunk of timing out of the original tune for the run-in it was obviously still too much.
end result was engine out for a strip down of the bottom end, with it turned around within a day.
Talk about Service!
Because of the increase in boost, im going to go back to the hh122 blower because the htv2300 would require me to change the harmonic balancer to drop it down, plus the 2300 is way too noisy at cruising speeds. @ 2000rpm it has a real loud harmonic whine from the gilmer gears. Nothing like the old 122.

Well thats a shame to hear dude! Glad to hear its back to all go again. In regards to the blower, if the VY can use it then maybe its good to stick with the devil you know and bolt the HH122 back on there. 14psi of HTV2300 goodness would have been nice if it held together though lol.

wasnt planning on taking the ve to cannonball.
the vy motor is being built for big boost. mid 9 compression. big bore pistons, short stroke.
so what are you planning on taking then?

So as the engine for my ute doesnt look like it's going to be finished for a while & definetly not in time for the cannonball, mainly due to lack of $$$. I put the bigger blower back on the VE on sunday. Only a 2hr job from start to finish, including swapping intake and injectors over.
Another reason for doing so is i had the car on the dyno saturday morning and ran up a measly 480rwhp (started at 430). i'll be honest and say i have been running this motor richer & with less timing than the old 6Lt motor but the Air intake temps are attrocious. (suspect the big trans cooler is not helping things here, so im going to look at changing & relocating the trans cooler)
start a run with 60c and by the end it's at 82c and that's on shootout 8f, so not exactly a slow ramp rate. on the road though you don't really notice the difference as it makes like 400rwhp from 3.3k rpm peakes at about 5k and holds flat till 7k.
On friday i ordered the "beauty covers" to clean up the sides of the otr in the engine bay.
http://www.vcmstore.com.au/WebRoot/ecshared01/Shops/vcmperformance/4D64/98D2/ECF7/1367/7AE9/C0A8/D241/B911/1.jpg
also ordered a slightly larger 85mm pulley for the blower, but i might get away with the current 80mm. doesnt seem to be making as much boost now that it's run in, noticed on a quick blast last night the blower made 85kpa (12.3psi) at 4400rpm then started to fade away by 5500 to 78kpa. mind you i was only going 95% throttle due to a fucked front tire needing replacement and didnt want to go too fast incase it blew out on me.
also got another 20ltres of methanol for the water/meth injection on the weekend for some added octane when required :-)
will book in for some dyno time in the next few weeks, i want to get atleast 580rwhp from it with out switching the methonal on.

well it was bound to happen and as it happens the day i planned to take it to the strip to see if it could run a 10. the auto has finally started to call it quits.
on the way to work this morning i noticed that once it was in 6th gear as you tried to accellerate the revs would go up as if the converter had unlocked, i then switched over to manual mode and it was doing the same in 5th gear, tried 4th and it seemed okay.
then on the way home tonight it started doing it in 3rd and 4th at about 50% throttle. pulled over and changed the tune so that the converter stayed unlocked incase it's the converter that is fucked.
gave it some throttle and as you get into it, it would rev up as if hitting neutral, so i'd say she is fucked.
so, now on the hunt for another stockie for the short term and will rebuild this one to hold atleast 600rwhp.
total km's 131,987km;'s.

there was 2 youngish guys there today, well around my age atleast. i rang up this morning and said
"im looking for a 6l80e gearbox"
"what's that?"
"6 speed auto from ve commodore"
"oh, yeah we got 2 of them"
i then asked for model numbers on the box as there are different years, they had a 7cva which is what my current box is and an 8cva (mainly means the year it was made) so i opted for the 8 as it should also have some seal fix that gm had to do to stop shift flaring from 2nd to 3rd.

Hahahah i scored my Super6 engine, g/box and bunch of other shit from them. When i went up to see the engine i bought running the owner John leaned over to give it a rev at the throttle body and his 'Gandalf' style beard came within mm of the supercharger pulley. I grabbed his beard to get it out of the way! Never heard someone say fuck so much!
Tre-Cool was that you at the BYE dyno day almost launch off the dyno? Filthiest car there without a doubt! Hahahahaha. I was the dude moving the dyno fan in front of cars.

while im updating threads figured i should do this one too.
after putting in the new auto last year i took the car to the drags on the 7-12-11 and ran a couple of 11.2's @ 129mph havent been back to the drags with it since as i started a new job and have been away.
http://youtu.be/jldLEhJSqxo
as mentioned in other threads i copped a yellow sticker about a 3 weeks ago for a cracked window & blower, so im in the process of getting the sticker removed and then getting brakes/blower/cam/exhaust etc permitted. for that i have got new extractors/cats & mufflers to quiten the car down el sleeper spec.
all the exhaust parts arrived today but im still waiting on some new dba rotors for the rear as i've had no hand brake working since i did the rear 4 piston brembo upgrade. (who needs a hand brake in an auto?)
have also removed the twin turbo kit from my brother's ve and put my old hh122 on his and he will get my old extractors too.

So Car is now legal with all mods, thanks to dpi engineering approval.
Since then Josh @ Metalcraft has been working on making a new water tank for the blower. Standard has about 500ml's new ones is around 10lt's, and has large enough opening to drop ice into it. :)
http://vyssute.com/downloads/VESS/ve-tank-top.jpg
http://vyssute.com/downloads/VESS/ve-tank-btm.jpg
It's going to be powdercoated black along with an additional water/meth tank Josh is still to make for me.
Also put in an E3 dash
http://vyssute.com/downloads/VESS/ve-dash.jpg
once i get my dyno setup at home, i'll be playing around with the tune to optimise it for the ice setup and see if i can run some 10's on street rubber.

baught e3 dash from ebay. sent to a mate over in sydney, he hacks eeprom, i plug in and all done.
even if you buy a 2nd hand one from a wreck, he can reset the odo to match. i didnt care on mine so started from zero again.

So been a bit of time between updates. So i'll try to summerize the last 12 months.
Raced at the motorplex a few times during previous fifo job, highlights in no particular order or accuracy. (video's on youtube, feel free to look)
Ran 10.6 @ 134+ on 20" street tires
Raced at Racewars, no break downs or problems.
Ran multiple 10.2's on slicks at motorplex
Changed to Id1000 injectors for e85, fuel system no good with pressure dropping off over 5k rpm, so currently re-doing fuel system with a surge tank for more powers on e85.
For this i have removed the regulator from my internal tank module (allready an upgraded one) so now both walbro 255's will feed into an aeromotive filter in -10, then -10 into surge tank in the boot and from there go into twin 044's via -10, from there they pump out in -8 to another aeromotive filter in/out -10 (via y-peice reducer) into a bulkhead connector. from that bulkhead it will feed a -8 line to the fuel rails at the front.
Then to a turbosmart fps1200, return line will go through my flex sensor then back down the factory rail which connects to a y-piece that also has the main feed line to the surge tank.

http://www.vyssute.com/downloads/VESS/VE-Boot-Surge-Lines.jpg
http://www.vyssute.com/downloads/VESS/VE-Tank-module.jpg
Return from surge tank back to main tank module is done via -6 line.
Also finally got matching rear rims for drag slicks that i try'd to order in December last year, They are an alloy 17x9.5" rim for my 28x10" slick and JUST clear my 355mm & 4 piston brembo's.
http://www.vyssute.com/downloads/VESS/VE-Rear-Slicks.jpg
Aim is to run a 9 second pass on the factory 6l80 auto. I know the motor/gearbox will do it if i put it in the stripped out VE im building due to weight advantage but keen to say yeah. i have a 9sec street car. :D

Update to old thread. mainly for historical use.
Car nearly achieved it's 9 second goal, with a 10.009 @ 137mph, before my radiator developed a cracked that night and called an end to my racing. Never took it back before deciding to sell the car and take all the goodies out.
Video of the run.

Car was sold October 2014
