Has any one else noticed the shift of alot of people in the performace car scene to 4wds over the last couple of years?
I dunno if its just the people i know have been doin the whole cruise thing for so long they are over it or the introduction of draconian hoon laws that has made owning and "enjoying" a modified sports car to risky.
For me its a mixture of both driving a modified car with the constant risk of a yellow sticker or police hassle just got to the point that i was no longer able to enjoy the car.
I now have my 2nd 4wd and am lookin forward to getting away from it all and being able to drive a couple hours into the bush and be able to spin the wheels have fun and not have to worry about police hassle.
The fact that 4wd's are so slow has also done wonders for the points on my lic haha.

Discuss.

I was never going to buy a 4WD, despite the fact that I love off-roading, but when my in-laws got sick, we had to drive them everywhere.

Ended up buying an 05 Prado diesel, and never looked back. I love that we have the freedom to pretty much go everywhere, and we use seven seats regularly.

If I had to buy a Tarago, I probably would have committed suicide - sorry Gav!

current one is and will stay pretty close to stock look. 33's, 3' lift and lockers. my old lux was cop bait tho hahha 6" lift, 33's, heap of spotties and dark tint, custom tray. hence why i no longer own it.

I would rather be stuck on the side of the road than out in the bush..

Last time I went out bush, HR31EVO managed to pop a trans line and so we had to walk 15k's to get home in 35 degree heat with no water or fuck all.

4WD's incur more breakages and higher costs on parts too. But you're right, more people are selling up to get 4x4s. The guy im buying the 33 off is selling it for that reason.

hence why u don't go out by urself

That's going to be 2-3" over legal. 4WD's are the next big target...

Funny how going really slow is more intoxicating than going fast or sideways or whatever tickles the 'performance' scene.

Good to have both, keeps a good balance!

I like the 4WD. Got pulled over yesterday cop just said hello, ask a couple questions and was on his way, no check-over or anything as I was expecting.

I don't think they associate as much hoon based stuff with them so they are a tad more lenient?? Not that I had anything really to pick on, but just seems their attitude is more relaxed instead of, "you drive a performance car, you must be doing burnouts, I'm ticketing you"

x2 For the 4WD, Sorta been keen to get a Patrol/Cruiser for taking it out in the bush. Performance scene always has more stress imo

I've been pulled over more in my brand new stock wrangler than in my 15 year old 'stock' import.

people are sheep. 1 person gets a 4WD, they go do some bush bashing or run over a curb and all their mates are like "zomg i want a 4wd" ... so proceed to buy a 4WD

LOL. I enjoy both. Always have, always will. You can get away with a lot in a 4by. Not as much law in the bush. Usually if you get done in the bush, it's just a move on notice from the rangers or whatever anyway. Not impound, fine, points, jail, blaa blaa, like when mucking around on the street.

It all comes down to attitude, you can tell the performance car 4x4 converts from the 4x4'ers that don't give a toss about peformance cars, or are just not into them at all or have been there done that a long time ago.

Doesn't include everyone, stereotype bla bla blaaaa, but seriously you can tell, especially online going between forums... it comes out in the real world too. If you're a twat, look like a twat or they cops know you then it doesn't matter what you drive in.

Either way, I will never go without a fourby or a quick car in my garage :D

Agreed, i dont even like driving mine in the city or traffic. Its to big and people dont realise that you do need space in it.
Have had people in little hatch backs try and merge into the side of me.

So driving a smaller car would stop pingpingpingpings trying to merge into the side of you

The 121 would probably be better off! hahah

Sucks having to do a 25 point turn due to shit house parking in the private building parking in the city. On the other hand ding a lings that open doors on other peoples cars only damage their own when they smack into side steps :)

Agreed Mike I look at my mates and the majority have traded or still own a performance car and a 4wd ..... Myself I have had an array of 4wds but always had a performance car ... Up until now ... Still turboing fuel guzzler 4.8patrol but I class it as a bit of a perfomance car anyway
