hi all,
would like to know how hardcore to go with an engine rebuild..... looking at 350kw aka 470hp~.....

obviously need internals beefed up though i was wondering what other things are worthwhile doing.. such as what type of cam, springs etc. should i go out and get new valve guides, sump etc.?

any help appreciated,

thanks,
MikeM

For that sort of HP reliably at the wheels out of an SR20, you'll have to do the burger with the lot..

Pistons, rods, head gasket, and all the head work to support it too...including rocker lockers (if you want to rev it), etc.

You'll also need a big snail, Garrett GT35R or similar, and a decent EMS. Autronic, Motec, or PowerFC or Microtech if you dont want to spend as much.

Dont expect much change out of 30k if you want to do everything PROPERLY.

In your area, you can go to Cypher, X-Speed or NOR you can look at Hyperdrive for that sort of work.

Hope that helps somewhat :)

for the amount to do that i would be looking at chucking the SR and getting RB26. If its for a sil or 180 the engine will fit without too much drama (Like spending $30k+ on an engine build).

hmm rb26det?
how legal is that? like is it hard to get over the pits and insurance etc.
30k sounds a bit daunting i was thinking of 20 max...

wat sorta equipment is that your talking about.... injectors cam etc. i've looked around but i don't know how suitable they would all be togeter in a package, i may just go to hyperdrive or similar and get them to price it all

but i only want parts, wanna build it myself so yeah

Im assuming your talking about 470hp at the engine so something around 380-400 rwhp.To get this sort of figure reliably you would need some forged pistons and decent rods with a metal head gasket, head studs and main studs. Some step 1 type cams would do the job and you could retain the standard springs but i prefer lift over duration for a streeter and would go for some step 2 type cams and uprated valve springs.A bit of a port work would also assist.Hyd lifters can be retained but some rocker stopers is a must.Stuff like valve guides really depends on the condition the head is in and larger sumps, oil coolers etc is only really needed if your doing drift or track work or if your the donut king. Some 740cc injectors would do the job with a decent fuel sysyem and at that sort of hp level any ecu that meets your requirements would do the job including a factory ecu with a z32maf and a remap. Turbo selection is pretty much wide open as there are many off the shelf items capable of flowing 50 plus Lbs/Min.

I just got my engine rebuilt and for the addition rwhp people are chasing, it can cost alot of money!!some times just not worth it.. After 350rwhp the block will need sleeves, that will cost ya 1,500 around abouts. Also high hp figures can be found with just a remap!! umm t4 hybrid works well on mine, u can also drive under boost easy as. Im current pissed off bc I have all the internal work, but intercooler pipes might be too small and i might need bigger exhaust. See how things go this 20th with it getting tuned!!

i take it u have no concept of what it cost to rebuild a 26, and the fact that most of the ones the u buy are ****ed and need a rebuild.

go the sr, i would go to xspeed if sor or hyperdrive if nor, both these places have experence in em, ant runs a 450hp sr in his datto with a gt30r off the side, and hyperdrive run stuwart dickson's sr race car at the 400hp mark (note there is more in it but its a race car hence they want the extreme reliability) this runs a gt35r i think

speak to both these people, and remember, with power, u need to do the clutch, fuel system, and expect gbox not to last if ya going to belt them.

all in all, for a car that is already sr or ca i would go the sr20 the rb26 is just going to cost way to much, esp if u have to rebuilt it.
