Well when I sold my old KE55 and it left my driveway it left a void that needed to be filled again, I was on the hunt for a neat reliable daily once again and after a few months of looking I ended up with this gemini, I was originally after a KE70 or a TF Gemini but after looking for so long and not seeing much out there, this one came up and was too good to refuse!

Picked this up a few weeks ago as a daily because I was sick and tired of driving the GT to work and getting it filthy from dirty work clothes.

Its a one owner 1979 Gemini, never been in an accident straight as fuck for its age except for a little bit of rust which I will be getting repaired. 230,000 original K's

As soon as I got it home the next day I put some tints on and started trying to find a misfiring issue I had which turned out to be a blocked fuel filter, but in the process I also changed the coil, leads, plugs, rotor, condensor, air filter oil and oil filter also.

It had been resprayed once upon a time and the paint was shit as shit can be. I was going to respray it black, until I sanded it all back and gave it a good polish. The paint came up a lot better than I expected so it will remain this colour until I come up with funds for a rebuild.

Future plans for this car is a Stereo, and fix up the rust, buy some 16 inch wheels, lower the back a bit, take off the ugly side stripe thingo's, and then drive it as my daily until I win the lotto and go bezerk on it.

sanding the roof down with some 1200, then 2000 grit wet and dry. I used 2000 grit on the not so bad areas like doors and boot.

good job on the cut and polish
what exactly did u use to cut and polish it with? what type of buffer?
cheers

First I sanded back with 2000 grit wet and dry spraying soapy water out of a sprayer, keep sanding until it is really smooth. Then washed the whole car and dried it.

I used meguires fine cut and polish #5 comes in a cream bottle. The buffer I used is an orbital one cost me $99 from autopro. Just be very careful on rubbers and in the corners as it will burn the paint very easily (don't ask how I know)

Then used zaino polish and gold class meguires wax to finish it off.

I got my last one from S&S industries in Midvale, they are avaliable in different sizes, very effective

Looks a million $'s after the the polish. Your braver than me, i would have been shitting seeing the paint dulled and marked like that :)

Well finished it all up looks and sounds great. Also managed to take off the gay rubber strips they came off easier than I expected they weren't stuck on too great.

Gave it another cut and polish today as well and really happy with the way it's turned out. Now on the hunt for a dumpy muffler I've blown this one up already  and some multispoke 16" rims probably gonna paint them a fluro colour for something different.

the good old gemini, half the lads i was in highschool with had these as they were the cheap popular car of choice in the late 90's.

Used to see heaps of them about rocking cut springs, offcenter rear diff and "sports" exhaust. the real game ones had a welded diff were always great fun in the wet.

Kudos for all the effort you've put in so far, old girl's come up great. :)
I have some 15x6 dragways that would look cool on it.
what's the pcd on these?

If they're 4x114.3, I've got a set of genuine 15x6" Sigma Turbo wheels that would look MINT on this thing.

Thanks!

They're 4x100. Thanks for the offers but I really don't want to go down the oldschool wheel route as they personally don't do much for me..

^^ They don't actually look too bad but I think I want something bigger.. I got offered a set of 16's or 17's today so I'll see if they are worth it or not we'll see.

Did a bit of rust repairs today and after the effort today I can safely say I never want to be a professional panel beater! Should've probably got it done properly by welding in new metal panels but I thought I'd spray rust converter bog it up then soak inside the doors with fish oil and see how long it lasts..

So much sanding lol!!

Ive always disliked Gemini's, ive worked on a few and they never really impressed me, but fuck me thats a good example mate.

A friend of mine had a TD Gem with a 2.0L engine. Made about 120HP with the twin carbs and cam it had.

DanWA

3" is WAY overkill for a gemini mate

even with a big cam/carb 2.5" would be absolute max

and cannon on a gemini???

Steppo_GT
06-05-2011, 06:35 AM
Yeah I know 3" is too big thats all I could find.. I love the look of a dumpy cannon!
