If your going to spend that much coin on a point and shoot id suggest looking into a canon 1000D if you could live with a larger body, possibly second hand and will be far superior. Trade off is no video.

That Sony looks like a neat bit of gear.

Have you looked at Panasonic Lumix? I have the TZ7 and used it all throughout Europe, 90% of the photos came out mint but if i rush it or had it on the wrong setting it would bite me in the ass.

The latest version i think is the TZ10 or 20.

Bought a nikkon p.a.s for the missus and it is a POS used twice and went back in the box and went back to using the cybershot. Would rate an Iphone camera over it.

This. I think I saw an ad today in DSE or JB for ~$750ish?

The built-in GPS and Compass are interesting features to say the least, but do you really need them in a camera?

Looks like a nice camera, GPS would come in handy on holidays overseas where you probably will forget where you have taken some photos.

The Sony NEX series is damn good too - check them out as well.

i think the replacement entry level for the 1000D has HD video...saw it in a junk mail mag over the weekend

Trying to stay away from the bigger/dlsr types, too many buttons and things I can fark up on those. Missus is using it too so she wants something she can just pick up and shoot, as well as put in her bag.

Cost isn't much too much of an issue, as long as i get something I want. I don't need the 3d shit, compass or gps, but i like the other features.

Other ones I've seen like this from other brands specs don't really match up in specs, but this is a fairly new camera and the other models i've seen are last years.

Cheers for the input! Those sony Nex ones are pretty nExpensive... kek!

Olympus XZ-1 would be the best compact around imo.

Not cheap though, mid 500's shipped online, but it seriously is better than any other company's offerings at the moment. For point and shoot's its always been a race between Canon, Panasonic(Leica) and Olympus. At the moment the Oly is out in front.
