DETAILS

- From about 8:30pm onwards

Eligible cars
> The usual one make stuff from the 'Recommended' arcade car list.
> Some racing with Japanese GT500 cars 630PP* or less and Racing Soft tyres.
- If you don't have a GT500 car in your garage you can choose the Calsonic Nissan GT-R or Castrol Toyota Supra from the arcade list

* You can de-tune your car for online racing by adjusting the Power 'slider' control if your car creeps over 630PP.

> Various Tracks (inc some random generated tracks)
> Driving aids allowed except skid recovery

Driving Standards

Some drivers are obviously faster than others but we're all racing for fun so boost is turned on to keep the pack together.

> Give each other racing room. No other pushing or ramming other cars off the tarmac.
> If you accidentally push or hit a competitor off the track, slow and let them re-pass you to address the situation (apologising via your headset will also help).
> If you deliberately push or hit a competitor off the track, or shortcut any track, turn off your PS3 and sit in a dark room by yourself contemplating what a weak pingpingpingping you are.

Tre-cool (vyssute) has suggested some 550pp SUV racing (on Nurburgring).

Could we have a show of hands of those interested?

Does anybody have any user generated tracks they would like to run?

I'm keen for whatever.

Should be online!

I'd put in a vote for one or two races on the Nur with a pit stop in there somewhere in the night...

I have a user gen- Mt Aso which is.... interesting

However you can pretty much get something similar just by randomly doing it anyway, standard formula seems to be off-camber quick corners, tight right-hander before s/f straight, hills

I do like racing unusual shit like the trucks so PP racing is fine by me

PAGZ

Trucks still happening 2nite?

MGR
31-03-2011, 02:29 PM
The truck race poses a few issues:

- I estimate around half of the drivers tonight won't have a 550pp SUV.
- A five lap race around Nurburgring in those things will take around 40mins.
- Having boost on will eliminate tyre management strategy - but keep the racing close.
- Having boost off will bring back strategy, but most drivers will find themselves lapping on their own for 39 minutes.

In my opinion this isn't the night to run a race like this. It needs more forward planning and a group of dedicated racers. Perhaps organise long distance races with pre-set cars on a Sunday evening?

Nobody is going to want to hang around waiting for the next race in 40 minutes if they don't have a 550pp SUV. The reason why we can run 'bring-your-own' GT500 races is because there are two cars to choose from in the arcade list if you don't already have one in your personal garage.

We'll use your track sometime early in the night once we have a few drivers logged in. Rather than sharing/downloading etc I'll just get you to select the track when we're going to run it.

It seems to me that user generated tracks can be made more complex than the random generated tracks online.

At the end of the day its a race, if people cant keep up the pace then its not really anybodys fault? This gives more of a reason for people to be cautious of others and focus more on there own driving rather than punting etc

There are several for sale in the online yard at the moment, 150k will get you a car more than capable to participate in the race.

On another note for people who don't have a SUV and lack the funds to make one, i have a spare Ford Lightning with 650hp that im willing to gift

Tre-Cool
31-03-2011, 03:26 PM
yeah, suv's are cheap to buy and then mod. if people are playing the game enough to be any good online im sure there sitting on atleast 300k in cash.

I have far too many cars as it is and have 15 million to spare. if need be i will build a car and gift it aswell.

im no pro, but i managed a 7:10 with my SSR last night and taking it easy/safe was running consistant 7:30's.

Well if you guys are keen I think it should be done as the first or last race of the night.

I can start the room earlier at 7:45pm for an 8:00pm start for the truck race?

By the time it finishes the regulars should be jumping online for the normal stuff.

Probably keen for tonight. Not interested in the truck race though. If it is happening while I am on, I will just find something else to do for that time.

Is there any way you can filter your garage to only have GT500 cars to choose from? I have no idea what GT500 cars are in my garage.

Sorry in advance for my average driving. Been a while since I've turned GT5 on.

Sorry Brockas. I didn't see your PSN message until we'd finished.

Although my PS3 was hosting for a while I jumped out after the second race (Rome) because I had my game set to 3D mode. Worked well at Nurb truck race but framerate suffered once I got in the confined spaces of Rome with ~15 cars. So SV304's PS3 took over hosting.

One thing you can do (which I'll now add to the connection troubleshooting FAQ) is Clear GT5's network cache.

Got to:
OPTIONS
scroll down to:
NETWORK
and select:
CLEAR SYSTEM CACHE

http://i.imgur.com/LhN6R.jpg

Overblown / corrupt cache is suspected to cause connection issues.

Would be good practice to clear it before racing online each week in my opinion.

Your car was glitching like fuck all over the place in the Audi R8 / Rome race. Caused all sorts or carnage. Munt's connection while not the best seemed to be quite playable.

Are you running wireless from PS3 to your Vivid Modem/Router?
What kind of upload/download speeds can you get on your PS3? (Got the Network settings in your PS3 menu and run a connection test).
What sort of speed and ping to you get running a speedtest from your PC? (http://speedtest.net/)

I was all set for this but had to download fucking update after update so by the time i got online it was 10:30

Yep, they're a pain in the ass but the game is so much better with them. Most developers don't provide post-release support anywhere near as good as Polyphony Digital.

Is the prize money and XP always so pitiful in on line racing?

It's not great but you get more xp and money for doing more laps and finishing higher. I don't think you would have banked much cash for winning the Fiat 500 hill climb. Racing offline is boring anyway.

its hard not to run into each other with the boost set on high. what bluetooth headsets is everyone using?

I'm using the official PS3 headset but there's a newer model released overseas which is lighter and more comfortable. You can buy them online for about $50.

Yeah, from PS3 to VividWireless 'Home Gateway Device'.

Checked the Network Settings right after I got disconnected the last time - download speed was just shy of 1000Kbps and upload was around the 3-400Kbps mark from memory.

Earlier on in the day (or was it the day before?) I did the random4000x4000.jpg 'speedtest' from another thread and could only manage 56KB/s.

Just did the speedtest you linked to then; consistent 67-68ms ping and ~5Mbps download but upload varied from 0.09 to 0.20Mbps.

I thought the prize money was a lot higher on GT5 Prologue. Might just be my bad memory though.

Didn't expect much out of the Fiat 500 race. Was highly amusing though, especially hitting some of the other cars head on when I was finishing the lap.

Can't remember which cars we were driving (might have been the Fiat 500s or the race before) but on that hillclimb track I remember seeing one car go FLYING on the left of my car as we were heading up that first hill.

Tre-Cool
01-04-2011, 06:16 PM
if a race is getting serious i calm down on the bumps and shit, but sometimes when your trying to out brake others into the corners it might look intentional.

though i think most of the time if i can get up the inside and take your line and block you from coming onto the track. i'll take it. :-p

i also race from the front cam, so perhaps with the different cars it makes it hard to judge where the front end of the car is and thus unintential punting may occur.

now... last night i was getting punted hard into the braking area's on a few tracks, so i just return the antics. at fuji it was nearly every fucking corner. (looks at gtp alex)

while it's annoying, i can live with it, coz it often results in some funny shit.

perhaps from now on we have limited boost on?

I also have the PS3 headset (not the newer one), is there a way to stop the noise of the game being picked up by it? it's worst when just in the lobby, so I just have it on mute unless I need to say something in the lobby, kinda annoying when you crap on about something...then forget mute is on.

Quick question, would it affect the connection if I have 2-3 PS3's in my house all connected to the network at the same time? The other two were simply connected and signed in, but not racing online or anything.

April fools post?

You don't out-brake anybody. You just throw the car full throttle into corners, drive across the grass and shove other cars off the track. Watch the replay below; your braking telemetry to the left of the tacho suggests you don't bother trying to brake at all and just rely on the car in front (that has bothered to brake) to slow you down to make the corner.

If you have UPnP enabled on your router and your PS3s then everything should work sweet, even without port forwarding.

Problem is UPnP doesn't always work 100% between the PS3 and different routers. That's why you port forward to explicitly tell the router which ports the Playstation Network will be using and where they have to connect to in your home (the PS3's static IP).

If it's not too much trouble though, I'd sign the other PS3s in your house out of the Playstation Network while you play on Thursdays. Whether or not they are causing connection issues is debatable, but they certainly won't help.

Lolllll so much love Butcher!

End of the day, though, it is just a game; no need to get knickers in a knot (though that is some pretty fucking poor driving). Laugh it off, finish the race, have a bat, go to sleep.

nurburgring is a different story. ppl were smashing everyone around.

that footage on the straight is prime example of me getting spun around from behind on the 1st lap.

I deliberately spun you there because hey the opportunity for revenge was too good to ignore :)

Sure it was funny as fuck but it would be nice to have some good clean racing sometimes - theres a difference between rubbin' and punting...

MGR have we tried boost low/off and damage?

Brockas the only way i found to guarantee PS3 connectivity in all games was to just put it in the DMZ of the router so you dont have to fuck around with ports. Not sure how that works if you have more than one though..

Tried them all.

The downside is that if someone does get punted off, they're now at a massive disadvantage and essentially fucked for the entire race because of someone else's poor driving.

I personally like boost on.

Even if it's not true racing, it's more entertaining and results in more fun being had.

As has been said, without it you end up raging at other people and getting really pissed off because someone elses shitty driving has ruined your race, and it's no longer fun.

+1. Even more annoying when it is a "racing incident". We aren't playing for sheep stations.

theres no way boost off would work in that climate, the serious racers online where they boot for shit driving are great for no boost, but if you are just having a bit of fun then thats all it will ever be.

i miss the online races with you guys, i will never forgive manna for some of the treatment i recieved and will take it to my grave if i dont get another shot at revenge.

i will be back on gt5 over the uni break provided i get my wheel back from the logitech site.

having boost turned on makes it too easy, wont be any qualms from me if turn it off or down in the future.

I didn't realise having boost turned on disabled your brake pedal?

Boost off doesn't fix the issue. Damage on full might help, but none of this is even necessary if people race properly.

end of the day it's still an arcade game.

i punt, nudge, spin the AI players in career mode alot worse than what i play online.

i think the nurb track takes on the worst from everyone because it's so long and so easy to get away with punt maneuvers because even if your in last place you know you can catch up to the front of the pack reasonably quickly and get "revenge".

The last corner of the nurb is just piss funny, coz up until recently no one would brake for it.

Overall though the night was pretty good and there was plenty of hard fought and clean victories on multiple tracks.
